Today, I attended an wedding event in which Mexi Calbi catered. I must say that I am extremely disappointed. It wasn’t the food itself. I would rate that portion in between 2 – 3 stars. I got 2 spicy pork tacos with kimchi, which was alright.(I thought the egg was unnecessary in my taco). And my husband got 2 beef tacos which had very little meat inside.(My husband is Mexican, so he was disappointed with the tiny portion). The problem was that Mexi Calbi limited each guest to only 2 tacos when their contract and even website states that guests receive unlimited tacos. This is a huge deal for a wedding. To not serve enough food to guests ruins the mood of the party. It feels cheap, no matter how good the venue or drinks. One of the guests spoke with the manager of Mexi Calbi about this situation, that the bride and groom had contracted with Mexi Calbi to have unlimited tacos for the guests. Unfortunately, the manager said that this was not the case and communicated differently to the servers. Of course the servers were not at fault, but this created disgruntlement with the guests, some of whom had traveled more than 5+ hours to attend this wedding. For what? A measly 2 tacos and some chips? I know that it’s about the bride and groom and that it is their event, but it’s a big problem when the catering doesn’t service enough contracted food for a wedding, especially when it was in the contract. Even the the website states in their FAQ section that guests are allowed unlimited tacos. «How many tacos can each of my guests have? During the time we are serving, your guests can enjoy as many tacos as they’d like»( ). This is a wedding catering fail. I am extremely disappointed. Sorry, servers, you were great. Your manager was not.

Fantastic quality for the price, coming from a truck! The guacamole is very good. I had a quesadilla with beef short rib meat, very good.

Here is the good and the bad. GOOD: Huge portions Monster size Burritos chunky Guacamole «fresh» to order Packed up Very Well for CARRY OUT-Left everything DRY so it wouldn’t get soggy. Good thinking. Tostada salad had some very fun ingredients and beautiful dressing, Very flavorful plus it comes with a HUGE side of Chunky Guac BAD I really wanted to give this place 5 *****, BUT, —The lettuce that their buried inside was OLD& wilted and scarily enough, BURIED under everything else. One would never notice, but I took mine home and dumped it into a bowl so I could properly MIX up the Tostada salad. There I spotted the dead OLD wilted lettuce. REALLYGUYS? REALLY? How much does it cost to buy fresh lettuce every couple of days? $ 2? Im used to finding that same old limp dead lettuce when I buy those PRE-MADE salads at the grocery stores, Trader Joes, etc after 3 – 4 days in the fridge, but NOTFRESHSALADS. So, in conclusion, OTHER than the WILTED, DEAD lettuce hidden underneath the cabbage, the food was very delicious tasting with a generous portion.

MexiCalbi catered our event on Saturday and all I can say is Yummm! Everyone absolutely loved the food! I can’t begin to count how many people came up to us and told us how much they enjoyed it! We couldn’t have made a better choice in choosing a food truck to cater our event! The food came out quick, the people were friendly and everything was delicious. The only thing that bothered me a little is that we paid extra for each guest to receive chips and guacamole. I thought that this would be automatically served to each guest(since we paid more for every guest) But most people did not get the chips and guac. I guess we were supposed to tell all the guests that chips and guacamole are included since it’s not even listed on their menu??? I don’t know. But either way everyone was still happy and I guess that’s all that matters. Thanks MexiCalbi for a wonderful meal!

The wife had made sandwiches for the beach but this food truck was in the beach parking lot and hard to pass up. Needless to say, we ditched the homemade and opted for calbi tacos, shrimp tacos, and possibly the best chicken quesadilla i have ever had. The combination of the two styles of food is unbeatable, especially with the dipping sauce and their hot sauce. Can’t wait till the next time I accidentally stumble across this truck. This was the best food truck I have personally eaten at.

Delicious to its finest ! Today I decided to check out this food trucks after passing up on them for the last couple of weeks after I seen them at our lunch hour so my first choice was this food truck and at first it looked like it was going to be quite awhile since they had a bit of a line …so it’s time for me to order and I’m greeted with a smile and friendly service which by the way is a plus after awhile of trying to choose what I want the lady recommends getting tacos which I go for *shrimp which was well meranated with what seemed like siracha and some type of sauce which gave it a good flavor * chicken I liked this one a lot the flavor of the sauce topped with cheese gave it a nice mixture *pork was good would have expected to be a lot spicier but overall good I can say I will recommend to friends and family delicious food and great customer service

I ate chicken tacos at their food truck, they were good but a little spicy. The line was super long because of the Del mar food truck event. To make matters worse I wanted to get the short rib tacos but they forgot to defrost the meat so it would not be ready for a long time and they took forever to make the food. I wouldn’t wait that long again. 2 chicken tacos were $ 8

Yum! Yum! Yum! Pretty regularly, the corporate park I work in has food trucks during the lunch hour. And pretty regularly, they all suck. Today, I took the chance and lunched at the food truck when I saw it had a new addition — Mexi Calbi. And I am so glad I did! First, you get a free side of guacamole with a Unilocal check in. Score! It’s pretty tasty. Nothing you can’t make at home, but fresh and delightful nonetheless. For my lunch order I opted for the two spicy pork tacos($ 7). The tacos are not huge, but definitely enough to get you through the work day. Corn tortillas with cabbage, some type of a light ginger sauce or dressing, the spicy pork, and topped with just a bit of cheese. It was simple, but the meat was so flavorful I wish I had just one more taco. They were gone before I really got to savor those last bites. Also, I would have liked them just a tad bit spicier. To call it «spicy pork» is just a tease at the current heat level. Minus a star for the slow service though. The truck was supposed to be open at 11, but didn’t get up and running until much closer to noon. Then, when they did open, it took forever for them to take your order and get your food out. I think they were short handed and operating understaffed. It didn’t seem like this would be the standard. Also, my first choice was the tostada salad that was displayed on their menu, but when I got to the window, I was informed this wasn’t an option that day. Weird, but ok. At least my second choice was a win. All in all, I look forward to the next time I spot the Mexi Calbi truck. I will definitely stop for my second serving of these super yummy asian/mexican fusion tacos!

My friends and I were at Torrey Pines State Beach and after a hike and dip in the beach we were absolutely hungry. Lo and behold, Mexi Calbi was parked in the lot and after my suggestion we decided to try it out. We were expecting to be amazed as comically enough we hold high expectations for food trucks. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla, my friend channeling his inner fat boy ordered two shrimp tacos and a carne asada quesadilla, and another bud ordered a shrimp burrito. We were all pleasantly surprised at the portions upon receiving the orders. Coincidentally, we were not disappointed and absolutely wowed by our choices. Their Asian-inspired sauce was the perfect complement to the shrimp entrees. The shrimp burrito was definitely interesting as it had egg in it and the person eating it said it was tangy and sweet. We’ll definitely keep an eye for this food truck!

I got their spicy pork burrito. It was tasty. It seems like most of their food is not just Mexican food, it’s more of a Mexican-Asian fusion. The burrito was very light because of Asian flavors and cabbage, but filling because of the portion size and proteins. For this reason, I thought it was great for lunch. I’d also like to note that the price is very reasonable. Some food trucks are getting kind of pricy, but these guys keep it within most people’s lunch budget.

The food trucks are right across from my house so my daughter and I went over there. She wanted a quesadilla and I ordered a plain cheese quesadilla for her and was pretty annoyed that it was $ 6 for a plain quesadilla. I mean really… The other thing was it was pure oil/grease. I had to pull tons of the cheese out and there was enough for another whole sandwhich and I had to hold it with napkins because of the oil. I also did the checkin for the guac and they had me hit the use button but I never received it :( I would try the chicken tacos next but wont be getting a quesadilla again.

As a mom of a 5 year old, I operate with the ‘Elmo’ approach to trying new foods; you try something one time and if you don’t like it, you try it again. If you still don’t like it, then you can say you don’t like it. I have only tried this food truck one time so at this point, I will most definitely give it another try! With that said, here is what I didn’t like the 1st time. I got the chicken quesadilla for my son and shrimp quesadilla for myself. The latter was supposed to be a burrito but when it came out a quesadilla after 15 minutes, I opted to keep it instead of waiting any longer for them to make a burrito. Both were very greasy. The flavor was actually pretty good. There was very little shrimp in mine. It was an overpriced cheese quesadilla. The chicken one was better but still full of way more cheese than chicken. I will still try this again and maybe purchase and receive the burrito next time. I’m just curious to know if we caught them on a bad night. It happens and I do see potential with the flavors.

Fantastic quality gourmet tacos. This food truck rocks. Try spicy pork tacos. You can also choose other variety of gourmet meats and have them included in tacos, salads, quesadilla, burrito. Next trip I’m going to try tofu, beef short ribs for sure.

My company was having a party so they hired several food trucks. I am not too much into food trucking anymore, because I have hygiene concerns, but given the huge line for Mexi Calbi and considering the other menu options, I decided to join forces in the waiting line. We got a pre-fixed menu of either 2 tacos or a burrito, so I choose the Korean style tacos, which were good but a little too greasy. I did not like the chips that came with it, I would rather have gotten some fries with it. I had to ask for the spicy sauce, otherwise the person delivering the food was so busy that he would not just give unless asked for. Also i have to ask for napkins as they were not available. I liked because I was hungry but most probably I would not go back on my own.

Maybe I’m somewhat biased on this one, as I have been completely spoiled by Tabe, but I really felt that there were many things lacking with Calbi. Hubs and I got the pork burrito with kimchee in it. I wondered if it was so flavorless because the entirety of the fillings were coated in copious amounts of grease or if that was an inherent flaw. Anyway, like I said, it just didn’t… do it for me. The burritos consisted of some pork, some scrambled egg(what do you guys think this will add? Cuz it adds nothing), lettuce, and kimchee. And it took a long time to make. I just don’t really get it. For the amount of flavor Tabe manages to pack into a burrito, how did this one go so wrongly? PS I have to laugh at the tiny condiment cup of guac they gave me as a check-in freebie. Just put the extra effort into making your burritos better and can the teeny tiny guac.

Food truck Tuesday in Torrey Pines! It was Calbi that took my eye and my stomach and my wallet. I couldn’t choose, so I went with the Taco Trio. Three lovely corn tortillas, one each spicy pork, chicken and what I think was a beef short rib. OMG, heaven. Maybe it didn’t look like the pictures on the side of the truck, but the flavor and the texture was there. Calbi does accept credit cards, which is useful for people like me that don’t carry cash. Yay!

I was so sad that my quesadilla was not up to par. Seriously, how do you not make a quesadilla yummy! My food was very dry, and even though they offered yummy sauce on the side, it wasn’t enough(and I ran out halfway through). The idea is good — Korean BBQ into Mexican style tortilla products. I’m not sure where they went wrong; perhaps the meat needs more marinade or the sauce needs to be thicker, or more cheese, which seems to solve most of the world’s problems, I’ve heard. For $ 4, it would have been a 4 star quesadilla, but at twice the price it gets half the stars.

Ordered the pork tacos, super excited to get my fusion taco fix. First bite… and it was a bit of a let down. Did it taste bad? No, I wouldn’t say that. Did it taste like the perfect marriage between Korean BBQ and Street Tacos? Not quite… I’m not sure I can pick out what exactly was missing, but it just tasted like the flavor wasn’t quite there…

if you’re a food truck fan and you’ve bought food from this truck and thought to yourself«that worker looks familiar…» WELL, it’s cause they’re the same workers that also do the Bratz Berlin food truck. I won’t even elaborate on the poor customer service, cause I already did that with my review of Bratz Berlin. At first thought you’d think«maybe they’re having a bad day» and brush it off, but NO, they’re just like that all the time I guess. I got the taco trio: chicken, beef & veggie The tacos are the same size as street tacos you get at Tijuana but you pay like a hundred times more. The chicken meat was pretty dry, the beef taco was legit, the veggie taco was a waste of space. Quick tip: the veggie is literally just leftover taco fall out minus any type of meat — DON’T GETTHEVEGGIE I would have gotten the tofu as a third option, instead of the veggie, but they were out of tofu Don’t let my review deter you away from trying, but if you must… i say get the beef tacos. Just keep in mind, they’re SNACKSIZE tacos Won’t be back to this food truck tho. 2nd chance at customer service FAIL
