Awww… when did Eppler’s close down? When I used to work at Stonestown, I remember buying bagels and pastries here. Another bakery called«Cocola» replaced it. I guess I never noticed…

I stopped here today for a slice of chocolate fudge cake. It looked great and the price was good. I took it home and practically threw it out after several bites. Although it was not stale, the cake lacked flavor and it was simply awful. I love chocolate cake and can tolerate anything including market baked goods but this Eppler’s takes the cake on shitty pastries(pun intended).

I didn’t have the heart to tell J that the cupcakes were lousy. She ordered them for a party. Cupcakes were dry, stale, and generally just sugary and tasteless. She should have asked me to make some and I they would have turned out MUCH better and I’m not all that great of a baker.

If crappy customer service coupled with poor quality baked goods is your bag then this is your place! Do yourself a favor and pop over to Williams-Sonoma(right across from this bakery) and learn how to bake the pastries yourself. YEAH. It closed. Which is probably for the best.

How does this place stay in business and have three SF locations? To be fair, I only had one thing: vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting($ 1.75). However, the cake was distinctly STALE and hard — I mean bad pound cake hard and dry. The frosting was a bit better but still bad. It was hard but not as hard as Creighton’s. I did like the sugar floral decoration on top. To add insult to injury, the stale cupcake came in a bag that said baked fresh daily(cute bag though). They also had donuts and quite a few cakes. The bakery had a run down feeling and sold random things like Asian hi-chew candies(which I like) and Loacker Quadritini Wafers. It’s a bakery so why are they selling Loacker cookies?
