Just have to say, so sad that this restaurant closed. We had an amazing evening with about 7 of us our first weekend visiting San Francisco just a few months before we actually moved here. The food was fantastic! Their scotch selection was amazing and their wine selection was just as impressive. This evening we went was their next to last evening being open and we were all so disappointed to hear we would have to keep looking for our next«everyone let’s get together» spot. The open kitchen is really fun to watch as well. But I cannot say enough good things about the service, the team that worked there and the fun vibe they created for us all. Sorry to see you go Georges!

Got a reservation here for Valentine’s day and was a little annoyed that only a special prix fixe menu was available that night. After finishing the meal, however, i was very glad that we got to taste everything on that menu. — Scallops(4⁄5) — well cooked and flavorful, with a unique sauce — Foie gras mousse(5⁄5) — great balance of salt, sweetness, and richness. — Short rib(5⁄5) — a perfect block of beefy, fatty goodness covered in a great sauce — Dessert(4⁄5) Overall, the food was fantastic, although i think only the scallops are on their regular menu.

Small space and service is good. Polenta calamari is delicate and not oily. Ono ceviche was pretty good. Spaghetti with albacore tuna meatballs was too spicy. Molten lava cake was over cooked. Probably will not come back.

Georges is a great option for lunch with coworkers. I came here with my boss one afternoon. The décor is modern and the dining area was very bright. It was quiet that afternoon but I hear it can get pretty crowded for lunch. The oysters were definitely the highlight of the meal. They were extremely fresh and served very cold, and the waitress was very knowledgable about the different kinds that were being served that day. I got the fish and chips and my boss got the fish tacos. I thought my dish was good, but a bit of a disappointment following the oysters. Overall, no complaints here! Service was great, and the ambiance is nice. Will be sure to come again with coworkers or friends for lunch!

By George, I wasn’t a fan. Kudos to them for making a way for my last minute reservation though. That was at least worth a star right there. I called on a weeknight, and at first I didn’t think that they were going to be able to get the two of us in. But the nice gentleman who took my reservation when I called said that since I was within walking distance and was leaving my financial district hotel right away, that they would be able to squeeze us in… basically. This was my second dining experience in San Fran and it was actually a bit better than the first. I was in the mood for fish tacos, and I that was what I had planned out. I was sooo disappointed to learn that the fish tacos are only on the lunch menu. I seriously thought about putting the menu down and walking back out, but that would’ve been a bit tacky, wouldn’t it? Nothing on the dinner menu really appealed to me, but I finally decided on the Tortellini En Brodo Grilled Chicken and Mushroom Tortellini, Consommé, Truffle Oil. Pea Shoots. I like mushrooms, but this was literally one of the worst things that I’ve ever eaten. The grilled chicken was more of a like ground chicken inside of the tortellinis. I literally thought that it was beef, that’s how far it tasted from grilled chicken. It was the first time that I’d ever eaten pea shoots… I told you that I was sheltered. The vibe seemed right, so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Would I go back? No, nothing on the menu appealed to me… except for the LUNCHONLY fish tacos, of course.

I spy with my little(not so little) eye… Georges, a tidy modern décor with a relaxing ambiance is where you want to get your grub on. Georges, complimentary wine by the glass is a good beginning. Georges, carrying local seasonal produce, naturally raised meats, and sustainable fish and shellfish is the way to go. Georges, the fennel pollen panna cotta is amazing. I like you Georges. I really like what you are doing Georges. Keep making those fantastic albacore tuna and golden trout. I am sure you will be seeing me shortly… I hope you give this wonderful place a try. Cheers!

Had a pretty good lunch here with a colleague. For the price, I was expecting more. Service was only so-so and food wasn’t amazing. I had the pizza of the day(Brussels and prosciutto) and it was just OK. My colleague had the fish tacos which looked good but portion seemed small and it didn’t have any accompaniments. There are some other nice places for business lunches that I prefer in the area.

This place is really unassuming but delicious. I needed a place to have dinner on a recent business trip to SF and found this place on Open Table. Since it’s in the Financial District, it wasn’t super busy by the time I got there because the after work crowd had already dissipated. I sat at the bar by myself and ordered the wine of the day(some kind of white wine, not sure which, but it was delicious). For my meal, I decided to go with the line caught Hawaiian ono ceviche, which was outstanding. I’m a big fan of ceviche so it’s hard for me to pass it by on the menu. The avocado and citrus were delicious together with the fish and it was a very generous portion. I also had their special, which involved pork belly. So my meal wasn’t the healthiest but it was excellent. The staff was really friendly and attentive. If you need a place to eat near Embarcadero, consider Georges!

I enjoyed my meal and the experience of George’s in the financial district of San Francisco. My drawback was the wait time and the pretentious attitudes of the people who felt the need to share their lives to the restaurant. I made a reservation for 730 but wasn’t sat until 755 and even though there was a table open the whole time I had to wait. My dinner was great, boneless sparerib, I enjoyed the freshly made lemonade as well. The bartender made the visit better by being vigilant with my food and drink needs. 4.5* is what I would give if I could.

Did you ever have spaghetti and meatballs in a seafood restaurant? Well, it’s an experience at George’s on Sansome St. In San Francisco. The spaghetti is made with mint, the«meatballs» are albacore tuna all in a spicy tomato sauce! Sounds a little weird, right? But, it was very good! We were looking for a place to eat near Embacadero and fortunately found George’s. If you like spicy sauce, spaghetti and«meatballs and are a bit adventurous, give it a try you won’t be disappointed! BTW, it’s also very quet at 4pm on a Monday… which was nice…

I cannot recommend this restaurant, at least to young clients or if you value prompt service. We came into the restaurant, got our pre-booked table immediately and ordered two cocktails and main courses(+ some wines to go with the mains). The main courses took 20 minutes to arrive, the cocktails took 25 minutes. We asked for our cocktails twice during that time. Faced with the choice of either having our cocktails or wines get warm or our mains getting cold, we chose to drop the wines. Once we had finished our mains, it took 15 minutes and two waves for the waiters to spot us despite our table being right next to the bar. Needless to say, we didn’t order dessert. The strange part is that a group of ladies(30+ years older than us with multiple Vuitton bags each) sat next to us a bit before our mains arrived(that is, 10+ minutes before we got our cocktails we ordered 15 minutes ago) and were served their aperitifs immediately. The food was good, the cocktails averaged at «decent». The other one had too much alcohol peeking out of it, the other was good. The atmosphere is noisy — be prepared for that. The waiter and my wife had trouble hearing me(I do have a soft voice, but I usually get heard). Also note that the menu at Opentable is an old one and doesn’t reflect the current one. Addendum: we’re a ~30-year-old married couple who dress neatly and dine regularly at good restaurants. Does this count or why was our service this bad?

Got the cioppino today. It was nice to see the crab claws and lots of shellfish. It was perfectly spicy and delicious. But there was way too much oil in the broth(see pic) and the garlic bread should be renamed bricks. You can break a tooth on that stuff!

The first time I went was a 3, the second time was a 5. Had the trout the first time, and it just wasn’t super memorable, along with the other things we are — didn’t leave the strongest impression but was solid seafood. However, the second time really brought its game. Weekender cocktail was tasty, Rock Hollow glass of sauvignon blanc was standard. Had 1 of each of the 3 oysters they were offering that day(the shigoku = bomb! can’t wait to try the shooter next time), and it was a great mix. The scallops were incredible, I cleaned my plate — the lobster butter sauce was decadent but not too heavy. I would get this again. The service and atmosphere was pleasant all around, not overbearing or trying too hard. Will make a point to return.

Made reservations on Open Table 30 minutes before arriving on a Friday night. We missed the front door because even though we saw the sign we assumed that a nice restaurant couldn’t actually share the same entryway as a nail saloon. First, the ambiance wasn’t the best because the space wasn’t very well thought out. There’s a table right at the front door that I would have hated to sit at because everybody coming in would stand over your food. The tables and chairs they chose wouldn’t allow me to scoot my chair all the way up to the table so my boyfriend and I slouched throughout dinner. They played 80s music quite loud so I took a trip down memory lane and hummed along rather than engage in conversation. Also, in front of the bathrooms what appeared to be unused furniture, old files, and clutter was hanging out. I wanted to clean! The service and food made up for the disappointing ambiance, which saved me from my first impressions. Our server encouraged us to taste the wines to help us make our choices. We ordered the small bowl of fish bouillabaisse and fried calamari. The bouillabaisse was rich and delicious. The calamari was filling. For dinner we had the ahi tuna and the scallops. Both were richer than I had expected. The ahi had a fried falafel pancake and a Greek yogurt sauce and the scallops had a filling polenta that covered inch of the plate surface. All expertly cooked. The desert impressed my boyfriend the most; a fennel panna cotta that was refreshing instead of heavy. Recommended. Overall, the food was great. I wish the actually restaurant space was cleaner and thought out a little more for me to want to spend good money here. Unless, it’s another Friday night and we are looking for a nice dinner before a movie at the Embarcadero.

What a nice clean decent size restaurant. It’s not a huge place but fit a nice amount of tables for big or small groups. It wasn’t too pack when we went during lunch on a weekday. I would assume it would be since lots of people in the financial district are out for lunch but maybe because we went around 1pm? For appetizers, we ordered Line Caught Hawaiian Ono Ceviche and Crudo of Albacore Tuna(contains five pieces). The tuna was so yummy, super tasty, one word perfect. The ceviche was ok, for some reason it makes my mouth get this feeling of dryness. For entrée 3 of us ordered a Wild King Salmon Salad, 1 ordered Fenugreek Spiced Albacore Tuna and 1 ordered Achiote Marinated Fish Tacos. They were all looked good. I feel like the fish tacos may not be as filling since there’s only two. I was informed the Albacore Tuna that had the Crispy Garbanzo Pancake was a tad too salty but it was still good. Everything about the salmon salad was just good. It wasn’t dry or under cooked. The avocado and the vegetable looked and tasted very fresh and clean. Really nothing to complain about this dish. I would love to order it again.

$ 66 plus tip for happy hour between 2 people. We ordered a dozen oysters, 2 glasses of wine and calamari. Looking back at the bill, only the oysters were priced at the HH rate, which was still expensive All in all, I felt the price was a bit steep. For $ 66 I expect to leave not hungry. I’m caught between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. If I didn’t pick up the bill, 4 stars easily.

I had pretty high expectations for this place given all the high ratings. I had browsed the menu beforehand and was really excited to try out their oysters and scallops. Too bad I decided to come here on Valentines day. They had a pleasant surprise waiting for us when we sat down to see the $ 85 prie fixe menu they laid down in front of us. «Excuse me, do you have your regular dinner menu?» «No sorry, we only have our Valentines Day dinner menu today.» Well shit, I wish they had been more clear about that when I made the reservation. At the very least I wish they were more flexible about having some of their regular menu options. I was expecting to pay $ 50 a person and instead had no choice but to pay double that. We decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot since by that point we were already sitting down and it was 9pm already. The food ended up being pretty good, but I couldn’t help but think«Man…I could be having a Michelin rated dinner for the amount we’re paying.» They served us some kind of fish that was specifically caught while traveling upstream in Alaska(I think?) on it’s way to breed and eventually lay its eggs(perfect for Valentine’s day right?). Cool story bro. It was pretty bland. The saving grace and the only reason I’m giving this place two stars was the duck breast. One of the most tender pieces of meat I’ve ever had in my life. Beautifully medium. Fucking amazing. I really want to give this place another shot and try out their regular dinner menu, but after this experience I don’t think I’ll be going again since there are so many other great seafood options in SF.

We were in town on a weekend for a conference and wanted to get some delicious seafood. I’d found a couple of places through Unilocal, but most were already fully booked. Lucky for us, my coworker did some wheeling and dealing on the phone to get us in on a busy Saturday night. We got there relatively early to get in, and found a space directly in front of the restaurant(who drives in SF? tourists visiting from Atlanta…). 5 adults and 1 toddler were squeezed into a small booth/banquette in the front corner, but the tight fit was the only uncomfortable thing about the whole evening. While the others shared oysters, I had the octopus bolognese over fresh saffron pasta. If you hadn’t told me that it was octopus, I probably wouldn’t have guessed, and I loved it — rich flavor with slightly more texture than a beef bolognese. For my main, I had the vadouvan scallops(with parsnip purée, pomegranate, guanciale, and persillade). The bacon and pomegranate added nice flavor to the creamy parsnip purée, but the scallops were slightly overcooked. Having searched through the photos, I knew to save a little stomach space for the doughnuts with chocolate sauce, also known as Citrus Semolina Zeppole with gianduia ganache. The zeppole were light and fluffy, slightly sweet in flavor, nicely balanced by the salt in the chocolate sauce. Service was friendly and mostly attentive. Kitchen was open so you could be entertained during dinner. Food was fresh and tasty. I recommend.

By George, I think I like it. I really think I like it. It all started with a drink … as it so often does. My mother nursing a glass of wine. An Orange Crush Cocktail for my fair lady. A concoction called Brother Bill for me. Bill S., my brother, would be proud: Templeton Rye Whiskey, Amaro CioCiaro 60-proof Liqueur, Whiskey Bitters, and a Scotch Rinse for flavor. Yes, Eliza Doolittle, it’s a misogynistic mix for men and the women who control them. The fate of Georges was now in the helpful hands of Brother Bill. It did not fail. At ease, men. Let’s begin. Local Oysters on the Half Shell($ 2.50 Each) were a quick starter. Georges takes pride in serving sustainable seafood and local cuisine. Nothing exotic about the oysters at all; however, they were adequate and props for being local.(3 stars) Grilled Natural Angus Beef Ribeye($ 40) was a tender cut of Niman Ranch Beef served with Roasted Baby Root Vegetables, Point Reyes Blue Cheese Butter, and a Sherry Jus. It’s the only meat item on the menu. No other is needed.(4 stars) Idaho Golden Trout($ 23) seemed simple. It was … simply superior. On a bed of Buttermilk Potatoes with Almond Brown Butter, Sautéed Spinach, this dish satisfied the ever-hard-to-please mother.(4 stars) Vadouvan-spiced Day Boat Scallops($ 29) would be hard to mess up thanks to one of my favorite spice blends … and Georges didn’t. The Parsley Root Purée and Pomegranate Vinaigrette danced together with the help of Guanciale Meat and Persillade Sauce.(4 stars) Georges isn’t large … and kind of hidden on Sansome Street. Bookmark it now. Someday you’ll be in the Financial District and seeking something local and delish. The Unilocal app will bring you to Georges and remind you … By George, blah blah blah.

Love this place! I came here because it was around the corner from my hotel. We ordered raw oysters and half a crab for appetizer. Oysters were super fresh. The half crab was so sweet naturally. It was clear that the quality of the seafood was there. For the entrees, I tried the sea bree with little-neck clams, beet triangolini, and the trout. I loved all 3. Everything was creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The only gripe I have is that the portions could have been a little larger, especially since everything was so damn good! For dessert, we were greedy and ordered the walnut apple sundae, chocolate pistachio, and the panna cotta. The sundae was amazing, with flavors I’ve never had in combination before. The chocolate part of the chocolate/pistachio dish was amazing. So light! The panna cotta was well done, but I was not a huge fan of the flavor, which was fennel. Cute, but small place. I highly recommend if you want good seafood in the financial district.
