New Looks Salon

I was looking for someone who was going to be brave enough to cut my coarse Asian hair into a pixie cut. Cammy listened my ideas, explained a few possibilities to me, and I got a efficient, tidy little cut that still works out three weeks later. I’ve gotten lots of compliments, and I’m got nothing to complain about for 12 bucks. It’s a very small salon that opens at 1045 on a Saturday. Nervous Dog Café across the street makes a good cup of joe for my ride, too.

I agree that New Looks Salon is amazing. I can’t believe that anybody would spend 5, 6 or 7 times as much for a hair cut that is not any better or more stylish. Maybe some people feel that they need to go to a trendy salon with an architect-​designed interior. Not me. Cammy is wonderful.

I have thick, coarse Asian hair. It is the worst. I have gone to many expensive salons only to come out with the hated helmet hair cut. I cut my own hair for a long time until Tom, my then new boyfriend, recommended that I go to his barber. I went not expecting much, but for $ 10 (yes, $ 10!) what did I have to lose? I came out with the cutest, light haircut that actually moved! Cammy at New Looks Salon in the Mission (across the street from the Nervous Dog café on Mission Street, near 30^th Street) has been cutting, coloring and highlighting my hair and my friend’s hair for the past four years. You don’t need an appointment, although I make one if I want color. It is not a fancy salon (big understatement), so don’t be put off by the décor. However, Cammy is a down to earth lady who listens really well but can also make flattering suggestions. I leave it up to her. She is also wonderful and warm when you get to know her. This place is the best kept secret in San Francisco.

I got a good, clean haircut for a good price at New Looks Salon. It’s great for guys who don’t know what they exactly want because the people here can recommend something and it turns out looking great. It’s a convenient place to stop by since the neighborhood is very lively with lots of shops and restaurants to go before or after your haircut.
