I went to the mall and went to the food court. I almost went with the Mongolian place where you pick all of the ingredients and then watch the guy cook it but then I saw this place. Just about every eatery had customers except for Santorinis. I felt a little sorry for them so I went ahead and tried their food. It was ok… but I regret not going to the Mongolian place.

I was at Mission Valley Mall this afternoon and my Mom got hungry, so we trekked over to the food court. I haven’t eaten at this food court before, but when we walked in, I felt like it was slim pickins’. They had a Coffee Bean, Sarku(terriyaki), Rice King, Great Khan, Subway, Burger King, some Indian food and one or two other joints. I saw Santorini and their menu looked decent, so I gave it a try. I also tried the gyros combo that Meredith W. had and she was right on about the food, but I got a gang load of fries with my order. =) I was in the mood for fries and thought the paprika they sprinkled on the fries was a nice touch and the salt was just the right amount. Everything is made to order and the food is served piping hot, I burned the roof of my mouth with a french fry! My Mom only ordered the gyro with nothing else, but we were both surprised at how much grub you get for your money. It’s a good deal, my Mom’s gyro was $ 4.99 and I think my combo(which came with a small soda) was $ 6.79. If I’m at the mall and I’m hungry, I’d go back to Santorini(spending over an hour at Nordstrom Rack on a crazy-busy Saturday will do that to you!). For a Greek food joint, I thought it was funny how all their workers(including the cooks) were Chinese… they were also super friendly. =)

Hey, it was actually listed, so I might as well review it, even if it is MALLFOOD. I have no idea if this is a chain or not — but growing up in Jersey, there was ALWAYS a Greek place in the food court! So I felt pretty confident. I got the«Gyros Combo». It was pretty good — and the pita was stuffed! I had meat and tomato and lettuce falling everywhere. Good thing they gave me a fork. The tzatziki sauce was delicious — I should have asked for more of it! Their«seasoned fries» that they offer with the combo… they were seasoned with salt and… chili powder, maybe? Regardless, there wasn’t much of it. Which didn’t bother me, because I like fries, plain or seasoned. One thing I will say — they gave me a TON of them. It was the hugest amount of fries I’ve ever gotten with a combo at the mall EVER. East or West Coast. I couldn’t finish them. Everything was piping hot and came with the quickness and with a smile. And my total, including tax, was just over $ 7. Not too shabby.

Like all the other Santorini Island Grills, this located in the mall of Mission Valley and if your craving Greek food, just grab their Gyros. They give you large portions and their generous with the Gyro meat. The people who run Santorini’s are really nice too. Like all the other Santorini’s the best option is substituting fries for salad or any other sides. If your on the run, just grab their daily lunch specials. You get generous portions for your buck~!
