I sought out private tutoring after considering GRE classes. I’m glad I went with private tutoring since I prefer the one-​on-​one learning experience. Vince was such a wonderful resource when it came to studying for the GRE. I was so grateful for his knowledge and guidance when it came to preparing for the exam. He was very patient and happily answered any questions or concerns I had. Even though I didn’t end up taking the GRE (was accepted to a program that didn’t require it) I still find myself using the techniques Vince taught me.

Brian is truly one of the best tutors around. My daughter worked with him on standardized testing and, in a very short time, Brian was able to raise her score significantly. With only two months to study for a score improvement on the GMAT I sought the help and guidance of an experienced tutor. As an average math student all throughout school, I needed to improve my score in the Quantitative section. Brian Mcelroy not only has years of experience on the GMAT (he retakes the exam every couple months!!!) but he also clearly explained quick and concise ways to attack problems that I had trouble with. I felt a lot more confident with the exam after he showed me the right tips for studying and interpreting complex GMAT math problems. I ended up improving my score significantly and getting into the MBA program I was hoping for!

I really wanted to go back to school, but was pretty terrified of the GRE (particularly the quantitative section) and knew I needed a tutor. After researching a few of the tutoring companies in San Diego, McElroy seemed like a smart choice. They had really good reviews, a well designed and informative website, and a variety of tutors in my area. I called and within 20 minutes Brian returned my call. We talked for a bit about my budget, weakest areas academically, and even where I saw my career going. It seems like they really take the time to find the right match.
He told me he thought Vince would be the best fit, so I set up an initial session with Vince for a few days later. I could tell immediately that he takes the job very seriously and is really dedicated to his students. We decided on an initial amount of classes and schedule, with the possibility of adding on more if needed. He suggested I take a practice GRE test to get an idea of what I needed to work on. So, I went home to do that and… yikes! I actually left about half the quantitative section blank because I had zero clue how to even attempt the questions. So sad.
Vince and I worked together almost every week last summer. He’s a very witty guy, great dry humor. Again, he definitely takes the job very seriously and gets to know his students’ individual strengths and weaknesses well. Not only did he help me learn the material, he also taught me HOW to study. Maybe I forgot, maybe I never really knew, but that might be the most important thing I got from working with him, especially now that I am going back to school.
I ended up really improving my scores and got into some great programs. All in all, money extremely well spent. Thanks McElroy and Vince!

Our daughter worked with Vince in 2011. He helped her decide which of the two (ACT or SAT) tests to take and then prepared her. She scored a 32 the first time, and a 34 the second time she worked with Vince on improving her ACT score. He was professional and was flexible with scheduling appointments. He was also attentive to the costs. I would recommend Vince as a worthwhile tutor.

I found Vince Kotchian on Unilocal last June. I planned on taking the GRE in September, so I only had three solid months to tackle studying for the exam.
Vince is calm, thoughtful, and brilliant. He helped me to master the intricacies of the writing portion of the exam, and gave me the confidence I needed to do well on the qualitative section. If you’re looking for SAT/​ACT/​GRE/​GMAT tutoring– this is the place to go! In high school I had tried one of those group SAT classes and it did not help me at all. I was always a good student, but standardized testing was a bit more tough for me. When I decided to apply to graduate programs and take the GRE I searched for a private tutor and stumbled upon the website for McElroy Tutoring. It was the best thing I could have done at the time! I began weekly tutoring the 6 weeks leading up to my exam and ended up scoring better than I could have imagined. I credit my GRE score for many of my admissions (including George Washington University!), and I could not have done it without McElroy.
I worked with Vince (which was absolutely great), but also saw some of the other tutors in action and they were equally dedicated. What was different about McElroy was the one-​on-​one attention and the tutoring methods. During my SAT classes I remember sitting there bored out of my mind, in a classroom of 30 students or so, and being fed information. Vince broke down the information when necessary (i.e. when I forgot how to calculate the volume of a cylinder), but he really focused on teaching me how to TAKE the test. He taught me how to read the questions and the answers from the minds of the writers of the test.
I am currently in the middle of my Master’s at NYU and I really don’t think I could have got here without the help of McElroy tutoring. If you’re looking for a tutor, look no further!

I had two months to study for the GRE and had no math and little test taking skills. Vince helped me dramatically improve my abilities. Very pleased with using Vince to help our student prepare for SAT /​ACT. He focused on what he had to work with and how much time he had to get it done. He made every hour spent in preparation efficient. We were floundering before we hooked up with Vince. The results were excellent and the price was very fair.
