Welcome to Ground Zero for gentrification in the lower Bernal neighborhood. Want to interact with some of the local culture & people that have been here for decades? Want to be introduced to new foods and styles you haven’t tried before? Want to save money and buy a reasonably priced cup of coffee or tea? Then don’t show up here. This place is overpriced to say the least, swarming with drones spaced out on their laptops, and looks like a European wannabe delicatessen. Techies and fake yogis love this place. If that’s you, and you want to hemorrhage money for tea, then this is the place to be! If you want to try something truly local + better, go to the café a couple doors down. Or go up Cortland Ave. to Progressive Grounds Coffee. Go to Al’s diner(open until 3pm) for some great breakfast and all-you-can-drink coffee. Or go anywhere else, really.

Their granola is absolutely delicious and they have hemp milk here, too! Hemp milk… say whatttt? :) I ordered a vanilla hemp milk latte and it reminded me of being back in Portland… this is my new go-to spot whenever I am in the Mission. Super cute and chill for work, too.

Really excellent breakfast place! They have some really unique items on the menu. The waffle with fruit was awesome. The chia bowl was really good(add granola!). Good coffee, too.

I came here with a friend for the first time the other day and the first thing I noticed was the layout! It was very at home. However, it seemed so cramped and small that it made the room really hot and standing in line was a pain. The register and pickup area was right next to each other in one small corner so everyone was always trying to get past one another. It didn’t make it better when the sugar and creamer table was also right next to the pick up station. Basically, everything was in one small corner! It made everywhere hard to get to! Overall, my drink was good, but not the best. It would have made my visit better if they managed their place layout a bit more!

Cute little place in Bernal Heights! Did not order any food here but their smoothies are AMAZING! Wifi is fast and lots of seating available. Only thing that I didn’t like was the ambiance(seemed a bit old and run-down) and the fact that pigeons fly in every second — so if you’re scared of birds. well.

As many other reviews say, the Dre Cookie(almond chocolate chip cookie) are amazing and hard not to order every time I come here. The other pastries are also great, the coffee cake slices are massive. The rest of the menu is also killer, the Portuguese baguette and the Chia Bowl are favorites. Finally, Andrea the owner is awesome, which is a bonus!

Best. Vegan Cookie. Ever. HOLYWOW!!! The Famous Chocolate Chip cookie is to die for. Great coffee, too. One note: I felt a bit self conscious walking the walk through the café from door to register… as all of the people seated at the tables are on either side of you, and if they look up as you pass, it feels a bit like the catwalk. So I would say to you this: Dress to impress! You are going for That Cookie. Go for it, you got this. It is completely worth it. And Get. That. Cookie. A+++++++++++++ Thanks, and keep it up Café St. George!

Great place, okay food. There’s plenty of okay food in the city, and while Café St. Jorge is cute, it doesn’t elevate anything else to the point where I’d make my way back here unless it’s on the way.

Great place to catch up with friends, people-watch, and/or settle in and get some work done while enjoying a coffee and a casual bite to eat. — Eclectic menu includes lite fare such as a chia bowl, avocado toast, grilled cheese sandwiches, and yummy pastries and smoothies — Free, fast wifi & lots of outlets — Interesting rotating artwork — Schedule of live events Menu is slightly over-priced, but I understand the need to charge more as I and others are certainly guilty of lingering for longer than we should given the café’s cool vibes…

This place never disappoints. Good quality coffee, authentic snacks, & healthy brunch options! The staff is always super friendly & music isn’t bad. Wouldn’t recommend it for a place to study on the weekend mornings 10 – 2 because it does get busy. It’s become a popular spot so they limit dining to an hour. Despite the mere restrictions, it’s still a café worth visiting — whether it’s to read a book or catch up with friends, it’s a versatile gem settled in the southern mission. Stumptown Coffee. Their almond milk lattes are smooth. Cold brews are strong. Food Reccs — any of their toasts(can’t go wrong go wrong w their infamous avo-chilli toast) –chia bowl

YUM! I really enjoyed the late lunch I had here today. Got here with my party of 4 on a late Sunday afternoon and there was no wait for a table, and also a good number of parking spots available on the street(metered and non-metered). I just had a regular mug o’ coffee but their lattes and café au lait looked really good! Would definitely get one of those for a cozy morning(although no laptops allowed during peak hours!). I tried their avocado chili toast and cream cheese toast with honey and berries, as well as a bite of The Goose Is Loose sandwich(ham, cheese, and BANANA. yes, you read that right.) — all of which were sooo good, especially the sandwich which we were really intrigued by! Their menu says«trust us» and we did, and it didn’t disappoint. What a surprising and odd combination, but just as they promised, it just worked! Will try to recreate that flavor combo at home next time :) Both of their toasts were also delicious and I could see myself coming here quite often if I lived in the area. Two little minor complaints /suggestions: — Give a better knife to go with the toasts because it was hard to cut through the thick crusts! — One of the servers was a tad on the rude side; there was some miscommunication about finalizing the payment(my mom’s not used to the iPad process) and when we realized we’d forgotten to order the sandwich, and when we went back, the same tad rude guy mentioned above said something along the lines of «holy cow, more?» –______– BUT, regardless, I really, really enjoyed the food and am sticking with 5 stars!

Thank you for the delicious cold brew that went with my meal and creating an atmosphere that made it so much more enjoyable to catch up with a friend! I came here for brunch with a friend on a Tuesday around 11am, no waits in line and no waiting for seating. We got to enjoy the Portuguese egg tart warmed up and it was so delicious! I also enjoyed the savory waffle with ham and arugula. I microwaved my leftovers later on that day and it was still good! I’ll be back!

My favorite café! It has everything I look for in a café to get work done. –Although the café is on the smaller side, there are plenty of seatings –lots of outlets –free Wifi –good food and drinks! –friendly staff I appreciate the variety of food they offer. From pastries, to toasts, to sandwiches. Also, they serve Stumptown coffee which is a hugee plus! My favorite items so far are the avocado toast and banana smoothie. Oh and anything coffee :) Since about a year ago when I first started coming here, they’ve definitely added on to their menu and space as well as bringing in a lot more people. This is great! However the café is usually very busy and a bit noisy in the peak hours. Finding a seat is slightly harder now. I’m not trying to complain because I still love coming here, but it’s just a precaution! 4 stars because pricing is just a bit high. A toast and latte comes up to $ 8. However, the quality and service is great so I guess it evens out: P

The avo toast was a tad too acidic for my taste but I did enjoy my macchiato. It was very strong, creamy, and not sour.

This place is one of my favorite spots to get some work done while grabbing a quick breakfast! I usually get the avocado toast because who doesn’t love bread and avocado? And the hint of spiciness with the chili flakes is nice, and they’re not stingy with the avocado. The coffee is amazing too, as are the selection of coffee additives(raw sugar, brown sugar, simple syrup, cardamom, chocolate powder, cinnamon) – you can basically make your own custom latte. The smoothies are overpriced and kind of gross though. I stopped by for the berry chia smoothie once, and it’ll be my last. Its pretty small and had the consistency of juice, and was ridiculously priced($ 9!). I have no idea what I was thinking when I ordered it.

Café St. Jorge 100% didn’t exist when I lived in San Francisco. What a bummer — I’d have surely been a local up on first my first visit. It’s got all the markings of what an SF coffee shop should be, but with a Brazilian twist that makes it entirely unique. You’ll see this in some of their unusual pastry offerings and some left of center coffee drinks. And with a blue and white tile décor, you’ll certainly feel a sense of calmness overcome you upon walking through the front door. In a saturated coffee market, they found a wrinkle that sets them apart from the crowded caffeine race.

This place has been on my list for a «quaint breakfast/lunch» — such a neighborhood gem. While the location is a bit random(in Bernal Heights off of Mission Street — a bit south of all the shops off of Mission/Valencia), it’s definitely worth the walk over. We live in the Mission, and it’s only a short walk; but even if you don’t live in the Mission, I’d still recommend popping in. A HUGE fan of avocado toast, I had to try that. I also added on their garden salad as well, along with a cold brew on tap. My husband tried the grilled ham and cheese with bananas. Avocado Toast(4 stars) — This was such a unique twist on avocado toast; the bread looks really thick, but it’s not dense, so not overly«bready». The citrus with the spice of the pepper flakes was such a good balance — the lemon made it taste so fresh. Oh, and the avocado — I really appreciated that they loaded that on; no skimping on ingredients here! Garden Salad(2.5 stars) — Nothing special. But really, the main focus of my brunch was the avocado toast; I was just looking to add on something light to accompany my toast, and this worked just fine. Cold Brew Coffee(4 stars) — Delicious — highly recommend. Just a word of caution, as with any cold brew coffee, it’s highly caffeinated. So if you’re susceptible to caffeine, just watch your amount of intake of this stuff ;) Grilled Ham, Cheese & Banana Sammy(5 stars) — Holy moly, this was excellent. I, being a lover of sweet with savory… knew this would be delicious. But my husband(as I imagine others would be) was a little skeptical, but decided to give it a go. He couldn’t get over how good it was — he was like, «We are coming here all the time!!!» I had a couple of bites as well, and it was over the moon delicious. Decadent without being too buttery/messy(as some grilled cheeses can be). Highly recommend. Overall, this place is SUCH a cute neighborhood stop. The ambiance is adorable, laid-back, and bright. I would definitely recommend stopping in for a coffee break, brunch/lunch/breakfast, or even a laid-back HH(they offer wine and small bites /plates that sound great). So happy about this find!

Café St. Jorge embraces a sophisticated yet simple breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu while still maintaining a casual, laptop-y coffee shop vibe. There are plentiful vegan options here, all clearly marked on the menu, which is a definite plus. I hate having to bother the servers with questions about what I can and cannot eat, and there’s always the risk of deception. This place is an open book. V means vegan, VO means there is a vegan options. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! On my first visit, I tried the Orange Blossom Waffle topped with fruit. I didn’t taste much orange nor blossom, but it had a crunchy exterior and soft interior, the way a proper waffle should be. I thought that the outside was perhaps a touch overcooked(i.e. a bit on the hard side), but I let the maple syrup soak in to soften it up. The second time around, I wasn’t feeling super hungry, so I just went with the avocado toast. It’s $ 5.75, but you get a pretty generous slice of bread smothered with a ton of gorgeous, sexy, perfectly ripe avo and a sprinkling of chili flakes(I wanted more, more, more!). If not for the price tag, I think I could have devoured at least a couple more slices. Ironically, I don’t think they toasted the toast, as it was served at room temp. Do they pre-toast the toast? Gosh, I hope not. Their lattes are unimpressive. On my last visit, it was way too foamy and lacked that bold, delicious espresso flavor I have come to expect. No latte art, either. They brew Stumptown Coffee, for you coffee aficionados. They also offer almond or rice milk for you dairy-free cuties. Maybe the cold brew tastes better? I will sample a glass of it next time. It’s a little spendy, but if you’re feeling extravagant, I would give them a try. Go on payday & nibble and nosh to your heart’s content!

LOVED this place for breakfast. First of all, they sell STUMPTOWN coffee — brewed in Portland. Love this coffee — so I was ecstatic to see this upon walking in. The first day I came in and ordered the egg sandwich slider with avo and arugula on Portuguese sweet bread. It was the perfect size and oh-so-yum. We loved this place so much, we came back specifically to try their chia bowl another day — I’ve never heard of soaked chia, but you better believe I am going to do this at home now. They soak the chia overnight in their homemade almond milk, and it has a consistency of eating tapioca. It was topped with cinnamon, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, dates, seeds, and almonds. It was good texture with added crunch and not overly sweet. I truly enjoyed this meal and had a fresh squeezed green juice with it. The place has several small tables inside and a couple outside. You walk up to order at the counter, and take a number, and they’ll bring your food out after you wait for your drinks. Cute little notes on the wall ask that you not stay longer than 60 minutes at the tables during busy times — they say this with humor, which is appreciated. Highly recommend this place.

Café St. Jorge is a cute little café in Bernal, not tucked into the center of downtown Bernal so it’s more accessible to the rest of us(right of Mission St). The café has free wifi, a clean bathroom, ample seating, good lighting and a wealth of outlets. On a weekday I grabbed a seat no problem but was surprised by how busy it got by 11AM. The cappuccino was good(they use Califia Almond Milk!), but I really came for the portuguese egg tart($ 2.50. I had Lisbon’s famous Pastel de Belem and still dream of this delicious pastry, and I hoped Café St. Jorge would offer something similar. Had I never known the deliciousness of Lisbon’s Pastel de Belem I may never have been disappointed, but this one was not as creamy and tasted a bit like it was dried up at the top. They are also alot smaller in real life than I had expected based on pictures. Overall, cute café good for laptop campers. A menu of very delicious sounding items — from savory pastries to avocado toast — however, skip on the portuguese egg tart and come early to grab a seat! Pro-Tip: credit cards accepted, minimum purchase required. Punch cards available.
