This place had the BEST chillequelles in San Francisco francisco. My understanding is that they have a sister Mexican resteraunt in the Castro. Does anybody know the name?

Seriously, these people were phoning it in at the end: terrible food with indifferent service. Hasta la never.

Heard this place has closed down due to a greedy landlord. So what else is new in the city? Too bad.

There is a big sign that today(May 31) was the last day due to issues with their lease terms and they were closed well before the usual time.

Chips and guac were great, but the mole sauce and enchiladas were dry. Not sitting well after, either.

I was born in Mexico raised in San Diego, so I know GOOD Mexican food. This by far has been the BEST, most authentic Mexican food I’ve eaten in San francisco and I’ve lived here for 6 months. I had the Chilango Quesadillas with Chorizo and the Carnitas plate and they were both finger liking good! The Carnitas were crispy, exactly how we do it in Tijuana! Don’t waste your time in going to any other Mexican restaurant in SF(trust me I’ve tried them all). Listen to the Mexican, try this place!

Did I come on a bad day, or is it always like this? Walked in, asked the first person I saw where I should sit down… No response. Confused, continued to walk over to the next person. No smile, no welcome, just another confused face before a brief«you can sit over there.» The mole chicken enchiladas were the only reason I was there, so I decided to stick it out. They were bland and slightly bitter. The chicken was left unseasoned. My boyfriend had the beef fajitas. Again, so bland. Almost like it had no salt or seasoning whatsoever. I tried again with the desert and ordered the capirotada, which was overly sweet. The only plus here is that they make the tortillas handmade. Besides that it’s over priced for less than authentic Mexican food.

A few good things and a few bad ones. My «margarita» was made with agave wine and was pretty abysmal. Chips were stale. Salsas were excellent. Carnitas was overdone. The tortillas were fresh tasting!

Wasn’t at all happy with this little Mexican restaurant. Our waiter was less then enthusiastic to help us out and my dish(steak) wasn’t at all what I expected(it was served as four paper thin pieces of beef) and didn’t taste very good. With all the other choices of Mexican food in SF, I’d say skip it.

I am from Spain and love Mexican food. I was eating in Chilango last night and I really loved the place, the food and the services. Amazing tacos! 5 stars from me and my friends. :)

Living in SF, most of my mexican food experiences have been in tacquerias. I don’t mean this in a negative way; I love cheap and delicious food. But sometimes I want something better, and I’m pretty much over the standard cantina fare. That’s when I go to Chilango. The quality of their ingredients is phenomenal(looking at you, Niman Ranch filet mignon tacos!). Their prices are extremely reasonable for the quality. And best of all, they are almost never crowded. Seriously, you can walk in on a Saturday night and still be seated without delay… which is basically impossible in the neighborhood. Occasionally the wait staff makes mistakes. I once got the flank steak beef tacos instead of filet mignon, but it was every bit as delicious. Another time our ceviche didn’t show up, but the head waiter gave us some shrimp tacos that had just come out of the kitchen. So I’ve never been anything but completely satisfied. Recommended for anyone who likes mexican food, but doesn’t mind spending a little bit more for something far better. Plus there’s almost always futbol on the TV!

It was a solid meal. Well rounded, and there was some flavor there. The location is good, and the menu is fairly decent. The waitstaff was slow(even though the place was mostly empty), but the interior is cute. Solidly okay. Nothing to get overly excited about, and I’m not entirely sure it’s worth the hype that was given to me, but the carnitas had flavor(although they were dry), and the carne asada con arroz was pretty good. Just nothing fantastic. I would expect more at that price point and location; not too surprised they were so empty for Sunday evening dinner.

Nope. The food was too spicy for two at the table. The waiter was uncommunicative and not present. So much better at so many more places. Save your time and money and pick someplace else. The music was way too loud.

The food is good and reasonably priced. The biggest plus about this place is they don’t overly sauce everything. Most places do. Quesadilla Mexico City–«empanada-style» don’t like empanadas, but my friend wanted it so we ordered it Filet mignon tacos — tasty and must order Duck Flautas — crispy with just enough sauce Bill game to $ 60 including beer and tip.

Creative, modern Mexican cuisine. Our guacamole appetizer with two types of salsa and bean dip disappeared in record time. I loved my main dish of goat barbacoa. It came with handmade corn tortillas and accompaniments of goat broth, avocado, onions, cilantro, lime, salsa, and cactus salad. Lively atmosphere, good service, interesting menu, and reasonable prices for a «nice» dinner out.

Really good food! The guacamole(and bean dip!) was amazing!!! The huarache and barbacoa was really good, we left stuffed! Definitely worth checking out, and going back again. The only downside was that it was a little noisy, which made conversation a bit difficult.

An odd place, really. From the street the signage and the view through the window looks high-end. But then, inside, it has a countertop setup that is reminiscent of a Chipotle. The food was a bit pricey. The service was fine, although nothing amazing. The flavors and textures were«just okay». And by «just okay», I mean I have to sit here and think hard to remember what I ordered, because it didn’t make much of an impression. That’s right, fish tacos. They were just okay. Nothing to write home about. Bottom line: I wouldn’t warn anyone away from this place, but it certainly didn’t really impress me either. You could do worse. You could do better.

The price + quality ratio comes out to a nice even«Yay!» 4 stars. We ended up at Chilango before a show at Café du Nord just across the street. Chow was packed, and Chilango seemed to have a nice clean, modern ambiance with teal walls and cozy window seats. Our server was very nice & accommodating, giving us a prime table for 4 when we were only 2. But once he heard that we were only ordering tacos and no booze, he seemed noticeably peeved. Call me paranoid, but it was a little uncomfortable. Especially when he brought the check without even asking if we wanted dessert(which we did, duh.) The tacos were REALLY good. Definitely pricier than a taqueria, but you get a much nicer ambiance at Chilango vs. a hole in the wall taco joint. They have lots of more-gourmet-than-usual Mexican dishes, and a decent beer & wine list(no cocktails). Interesting tidbit from their website: «Our wines are produced by Latin winemakers from the Bay Area. Our bottles are sold with no mark-up, at the wholesale price.» No wonder our server thought we were crazy for not drinking!

The chips and guacamole are great. The tacos are so so(not my kind of taco,) the tortillas are on the greasy side. The service is lacking manors and that will be the deciding factor for me not to go back again. Rude and condescending with an extra side of chip on my shoulder kind of service. Basically what went down is that he didn’t repeat the order back to us to make sure he had it right. He didn’t get it right. Then he told us we were wrong. My dinning companion ordered short rib tacos and he brought the chicken tacos. When we told him it was wrong he told us that’s what we ordered. Funny thing about that is my dinning companion doesn’t eat chicken at all, EVER. So sure that must be our mistake, we always go around to places and order things we wont eat. Wilco Tango Foxtrot. So it just pisses me off that he was pissed off that he got it wrong and tried to blame his bad service on the patrons of the fine establishment. The shrimp tacos we better. Enchiladas were slightly better but still on the greasy side. Hey Chiango, your tacos are mostly sub-par(not the guacamole — it’s good) and your servers are rude. You should think about trying to make it better. Oh, for what it’s worth the price point is a bit on the high side for what it is.

Chales.
