A great place on the streets of San Diego to grab SoCals unofficial food. We tried a variety of things here and everything was top notch.

Lots of homeless people, in fact nothing but homeless people walking around. However, this is great food. I had the Cali burrito with el pastor. Good stuff. Big enough for two meals.

The 4 stars are for the famoso taco. Seriously, it is so delicious. I also ordered the street taco trio. That comes with 3 street tacos of your choice(I got two carne asada &1 al pastor) with rice and beans. The street tacos were not my favorite. They didn’t have much flavor. The carne asada tasted like nothing. I ended up giving both to my boyfriend. They could’ve used seasoning and a little more time on the grill or something. I finished most of the al pastor, but could’ve done without it. The beans were good. The rice was dry, but i will be getting that again. I have a feeling the rice is usually very good. I ordered on UberEats, so I don’t know anything about the restaurant itself. I had an issue with my order & Famoso called me to give me options. So, A+ for Customer Service, Famoso taco, and the beans. I will never order the street tacos again. But, I will be ordering from here again.

We were looking for a quick lunch and saw one of the Famoso Street Food trucks. We ordered a couple of Taco plates. They came with rice and beans. It was good and they provided some salsa. It was very hot and it was an enjoyable meal.

Yeah, this place is dope. Heard they won some taco award and then saw a Groupon for this place, so I had to try it. $ 4 specialty tacos became $ 2 each with the Groupon, which is a steal. Even at $ 4 they’re good because they’re big and filled with awesome ingredients. Not your typical street taco(though they have those too for $ 3), these are fancy little things. Glad to have this place 2 blocks from my house.

Great lunch today at Famoso! I spoke with the owner, Angel, and his staff and they were all so friendly! I sampled the bean soup, and it was also very good. I have heard great things about this place, and it definitely stands true ! I ordered the queso taco with al pastor, and the California taco! I also tried the churros with Bavarian cream, delicious!

I ordered through UberEATS, so I can’t comment about the physical location or customer service, but the FOOD. OHMYGOSH. THEFOOD. A few coworkers and I ordered a Famoso Taco, three Carne Asada Tacos, and Street Fries. I’ve never had anything like the Famoso Taco before. It has shrimp, carne asana, onions, avocado, cilantro, and cotija ALLROLLEDINGRILLEDCHEESE. SAY. WHAT?! The taco itself was super good. The grilled cheese was really soft and not too heavy. The ratio of shrimp/carne asada to the rest of the ingredients was on par. The taco was a LITTLE greasy, but what good Mexican food isn’t? I would 100% get this taco again. This taco may be one of the reasons I return to Famoso. Famoso Taco was $ 3.99 and I thought it was an expensive downtown price, but after I received the taco and saw everything it came with, the price was justified. After I finished the taco, I was pretty much full. $ 3.99 to be full? I’ll take it. My coworker ordered carne asada tacos, but asked for there to be no guac, no onions, no cilantro, and to add cheese and the order came to us 100% accurate. Sometimes restaurants don’t get orders right when you’re ordering in house, so it was amazing and refreshing that the order came to us correct. She said the tacos were delicious. The three carne asada tacos were $ 2.99 total. #WINNING I haven’t found street tacos that cheap sine I left the Central Valley where taco trucks on the side of a country road are a thing. Lastly, the Street Fries. I’ve had many carne asada fries. I’ve tried many in Fresno, Los Angeles, and here in San Diego, but I think Famoso’s Street Fries have quickly become one of my favorites. Easily in my top 5. One of my favorite carne asada fries here in San Diego are at La Puerta downtown, but these give them a run for their money. The Street Fries come with carne asada, fresh cut potatoes, shredded cheese, cotija cheese, guac, pico de gallo, and a chipotle and cilantro sauce. You can also order them with Pollo Asada or Al Pastor. The chipotle and cilantro sauce is a creamy sauce, so it’s not too spicy. The Street Fries are $ 8.99, which might seem like a hefty price tag, but I think that’s around the same price I usually pay here in San Diego. These fries are worth the almost $ 10 price. My coworkers and I were already full from the other things we had tried, but we couldn’t put the fork down when it came to the Street Fires. We eventually gave them away to another coworker, but I’m sure we could have devoured them if they had stayed at our table. Also, I THINK their corn tortillas are homemade?! I could be wrong, but I’ve never had store bought corn tortillas that were as thick and soft as these. If you’re in the area, the Street Fries and Famoso Taco are definitely worth a stop.

Great spot. Owner and server is extra nice. I got the question taco, the famoso taco, and a fish taco. I sat inside and while I waited the server brought me some type of soup out that was delicious. The fish taco came out first and was bigger than I expected. All the toppings are really fresh and I could definitely tell it was made to order. One bite and I was in heaven… definitely getting that again. Next up wad the other two tacos. The queso taco had a nice twist in that somehow he made cheese into a taco shell and it was done perfectly. I mean it’s gotta be hard to do without overcooking the cheese. That was good but not the best of the three. The famoso was delicious too! Carne asada and shrimp with wonderful toppings. All in all, the fish tacos trumped them all! This place is definitely A1 in my book.

In the mood for some tacos Unilocal lead me to Famoso. As we approached Famoso I have to admit I was not to sure. It is located in an area with not all that much going on and plenty of homeless people hanging around across the street. Don’t let that stop you though. The guy at the counter was very friendly as explained the menu and took our order. He gave us a cup for some water and we sat down outside to wait for our food. Shortly after sitting down he brought out some bean soup and tortilla chips to hold us over while they prepared our meal. The bean soup was quite yummy. Our food arrived shortly afterwards. I had ordered the taco trio, which came with a pollo, carne asada, and al pastor taco along with some rice and beans on the side. There is also a number of hot sauces you can help yourself to. Everything was very flavorful and I became very full. I’d definitely recommenced this place.

Before saying too much, let me first say that the front-house service was very pleasant. This review is for the food and the food only… Perhaps the burrito I got is an outlier, but my first visit will likely be my last. Perhaps this is purely the result of being in a city with so many amazing burrito shops, but this is the first in my two years being in San Diego that I’ve thought«Nope, don’t need to go back.» I order el diablo burrito — one order can easily be split amongst two people. If the burrito were half the size + half the price… the fries seemed soggy too. One redeeming quality: i was impressed by the shrimp not being overly rubbery in texture. In reading some of the other reviews here, it seems that tacos seem to be the go-to speciality. So, perhaps I made a mistake for my first visit. All in all though, will likely be venturing elsewhere the next time a burrito craving strikes.

I was expecting a truck but this is an actual brick and mortar place. There are some stools at a counter inside and about 5 tables outside. It’s not much to look at(it’s across the street from an empty lot with homeless people camped out and next to a building being renovated) but the food is great! I got two fish tacos — one grilled and one fried but I couldn’t really tell the difference. They were both huge portions with lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream(but more like a thin crema). It was very refreshing and filling. They also gave out free chips(nothing special) and bean soup which was very flavorful. You can get a combo deal that comes with rice and beans but the rice was kind of dry so I would just stick to the tacos. The guy at the counter was very friendly. Overall, a great lunch spot.

I returned to Famoso. My prior visit was just ok, but I think they were just having an off day. My most recent experience there was 5 stars in every way. The owner was working and he was professional, courteous and efficient. The food(the 2 Famoso taco special) was terrific. Again, huge portions — only the most ravenous will even be able to finish both tacos! And this time the flavors were on point, everything cooked to perfection and loved the flavors. The owner is also talking about adding a habanero salsa to the salsa bar which I think would be great. It’s not hot enough until your eyes and nose start running!

Probably the best food I’ve had out of a truck ever! I heard the Famoso truck was stopping in my area and I was so excited to give it a try. I ordered the Famoso combo -$ 12 and Famoso churros. My toddler had the kids meal(chicken on a tortilla and cheese quesadilla). The combo includes a TJ Hot Dog, 1 street taco and 1 specialty taco. I was unsure how to order so the guy instantly recommended the chicken tacos. They were the bomb dot com. But honestly, they don’t compare to the TJ hot dog. It was bacon wrapped, topped with cilantro, onion, tomato, and mayo. Mayo! That was a first in my life and I will never eat a hot dog without mayo ever again. And I may never eat a hot dog unless it’s from this truck again. Seriously people, try the hot dog. Let’s also not forget about the cream filled churros. You get three in a order, but the cute guy in the truck snuck another one in. Yum, yum, yum and thank you! But warning, you get food coma after just one. Their menu also had carne asada fries and items featuring shrimp that I can’t wait to try next time I find them. The guys were super helpful and friendly, the truck was clean, and I’d definitely recommend this business to anyone.

So after laying in the grass and staring into the sky at balboa park, I decided I was craving churros. Random… I know. But the heart(or stomach) wants what it wants. I hop on my handy dandy Unilocal app, in search of this elusive, hot, and crispy treat. Unilocal led me here. Unilocal doesn’t lie. Unilocal never fails me. Unilocal loves me and wants the best for me. Saw some pics and saw the reviews… Bavarian cream filled churros. There’s no way it can be a bad idea. Pulled up parked, and walked inside. Remember I’m on a mission. Friendly service, got my churros super fast. And they were just amazing. Caressed every taste bud in my mouth. And healed me of my craving. Thank you Famoso.

Great spot, great tacos! Super nice guy at the counter, gave me some soup while waiting too. Disclaimer: I’m from Seattle, so I don’t have the best idea of what a good taco tastes like. But I went to a couple other taco places in San Diego, and the ones here were hands down the best tasting and were fucking huge too.

I saw the great reviews and I wanted to try this place. I visited the store location on C street. The person who took my order was really nice. He took the time to explain all the options to us, which I really liked. The food portion is definitely huge, but I would say that in terms of taste, it was okay. I got the fish tacos and the famoso taco with rice and beans. Unfortunately, I agree with some other reviews that the fish taco was a little bland. The famoso taco was alright; the beef was seasoned well, but I wasn’t a fan of the shrimp and beef combination. The rice and beans were again alright, but it had a tangy taste to it that I didn’t care for. Overall, I would say that the tacos were fine, but not amazing.

Visited the brick-and-mortar location that opened up last week on C. They’ve got their full menu, which includes their specialty tacos(2 for $ 8) and street tacos(3 for $ 10 with rice and beans). I went for the 2 specialty and got a fish taco and the California taco with carne asada. I thought the price was steep, but the tacos were enormous. The California taco is top-notch. Really good fries and meat, loaded with cheese and guac. Fish tacos are my favorite though and I thought this one was a little bland. Could’ve used more seasoning and less cabbage. I couldn’t finish both tacos anyway so I was satisfied. They’ve got a salsa bar with a mild green and red, habanero, grilled onions, radishes, jalapenos and spicy carrots. I wish they had a spicy red fish taco salsa, but the habanero was excellent, fruity and flavorful. Service was friendly and fast. They offered me a bean and pork soup while I waited, which was also pretty good.

Famoso was outside Thorn Street Brewery and I was happy it was. Awesome to have a good food option convenient. Mostly you’ll find typical street taco options(asasa, pollo, al pastor), some interesting gourmet tacos(cali taco), fish tacos, and nachos. Nothing super unique but everything we had was tasty, especially the red salsa(super spicy goodness!). The kids eat free Tuesday was a great gesture — for every adult meal ordered they hooked up a simple chicken taco and quesadilla. Which is perfect for my «plain jane» kids — typically a place will make you order that separate and charge $ 5 or so each. Not here! The food isn’t cheap($ 10 for three street tacos, $ 5 for a gourmet taco, $ 10 nachos/fries) but after the free kids meal I think it was definitely reasonably priced for a food truck.

Tacos are awesome. I usually don’t do comparative judging on food since most food live on their own merits but in this case I will compare this with the famous Tacos El Gordo. Hands down the TJ Carne Asada tacos beats TEG anyday. Famoso’s meat has more flavor and their guacamole is the real deal. TEG Carne Asada are way to smokey and sometimes bland and dry. As for the Al Pastor Famoso is very good. Every bite was bursting with flavor. I can’t tell if it is any better than TEG but I have to go back to TEG just so see. That is how good Famoso Al Pastor is. You can tell the tacos are made with the freshest ingredients. They also serve the tacos to you and have a salsa bar. There red salsa has a big kick. Downfall is that they are food truck prices which we know that can get pricey. But it is well worth it when you go home knowing you chowed down on some good food. Can’t wait for Taco Tuesday.

We had Angel and the Famoso Gourmet Taco Truck at our event at Camp Run A Mutt Kearny Mesa and it was perfect! The team arrived on time, set up, got cooking, and cleaned up when they were finished. The food was delicious! We chose 3 different selections for our guests. The Shrimp Taco, the Veggie Taco, and the Cali Taco. I had the Shrimp and Cali and both tasted fresh and well made. There was a selection of salsas and hot carrots as well. The food was made to order, which means you might have to wait a few minutes, but it is well worth it. I highly recommend Famoso for your next event, or if you see the truck at an event, swing by and try one of their tacos… it’s no wonder they’re «Famoso»!

This truck is lame. 1. Overpriced(which I guess expected with food trucks. But still lame) 2. Disorganized. 50% of the menu is blacked out. I get it. You change your menu sometimes. Whatever. But invest in a chalkboard or something. It’s seriously annoying and unattractive when I have to look at the menu and see all the stuff I could be having, but then having to settle for something else. 3. Disorganized part 2. I find one of the few things on the menu that isnt blacked out and try to order it, only to be greeted with a «Sorry were not doing that today.» Sorry but then why is it on your menu? 4. No prices on menu. Just put prices up. I never eat places where there proces aren’t outright listed. The only reason I even approached that truck was bc my husband wanted to. Not impressed. Food was pretty good(not worth the price imo.). There’s more to a place than the food. You have to feed me Jesus Christ’s famous recipe for me to let a lame experience slide. This was annoying. K bye.

Food was delicious. They delivered the food to our table at Bolt Brewery in La Mesa which was nice. A little on the pricey side for a food truck and they didn’t have several things available that were on the menu.

Got to try out this truck because they were conveniently parked INSIDE the Bolt brewery lot. They had some pretty creative tacos(although they ran out of supplies for some) and they were indeed very tasty. They brought the food to your table at least. For a taco truck in San Diego I feel they were overpriced. $ 5 for a single taco does not seem sensible, but if your drinking at a brewery where there are no other food options around then you can either run the risk of drinking on an empty stomach(need I say more?) or spend $ 15 on 3 tacos… we decided to eat. They did have some pretty good fare, I will admit… but given any other option that was more reasonable then I think they would have lost out on business. Luckily(for them) there wasn’t.

We used Famoso for catering a Poway Chamber of Commerce event last year here at KIC Restoration. The food was phenomenal and everyone raved. Last night we had our second Chamber event and of course had Famoso cook for us again. Everyone was thrilled. The entire evening there was a line full of people going back for seconds and thirds. Fresh hand-made tortillas make each taco a special treat. Our two cooks this time were Beto/Berto and Caesar, both of whom have great personalities, and were making the entire group laugh throughout the evening. Price is extremely reasonable, we paid about $ 11/head for three types of tacos, fresh guacamole, beans, chips, three salsas, chips, and serving utensils. One of the best parts is that their preparation becomes kind of like a little show. The open grill is a spectator attraction that had fans all evening. We will continue to use these guys as often as possible.

Looking for street tacos? Walk, bike, or Lyft your way up to this truck. There were only 10 food trucks at a recent North County Food Truck festival, and three proclaimed to sell some type of Mexican cuisine. Famoso was the only real street taco experience. Prices seemed to be set(colluded) between all trucks at this event and pretty much everything was $ 10. I chose the three taco plate, which included Chicken, Asada, and Al Pastor tacos. When I received my plate there were three generously loaded tacos, beans, and«Feliz Navidad» green and red tortilla chips. These were good tacos, and they didn’t skimp on any of the ingredients. The tortilla was at maximum capacity. — Solid 3.5 — Green and Red tortilla chip, no thanks.

I had an after office pint at Hess Brewery in North Park last week and ‘Famoso’ had their food truck conveniently set up in the back. I was starving and what better a perfect compliment to a delicious beer than Mexican food! Pretty awesome that they had even the condiments station built into the truck. Pretty friendly service, chatted it up with the cashier for a bit. Ended up ordering the ‘Street Fries,’ which if I remember correctly, was basically like a carne asada fries kind of plate, but instead of carne asada, it was some seasoned, shredded pork that was even crispy. Plenty of delicious flavors and if you add some red onion, cilantro, lime and picante to it, you will not be disappointed! I ended up eating a spicy interior part of a red chili pepper, somewhere in the plate and burned my mouth for a couple of minutes… was sweatin it out no joke. Beer wasn’t helping even haha, but eventually it subsided. Watch out for those! Otherwise, delicious options, a bit on the pricier side of Mexican food, but perhaps that’s the convenience of it coming from a food truck. Good to know they do catering too!

Taco Taco Taco I tried all of the types of street taco from this food truck and I was blown away. Its not truck/street food — it was literally gourmet. I was floored at the size, flavor, and presentation. The carne asada tacos were only surpassed by the chorizo taco which was easily the best taco I can ever remember eating.
