This is the second pop up dinner I’ve attended and again, it was amazing. Chef Ryan and Cayce have such a fantastic and fun palate to create extra-ordinary dishes which will blow your mind and fill your belly. You will not leave hungry. Last night I attended the 7 Course Fried Chicken Tasting and these deliciously fun dishes brought back such great food memories to my palate and of course filled my belly. Okay, here’s my account of this fabulous meal: First course: flaky buttermilk biscuits finished with coarse cracked black pepper //charcuterie //scratch made fruit preserves(cardamon apricot was my fave!) For a 7 course tasting, you MUST fight the urge to eat a second biscuit! Cheese Course: home made pimento cheese //charcoal crackers — OMG this was too die for… over the top rich pimento cheese not found in trailer parks or diners! Greens Course: watercress salad, cornbread croûton; bacon jalapeño vinaigrette — perfectly dressed! Watercress is my new go to green! Bits of salty bacon paired with the crunch of cornbread croûton and the bite of red onion was amazeballs! 1st Chicken course: classic buttermilk fried chicken //creamed corn — perfect crust — it should be sold in stores! Corn pudding as light and fluffy as any savory soufflé. For me this was THE perfect bite of crunch, juicy chicken topped with the sweet fluffy corn. Spectacular! 2nd Chicken Course: nashville hot chicken //pickles — as I gnawed on this lit drumstick delicately flavored with gochujang and cayenne the heat was balanced and delicious. Oh, yeah, and who doesn’t love a fried bread and butter pickle? That would be EVERYONE! 3rd Chicken Course: crispy and tangy fried chicken inspired by david chang //nori compound butter and tartine crostini — the coating on these lil wings was sticky and garlicky, not Hooters wings at all. Totally elevated and oh, so delicious! Dessert course: chocolate-beet ganache //chèvre ice cream //‘ritz’ cracker crunch — now we’re talking… funky fun magical and another perfect bite! Pure Genius as Cayce and Ryan’s flavor profile of this ONE dish was the perfect mashup up of the ripe stinkyness of humboldt fog ice cream to the faux«red velvet-like» ganache hit with the crunchy salty bit of ritz. And yes, I’m going BACK to Break and Gather for MORE meals as they are securing larger venues which will prove to be HUGE!
