I sure do love a good ol’ Mexican market! As you first walk in you’ll find yourself staring at the fast-casual countertop with all kinds of authentic dishes, hot and waiting to be served once ordered. Stuff your little Mexican grandmother would prepare and would let sitting on the stove all day, simmering in its own seasonings and spices. If you can make it past this delicious gauntlet you’ll quickly be thrust into a world loaded with sheer awesomeness! It’s all about the meat and produce for me at, Northgate. The marinated meats are a steal of a deal and you can easily land yourself four pounds of chicken leg meat for about five bucks. It grills up nicely and is ready to go straight out of the package without any additional tampering or doctoring. Meat without veggies? No! The produce section will not steer you wrong and it’s cheeeeeaaaap to boot. This is definitely a place to pick up things that can cost you an arm and a leg at a place like Ralph’s or Trader Joe’s. Stock up on limes, tomatoes, avocados and cilantro, and if you’re feeling real cray-cray, test your skills by grilling up some fresh nopales! Super cheap and super rad… keep an open mind!

I don’t see why it shouldn’t get 5 stars… it really is all that. Well… ok, looking for a gripe, I guess I didn’t see asparagus that I went in for… but I was transported to Mexico in an instant and I got my fresh salsa, camarone ceviche, Mexicana crema, and other little goodies that I didn’t need, but just inspire! This one somehow seems better than the one I usually go to in CV. Technically this might be a smidge further from home, but it’s easier to get to as it’s right off the 5 south of downtown. I think I’ll be a regular now. Almost forgot and not sure I should share, but the jumbo U-count 15 shrimp were 8.99/lb and that appeared to be a regular price. This will be my go to seafood place from now on… An added bonus is service was great from all the people I encountered in the store.

Northgate. Northgate… Northgate… Do come here for: Rotisserie chicken & «agua de limón» aka limeade. Chicken is never dry, I mean never. They add chia seeds to their limeade which makes it 10x better. I’ve tried making it at home, but no, it doesn’t taste the same. They must add something hmm, If only I knew the secret. Oh, and it’s limeade because they use limes not lemons, and in Spanish it’s all just Limon so yes, just get agua de Limon. Ok enough of that rant. Groceries can get a bit pricey compared to other places like f4L, but they have weekly deals that are somewhat decent, once in a blue moon. If you happen to want to grab a bite, they have a nice variety of Mexican food such as chiles rellenos(stuffed peppers), carnitas, carne Asada, rice, beans and even pupusas(not Mexican). Although I’d skip on that, go to El Salvadoreño for those. Staff is nice(majority of the time). They do need to open more registers. Groceries, sweets, fresh waters, stocked produce and ok service. I like.

This is the best Northgate Market I have ever been to. They have everything here, plus very clean and very friendly service. The deli is amazing! Many varieties of fresh salsa, ceviche, etc. We tried the Pico de Gallo yesterday, the best I have ever tasted!

I was looking over my page and realized that I don’t have a review for this place yet… odd… I digress I come here as a treat every now and then. My wife met me downtown on my birthday and I took her here for lunch, for example. It’s casual, simple, convenient, and delicious. Their food bar is plentiful and they have just about every Mexican delicacy you can imagine. I usually get the carnitas plate, but the lengua is amazing, the ribs are delicious, the chicken(mole?) is incredible. To be honest, I only come here for lunch, so I haven’t tried their grocery section, but if it’s as plentiful as their food bar, I’d say they’re doing alright. If you’re in the Barrio, this is an amazing choice, and it’s a little different from the norm, and that’s always cool. Make sure you grab some cilantro, onion and lime from the salsa bar and you’re set. Ok, it’s your turn now. Time to go get some food.

We come here during the summer, they grill your meat for free. We usually buy 4 pounds of chicken for the week, it makes meal prepping easy. North gate also has good chorizo beans.

Location: Heart of Barrio Logan off Cesar Chavez between Newton & Main on the south side of the street. Blue line trolley [Barrio Logan] station is a block southwest. This store next to the Coronado bridge &, of course, that means it is also next door Chicano Park. This is what every supermarket should be and so far it is also the best Northgate Gonzalez Market I’ve been to. We live in the Los Angeles area and my family still talks about the«Northgate Gonzalez next to Chicano Park». The market is clean, well stocked, & the café food has perfect flavors. Find most everything you need for preparing authentic Mexican cuisine. If you are kitchen challenged then do not worry because this store has everything you need with a full service: –Tortilleria(ask to try one fresh made tortilla!) –Carniceria//Meat Dept –Panaderia//Bakery –Deli –Cafeteria style café –Piñatas Currency: Accepts Dollars & Mexican Pesos. Woot woot! Vehicular transport challenged: Shuttle van available Parking: Small private lot & street available. Bike parking along Cesar Chavez WC: Yes, separate stalls for ladies & gentlemen. Ladies room has a changing table.

Omg I love this place! They have everything a Mexican wants. It reminds me of a store in Tijuana. Where you’ll find every salsa you can imagine. Ones that even remind me of my moms. What else? MEXICANCANDY! Because candy is important and when you add chile, you’re set for the mouthwatering best. Their bakery is also great and filled with a variety of pan dulce. Mmmm! Plus you walk out and don’t feel like you spent a fortune. Win!

I really do love this place. Always great deals on produce and meat. Plus the staff is really nice. Weird thing to say for a grocery store, but they really are.

I love these stores. But this one in particular I have some issues with. Mostly with the cashiers. They’re kinda inattentive and a little on the«you suck» side of customer service. As far as groceries go, I would be VERY careful in what you buy here. Some foods are all kinds of inexpensive, but there are also things that are ridiculously uncheap. Example: the eight-pack of Abuelita’s instant hot chocolate mix is close to $ 3 here. I previously bought it for half that elsewhere. But the cinnamon is a good buy here. Yet, it’s better to buy soy milk at a different store. See where I’m getting at, here? Don’t rely on Northgate for all of your grocery needs or you’ll get ripped off. But keep an eye on their sales. Those tend to be great(like 20 pounds worth of potatoes for $ 2). These stores have you covered for all Mexican holidays, too: roscas for Dia de Reyes: champurrado and tamales for navidad; pan de muerto for Dia de Los Muertos. You can buy the ingredients for these foods or buy them already made. If you do the latter, know that it will be good. I like Northgate’s Mexican beer selection, too. A couple of my favorites are Dos Equis Ambar and Bohemia. Both of which are difficult to find in more mainstream grocery stores. I actually think they have most Mexican beers available for your dranking pleasure. The balloons. They have cube-shaped balloons. O_O Note: Most things here are Mexican. No, not«Hispanic» or «Latino». Mexican. Check where the stuff is imported from. Some things, like a very small section over by produce, next to the butcher’s, is for people south of Mexico; frozen pupusas, choclo, etc. Again, this section is super small. I didn’t even know it existed until I wandered off and accidentally found it. Other than that, the store caters to the Mexican population.

This is the nicest northgate I’ve been to. The perks of this place are a lot of unique mexican products and far cheaper prices than normal markets. The only setback is almost a complete lack of organic selection.

Yay! I am a fan BUT parking is terrible, impossible even so plan ahead. The trolley rolls right there, nice option. When you do finally make it in the store is clean, fully stocked and pleasant. Their homemade ‘arroz con leche’ is worth the parking frustration.

This place is a «must stop» if you happen to be in Barrio Logan and appreciate good, reasonably priced produce and Latino food. The produce, groceries, and baked goods here are fresh, reasonably priced, and varied. It is hard stop oneself from picking up a bunch of extra items when here, as there are so many enticing things to eat and try, everywhere. And, you cannot beat their hot food specials, all clearly displayed and/or prepared to order. This is the spot for authentic, filling, and light-on-the wallet Mexican food.(Their Salvadorean pupusas are also quite good, loaded with extra toppings. Yum.) This supermarket, to me, is a cornucopia of all things tasty, regardless of your ethnic food preferences(so many spices, produce, and ingredients can be used in any kind of cooking, and I’ve found many items that I’ve used in some Asian, Caribbean, and other types of dishes.) You have got to check out this place. It is actually worth a side trip to Barrio Logan, if you are in the general vicinity.

This place is huge! I love everything about this place! They have a great selection of produce, nothing that I saw was over ripe. They have good deals in the bakery section and basically throughout the entire market. Meat prices were decent as well. I got tamales and it was AMAZING!!! Another plus they have a few food sampler stations as well.

This is a really good Northgate, and I’ve been to a few! Huge chicharrones, nice looking hot food bar area, lots of fun Mexican drinks and candies, kept clean, staff are friendly and helpful. I don’t spend a great deal of time down in Barrio Logan, but I happened to be down here for a community event. If I lived closer, I would make this my local Mexi-mercado for sure! Lots of parking– cars and bikes– available!

I stopped in at this market after having breakfast to pick up some avocados and tortilla chips. The Haas avocados happen to be on sale, two for .99 cents, so I picked up two descent looking ones. I also picked a a large bag of their Northgate Chips Caseros for $ 2 and some change.( ) The were on the thicker side than most and were quite good with their sprinkling of salt. The store was well organized, clean, had that warehouse appeal with its high open ceiling and simple décor.( ) The girl at the produce sections was very nice and helpful when I asked questions regarding the avocados, and the young lady at the register was equally pleasant and polite. This location, like most, has a tortilleria making fresh tortillas daily, and a variety of hot food specialties. No doubt this place caters to the local community, but don’t let that stop you from visiting. The store has plenty to offer for all, including pinatas, if you need one.
