This place is great for fresh pastries! The menu varies day to day from best that I can tell. They offer turon, cooked bananas with a crunchy sweet shell that are AMAZING! They are 3 for $ 1!!! They have bicho bicho, Filipino donuts that are about ten inches long and only 50¢! They have Spanish bread which is good but not my favorite. There’s another pastry I’m forgetting. Additionally, they have great Asian drinks to go like Mogu Mogu(sweetened gelatin in a flavoured drink, strawberry, grape, coconut) as well as my favorite canned THAIICEDTEA. This place is small but they offer the best value for your dollar of any place in imperial beach!

this location has had different owners over the last decade, and considering it was my family at the beginning of the decade, it holds sentimental value to me… wait, give me a second. *holds back tears and prepares for unbiased review* i hadn’t been here in awhile, so i decided i would order lunch and a baked good for dessert to judge both aspects of the store. lo and behold, baked goods are at a minimum, so instead i just order food… dinuguan and picadillo with white rice. the food was fine, not amazing… in the past i’ve had spectacular dinuguan here, but i guess it was just a little off that day; not as vinegar-y and salty as i feel dinuguan should be. the picadillo was oily, but then again, that’s how filipino picadillo is, right? the portion sizes are large and you get more than enough rice. tay’s also has a variety of filipino grocery goods, including phone cards. i expect more bread and pastries if the words«bake shop» are in your title, but perhaps i’m too harsh a judge.
