I hired Thomas Construction to build a duplex in San Diego. When billing seemed to exceed work done, I asked for an accounting reconciliation. At that point, Thomas Construction became hostile and refused to satisfactorily back up their charges.
Derrick is generally cordial, but I have issues with his accounting (primarily) and overall quality of work (secondarily).

When we recently decided to sell our rental condo in La Mesa, I was reluctant to remodel because we live out of the area and I could not be present to make sure everything was done properly. However, our Realtor, Cleve Shirley, recommended Derrick Thomas very highly, so we went ahead. The work included replacing floors, repairing a cracked slab, painting, new counter-tops, new hardware, etc. It looked so great that we got two offers during the preliminary open house, before the property ever went on the MLS.
Naturally, we were very pleased with the work and the result. An added bonus was Derrick’s positive «can-do» attitude every time we communicated. Unlike so many contractors, Derrick always expressed appreciation for the work, and frequently made suggestions on ways to save money.

Derrick and his team are the jacks-of-all-trades for anything involving home remodeling!!! We had them do several projects for us, both big and small. They removed walls to open up our living area, resurfaced our brick fireplace with stone, repaired wood flooring, changed lighting, added a solar tube, put in wood beams, and many other miscellaneous jobs.
We are completely happy with Derrick’s professionalism, quality of work, communication, and pricing. Would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an affordable, ethical contractor to improve their home.

We have used Thomas construction for several entire home remodels, as well as some smaller jobs. Derrick and his team get the job done quickly, on budget and are very knowledgeable about every aspect of the construction process. Derrick is great at seeing our vision for every project and executing it with little oversight. Not only are they good at what they do, they are good guys who you can trust to show up and get the job done as promised.
