Dee, at the front door want to let you take a peek to see if the bands were in this case the drag show for princes birthdays complete trash something worth spending 30 bucks on. It looked dead as fuck and she would not let us take a Peel inside, so we decided to head cross the street someplace that would allow us to take a look inside and spend good money someplace deserving.

If you know how to dance this is not the place for you. This place is for posing and really bland. Music with the same beat over and over again. No creativity. This is really an S&M place: Stand and Model !. Completely boring and on top of that $ 20 cover. It’s a rip off !

Went to Sex and the City Live at the Oasis. Hilarious! Laughed so much. Great venue. Not huge. Every seat is good. The performers are excellent and even took pictures after the show.

Very nice indeed! We’d planned a Happy Hour for our LGTB employee group here at Oasis and being German I was obviously über-punctual: the place was empty except for bartender Christiano who welcomed me with a warm smile. If you’ve ever been in a bar by yourself, you probably know that it’s not the most desirable situation: either you’ve been stood up or you don’t have any friends. Well, at that point I couldn’t rule out either one of these factors, but Christiano was a true star and offered me a free drink for being the first one. We then chatted about all sorts of things: gay dating apps being one of the topics. I was almost disappointment when my fellow gay colleagues finally showed up… Oasis is a bar/show: while I was sitting at the bar I saw them prepping for a Drag Rock Musical in the next room. I like Oasis for not being a pretentious and all pretty place: it’s a down-to-earth bar for real people. And I surely want to come back one of these days to attend one of their shows.

I came here for Sunday Mass. The party is cute but seriously lacks diversity, the crowd basically consists of those burner white gays who are very clique-ish and lack substance. Like they have already taken over the Castro and now they’re all over SoMa which is rather unfortunate. Great. Don’t get me wrong, SM was real cute until the part where my friends got kicked out for chillin’ on the bean bags and«sleeping». Uh hello isn’t that what the art installation was for?! Nobody was actually sleeping and security goes like«you can walk out or get forced out». Tbh in the Castro at least nobody gets kicked out of badlands. Also the $ 10 cover? Did I mention the drinks were overpriced at like 20+? Deuces~

I am sure this place is fun. I always liked TShack at the Stud. My friend was visiting from out of town. We got there a bit early for Mother. It started raining and doorman said he was«holding the doors» and refused to let us in, then proceeded give entry to two other people who breezed up. So was he being mean or just poorly trained? Don’t know don’t care. We left. Plenty of other choices in this town that don’t offer up rudeness at the door.

I love the shows and atmosphere but must criticize this place for my most recent visit when a show(Trixie Mattel — $ 10 per ticket) got completely reduced to one small performance without meet and greet. The ticket suggested there would be multiple performances with a meet and greet. The club should’ve given the audience some type of credit or refund… shit, at least a free drink at the bar. But with that said, I def plan to come back and see the amazing SF drag. :)

A first time at Oasis!!! Loved it! We saw BenDeLaCreme’s Cosmos and it was 100% FABULOUS!!! The theatre was comfortable, sound was great, lighting good, all around a super pleasant surprise. «Table service» was prompt, pleasant and the drinks were great! A very good Tito’s martini – another pleasant surprise! Cosmos was absolutely fabulous. What a superb performance. So many laughs. Creative with a capital C and super well executed. The multimedia approach was great! 4 Thumbs way up! 4 Gold stars! And a super fun and enjoyable SNAPSNAPSNAP!!!

FUN! FUN! FUN!!! This is such an awesome, super fun drag bar! And my favorite part, the crowd is totally mixed! Str8, Gay, Dressed up, dressed down, and all friendly! We went for one of the special event nights, and it was fantastic! When it got too hot, we headed up to the outdoor rooftop deck.(something very rare in SF!) You have my word, if I am in SF, I will be heading to Oasis for some fun!

I tend to gravitate toward gay bars that have a sense of community, and Oasis has this in spades. Co-owners Heklina and D’Arcy not only put on dazzling shows; They spend hours in the bar mingling with customers, serving us drinks, and making us feel — or at least me – like I’m hobnobbing with local drag luminaries. On that note, too: can’t say I’m the biggest fan of a lot of drag today. Throwing dollar bills at queens while they lip sync in sequin dresses gets monotonous. That’s where Oasis stands out, putting on iconic cabaret shows that focus on campy dialogue and banter, like Sex and the City, Shit & Champagne and its follow-up, Champagne White and the Temple of Poon. And yes, these are seated shows, unlike its well-known weekly revue«Mother» aka«Trannyshack,» which is standing. Bartenders know what’s up and care about the quality of their drinks. Worth noting that this isn’t Castro; drink prices are about what you’d expect in SoMA, which ain’t that cheap. But they do take credit cards($ 20 minimum) and host a $ 10 rooftop beer bust(plus additional $$ for BBQ, om nom) that’s among the best deals I’ve heard in the city. SF Eagle — also a great bar — does $ 12 for all you can drink beer and BBQ, but the beer is only bud light. Bathroom is a long dungeon that’s co-ed and has multiple toilets with doors — real ones, not stalls — that lock. «You could totally have sex in there!» my friends tell me. Uh. Yes. I hope that’s at least a little bit the point? You can’t beat the privacy though, and I’ve never had to wait in line. Can’t end the review without mentioning the event that got me hooked on the bar, Sexitude, a monthly evening dance party where you’re taught basically the the gayest routines on the planet while pausing for tequila shot breaks. This class has various forms twice a week in the daytime in San Francisco, but the Oasis evening Sexitude has been one of my top favorite activities in more than four years I’ve lived in this city.

Went to Oasis to see Lady Bunny who did not disappoint, however I cannot say the same for the venue itself. My boyfriend left his debit card with the bartender after purchasing a round for the two of us. He purchased another round from a different bartender who told him that they couldn’t find his card, but to come back later and close out after the show had ended. After the show we both went up to the original bartender and my boyfriend asked him to close out his tab, when the bartender snapped at us saying«I don’t have your card». He quickly proceeded to ignore his request and asked me if I would like a drink when I replied«Im with him.» After that it was clear he was irritated by us and his attitude quickly escalated saying that he didn’t have the card and that my boyfriends name wasn’t in their system. On that note we decided to leave, and perhaps came to the conclusion that somehow his card had been misplaced and could have been lost/stolen during the show. As we were walking to the exit, we were forcefully asked to leave by security saying that the bartender had a drink thrown at him by my boyfriend. Which, just for the record, never happened. I was shocked that a business would treat someone that way for simply asking for their own belongings back, and how the whole situation had turned into big mess. I won’t go back based off of how terrible their customer service was and how mistreated we were that night.

Had a decent night with Lady Bunny and Heklina, but was left soured when a friend was mistreated by staff. He left his debit card at the bar to keep a tab open, but when he went to try to close his tab, twice he was told they didn’t have his card. The second person who he spoke to took everything unbelievably personally even though my friend was patient, understanding and clearly embarrassed. Instead of even bothering to ask any of the other bar staff to help solve the problem, he threw a ton of shitty attitude at us, and the second we had turned our backs he informed security that a «Robert» — not my friend’s name — had thrown a drink at the bartender, and we were thrown out!(Not that it mattered, we were leaving anyway.) The entire situation was ridiculous. My friend just wanted to get his card back and close his tab, and instead he was left humiliated and having to cancel his debit card, with zero sympathy from the staff or any effort to solve the problem on their end. Not a terrible venue but I won’t be back. There is no reason to go here and put your personal belongings at risk with a staff who couldn’t give less of a shit.

Stand back! Stand back! In the middle of my room I did not hear from you It’s alright, it’s alright To be standing in a line (Standing in a line) To be standing in a line I would cry… I was scratching my head wondering why Oasis was listed among the hot new businesses in San Francisco on Unilocal. After all, I came here when I was a wee lad back sometime in the last century when we danced on the plexiglass floor that covered the indoor swimming pool. I remember how cool it was when the roof opened up. I forget what decade it was but platforms may have been involved and perhaps some royal blue polyester. After all, I was an Asian. Still am but that’s when I had an image to maintain. I’m not sure what that image was except maybe weird Asian guy wearing polyester and platforms. Even though I’ve lived just a few blocks away for years now, I had no idea it had closed and reopened with frequency as my clubbing days are but a distant memory now. Or so I thought when Jamie W. suggested we catch an almost-midnight Mother show, a tribute to Stevie Nicks. I was hesitant since I didn’t view Stevie so much as a drag icon like Cher or Barbra, but for $ 10, the risk was quite minimal. I had no idea Mother is the latest incarnation of Trannyshack who have given me fits of giggles on YouTube with drag versions of classic TV moments like the Barbra/Judy duet, «Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again». Brilliant stuff. Anyway, we waited patiently under the disco kleig lights(photo: ) for the show to begin, while hipsters both young and aging were decked out in their best White Witch regalia. The curtain was finally raised to spotlight Heklina, one of the club’s impresarios dressed in a Stevie-curled blonde wig and flowing white, lip-syncing to «If Anyone Falls» as barely dressed dancers pranced around him(photo: ). He was a hilarious emcee who described his talent succinctly: «I come out, I twirl, I walk back and sit down.» Heklina even recalled the treadmill Stevie walked on, the one with the Christmas lights during the«Stand Back» video, a kitschy MTV-generation moment, and I think I was the only one in the club who recalled it. The performers were really into their interpretations of Stevie’s songbook, that’s for sure, with my favorite likely«Stand Back» choreographed as the high school prom finale in «Carrie»(photo: ). Ever since Marlena’s closed in Hayes Valley, it’s been downright difficult to find a good-spirited drag show in this city, and I don’t count Asia SF where the men are frankly too pretty. Heklina and company are more my idea of what classic drag performers are about: funny, observant and totally into their queenly tributes. The show went well past 2AM, and frankly I’m usually fast asleep on the sofa with the TV on something predictable like CreateTV or maybe even MeTV during a Mary Tyler Moore rerun marathon. But for entertainment as good as this, I’m willing to take a grandfatherly nap in the afternoon because… I need a little sympathy Well, I need a little sympathy Well, I need to be standing in Stand back! Well, I need to be standing in Stand back! Well, I need to be standing in Stand back! Take me home Take me home Stand back! Don’t you take me hooooome… Ah hell, here’s the video:

After years of bringing oodles of awesome drag performances to San Francisco, Heklina and D’Arcy Drollinger have banded together to open up a new drag/cabaret/performance venue called SF Oasis! At a time when drag and gay bars are closing at a painfully rapid rate around San Francisco(farewell, Esta Noche, adiós, Lex!), a lot of us in the community were BEYOND thrilled to hear that these two grand empresses of the queen community were opening something new, something that would offer a permanent home to San Francisco’s drag community! They just opened on New Year’s Eve, and I just went for the first time the other night for Trixie Carr’s MANEATER: A Tribute To Hall & Oates… and it was EPIC!!! Trixie Carr, for those who haven’t had the pleasure of seeing her perform before, is a faux queen(as in, she’s female, and also dresses up in drag as a drag queen). She’s been part of Heklina’s old-time Trannyshack crew and part of other shows, such as Heklina’s «Sex and the City» run. What I hadn’t realized is that she’s an extraordinary singer, too… I’d put her on par with the pipes of Lady Gaga! When I arrived, I had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be a concert, with a band and queen and faux-queen back-up singers. Trixie is an electric performer, fascinating and completely enthralling, and the show felt very intimate. The audience was very enthusiastic, and was full of familiar faces, lots of friends and fans alike who are all really anxious to see this experiment of a new club succeed… and if this show was any indicator, yes, this club is and will be a huge success! The club itself is large, has two main rooms, and is WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, with the exception of the bar in the back, larger performance room, which is up one step… but that’s okay, because there are cocktail servers to get you your drink(an out-of-drag Heklina was my cocktail server for the evening! How divine :)). The woman who took my cover went out of her way to make sure that I was seated in a comfortable spot with good visibility of the stage — it’s little details like that that mean so much to me! The space is big, the acoustics are good, the stage is fantastic, and the sound system sounded great, not garbly or distorted, like so many other venues. I ordered a Malibu & pineapple with a splash of grenadine(a «Tahitian Kiss», Dahling!), but was informed they didn’t have Malibu… oh, well, nothing’s perfect, and they did have spiced rum, which will do in a pinch! Otherwise, both of my drinks were hefty in size and perfectly balanced and delicious… and at $ 8 for a specialty cocktail, so much cheaper than so many of the other newer restaurants and bars popping up in San Francisco! I really didn’t know what to expect when I came to SF Oasis, because as someone who uses a mobility device, I always worry about accessibility, difficulty maneuvering crowds, and possible attitude from staff who see a wheelchair or motorized scooter as an annoyance… but that was the antithesis of my experience at SF Oasis! They were VERY accommodating of wheelchairs, and that fact alone makes me love them! But add to that a great show, an appreciative staff/performers, great drinks at a reasonable price, and a nice-looking venue, and I have to say, this is probably my new favorite club in San Francisco! I’ll definitely be back, probably to check out the rebirth of Trannyshack as the new weekly show«Mother»!! I highly recommend this new drag club and wish it great success!!!

Oasis I think I love you but I want to know for sure. So I’m going to have come here again and again and bring my friends just to make sure you are as charming and as friendly as I think you are. The décor reminds me of an old underground basement club with glitter thrown on it. There are two bars, a performance stage in the main space, a semi-private lounge with mirrors galore and a front lounge with furniture designed to make you feel Lilliputian. The sound was good for both the DJ and the drag performers. The space is wheelchair accessible but the floor are natural stone and uneven. The bathrooms are non-gendered and close room single stall with a row of sinks outside them. Even though I am so not a club person I look forward to coming here for the show and the chill spaces.
