We were desperately trying to find a bike rental place that was open on Thanksgiving Day. I called Pure Life around noon on Thanksgiving Day and I was so happy that someone answered. The guy I talked to told us he’d be there till 2pm and I asked him to hold two bikes for us. We wrapped up lunch at walked over at 1:50pm — and they were closed! I was so disappointed. You can’t tell a customer your hours and then bail on them!

$ 25 paddle board rental for the entire day! Cheapest we could find. Guy was very nice, no nonsense, in n out. I would definitely recommend! Beginner at paddle boarding and board was long/wide enough to make it very easy for me :)

I loved this place the guy greeted us with a smile told him we wanted to rent some bikes… He said sure and set us up… Adjusting our seats, showings us a map… Telling us what places we should check out, and was all around very informative… The bikes we rented were barely used… No problems at all plus we did some shopping in his shack… All around great place to get some bike rentals.

John is so helpful and nice! I’ve rented bikes and surfboards here a few times and always have an awesome experience. Pricing is hourly or for a day and is super fair. Thanks John for being awesome!

Went there an hour before closing time. JOHN was excellent and super helpful and gave us a free hour for the day so we could keep the bikes overnight and then used our coupons for $ 10 all day bike rentals the next day!!! He explained to be cautious on where to lock your bikes overnight so we had a safe place to put them. Overall this is the only shop I will return to to rent bikes!!! Thanks JOHN!

Prices on rentals were very cheap and reasonable, the equipment was well managed, and they had very friendly service! They have soft top and hard top surf boards to choose from, along with bikes, boogie boards, wetsuits, and skateboards. Highly recommend this place for rentals or purchasing new or used equipment!

Okay place to rent a board, 20 bucks for half day with wet suit, a bit of a walk to the area you can surf and you have pay to park in the lot,

I wanted to take my 3 year old son on a bike ride on a Sunday, and couldn’t find any place that was open and which had bikes with trailers. I finally came across this one, they were open till pretty late, the staff was friendly and cool, and the best of all my son was happy after the ride. He was so comfortable in it that he passed out right away.

Rented a couple of surfboards with my friend today. The boards were in good shape and provided plenty of fun! Renting from Pure Life was quick, painless, and cheap! The shop itself has a very cozy atmosphere. It looks like they take good care of their equipment, all their rentals are in great condition unlike the crappy boards you get at other rental shops. They also have some cool looking boards on sale inside that are worth taking a look at. The workers are very friendly and easy to talk to(and good looking if I may add ;D). We met the owner Chad when we were there and he was super nice. He even gave us a couple of beginner surfing tips before we headed out, something we really appreciated. I will definitely be coming back the next time I’m in PB!

DONOTRENTFROMHERE-I rented a bike from here(recommended from my hotel) on 7÷27÷2012 for three days. I was given a bike lock(coil cable lock) and it was stolen between the hours of 6PM and 11PM right from the boardwalk! The bike was locked. This is a very common occurrence in San Diego and neither my hotel nor the bike shop warned me. Also, the shop was like«well, you just bought a bike». Way to go San Diego tourism and way to go Pure Life Surf & Snow customer service! Now that the first charge for the stolen bike went through my account on 7÷30÷2012(after having TWO pending transactions for the amount of the stolen bike(which the owner«Chad» could not explain on 7÷28÷2012 and it ruined my available vacation funds) Pure Life has now hit my account AGAIN on 8÷1÷2012 for the amount of the stolen bike. After speaking with Chad on 8÷1÷2012 he said I have to dispute it with my card company as he is not in the office to look into his merchant processor transactions. This place is a nightmare waiting to happen. DONOTRENTFROMHERE!!!

This place was 2 blocks away from the hotel we were staying at. We got a coupon to rent beach cruisers for $ 10 for all day long! What a deal! I think the normal price is $ 12 for half day which is also a deal! This place was cool. Friendly people and a quick and easy rental process. Very laid back. Bikes were in good condition. Highly recommend to rent a bike to cruise the beach path and/or ride all the way around the Bay like we did. They also rent surfboards, rollerblades, stand up paddle boards, bodyboards, beach umbrellas and chairs.

Thinking about renting a boogie board(aka body board)? All but a few boards are total crap. The front end was peeling off on one. The other one had been completely folded in half. $ 20 for 1 day rental. Consider that you can get one for only ten bucks more at Target. They hide the good ones in the corner, and if you’re a cute girl, you may get one. Service is mixed. Last year the guy working was cool. This last time there was a different guy who was a tool. Last try. C-ya!

In California, unless you live in the uninhabitable desert you don’t have room to store a lot of shite, right? Which means, why not rent? And when you find a place that rents beach cruisers for $ 5 an hour and you’re friends just came in from(insert city here) it’s pretty convenient. But what if you actually did have a bike at home? On account of needing to store things properly, it’s stored up high in the rafters. So it’s a pain to get down, and you’re short on time? Rent a bike I say and from here! Today I got me a little orange number and me and my pal Jaimie cruised along the boardwalk which @ 3pm was just too packed. So we went over to Mission bay. Midway through the ride however I bit it good off one of those«high-OMG-who-built-that-so – frackin-high-curbs». The view from behind, freaked Jaimie right out. Then I saw them, the people who looked in horror across from the crosswalk as I went down, yelling like Darth Vader in that really bad Lucas scene, «Nooooooooooo.» But from my angle, it was the best angle of all, not Jaimie’s from behind, and not the folks at the corner across the street, if only I had video for what ensued, if only… You must first understand, I came flying off the curb catching some serious air! I was just like my dog, all four paws splayed when he’s flying off the front step, missing the walk entirely and landing on the lawn. Then as I landed(which is somewhat like figure skaters, the landing is HUGE, it IS key!) It doesn’t matter how many times you practiced and you were perfect. If in the olympic ring you screw up the landing, you’re done. And I do not want to underestimate this, let me tell you, I really screwed up MY landing today. Every douchey PB stoner with a black hat and long shorts covered in tatts saw the scene. Everyone gave me that look, the one where you look like you just got kicked in the nuts. Except I’m a girl, so I have no nuts, but they get it, it’s like a «nuts kicker» moment. I swear to you, I could not keep those high beach cruiser arms in control and I went down! But then, I almost recovered trying futilely to land my feet firmly on pavement. But it was just barely out of reach so it just didn’t take. I just kept going, it seemed like it would never end? My whole body hit the pavement very hard, but on all the pointy spots, all the spots you hate to bang. I remember it all through the view of my Bebe frames. I saw the shaky camera like angle the whole way, it just kept going and getting worse each second. Until finally I couldn’t hurt or fall anymore, I was on pavement. Thank the good spirits of Mission Bay, it was finally done. Quickly I realized the light was going to change I had to get the bike up and walk back to the corner. No one laughed, at first, then Jaimie and I locked eyes and we both burst out laughing uncontrollably as we sat at the steps at Tony Roma’s letting my adrenaline calm in my blood stream. I was pretty much covered where I hit pavement, but I didn’t escape unscathed, the forearm got the wrath. Oh yes, the left forearm, it was forcibly molted. That’s right,(to my real life friends) we are talking«Kittle-worthy road rash». So, I got up and finished my last 30 minutes going bayside. There were less people and we were cold maxin & relaxin lookin’ superstylin and feeling breezy, albeit with my bloody stump for an arm. I think the bike was really just too tall for me, so I had trouble every time I had to stop. Take something from this review, and remember on a bike, height matters. They usually have lots of bikes to fit me, but it was a busy day so we took what we could get. This location is prime, a noteworthy landmark would be the old closed Dairy Queen, it’s in that lot between grand and garnet on Mission Boulevard. I like this place because they are not like the deceptive folks renting bikes at Catamaran that made us pay a lot more because we were 5 minutes off from the time we had figured was an hour. Their fees are much higher at the Catamaran as well, but they have tourists who may not know to go to Pure Life. But if you’re reading this and heading to San Diego, now you know! They also rent surfing equipment and other fun beach stuff. If you live here and need some fresh air, it’s a cheap fun thing to do. Take it from me, road rash is also perfect for«Show-and Tell».
