This was a very fun run!!! I had been wanting to do a 10k for a while, and this one was definitely a great one! There was a lot of people, and the price was reasonable. I loved the fact that it was on Thanksgiving Day! This was my excuse for eating all that food later on for dinner, lol. I wish though they would’ve had more things to give out to the runners. I’ve been to other races before, and I love it when I get rewarded with all the yummy things they have to eat after the race, and the small samples and gifts that different sponsors that promote the event give afterwards. Overall though, it was a good experience :)

The best part about this run was not my dog in his fetching bandana(a gift to him for registering and running with me). It was also not the lively M.C. keeping the masses entertained while we eagerly awaited for the starting gun. It was also not all the SWAG from the vendors. All of those things are awesome, but the best part was the organization factor. Yes, everything was organized well. The T-Shirt and bandana station moved like a well-oiled machine. The herds of people were organized well. Shoooooot… there was even free parking in the PetCo parking lot, adjacent to the starting line. The streets were blocked off and the routes were clearly marked. The run itself is an easy course. Flat, through the streets of Downtown and the Gaslamp and early enough in the morning so you can get your turkey on later!!! Excellent work, Turkey Trotters!!! I will see you next T-Day!

Kenyans watch out b/c Team Short Shorts(TSS) is running for the hungry! Never mind that my teammate and I spent more time on making our retro runner costumes than on training. Even if we died attempting to run this 10K(6.2 mi), we, at least, had the peace of mind knowing we looked hot doing so. So with our knee high socks pulled up, our fanny packs clipped in, our sweat bands wrapped tight and, of course, our short shorts on, we headed towards the race on Thanksgiving Day. 7:10am start time. Annnnnnddddd GO! MILE1: TSS takes off at a slow and steady pace. TSS bumps into a couple of ladies running in tutus and hula-hoops and strike up a convo about our costumes. Awesome! MILE2: TSS picks up the pace and encounters their 1st band… playing BONJOVI. A pleasant surprise and a great pump-me-upper. Awesome! MILE3: TSS gets heckled at by other runners. TSS turns around to find about 15 runners with turkeys hats on. TSS hangs out with the turkey head runners, who turned out to be a bunch of high school grads running with their old teacher. Awesome! MILE4: The beginning of the second loop. TSS is still going strong. Maybe this isn’t going to be so hard after all. TSS stops for a second to boogie with another race band… dressed up as the Blues Brothers! Awesome! MILE5: TSS grabs some water from the volunteers to stay hydrated. TSS is feeling pretty confident and is starting to pick off runners. They’re making good time considering that this was the furthest either of them have ran all year long. Awesome! MILE6: Oh shit! TSS is really starting to feel it now. They start to think that it was a bad idea to run so fast during mile 5? Not even the up beat tunes of the band playing Love Shack can relieve the symptoms of fatigue, dizziness and cramping. Not so awesome. THELAST .2MILES: TSS sprints to the finish trying to push back the feelings of nausea. The cheering crowds help them maintain the sprint till the finish line. Go, go, go! And TSS finishes the run at 1:04:36 without either teammate upchucking! Ubertastically awesome! After the race, my teammate and I partake in a carboload feast of pizza, bagels, granola and bananas. Thank you Run for the Hungry organizers for making my 1st10K awesome.
