Mama’s is something special. They offer a lot of traditional Mexican meals you have a hard time finding under one roof. The inside is darker and quiet. Once I saw the huaraches asada with nopales and the chicharron gorditas, it was a no brainer. The horchata was fresh with nice cinnamon. The huaraches was amazing. The nopales bring this dish to the highest level. So much great flavors and textures coming together in this dish. The gordita comes out looking perfect. The chicharrons are the prize in this dish, but everything tastes great. Mama’s has 2 talented women running this place. They take great pride in their food and don’t take short cuts. The food takes longer than the norm. The wait is well worth it, with Mama’s food crushing the norm. Can’t wait to come back and try their sopas and pambazos. Simply put, Mama’s gonna knock you out.

SD Local — Hands down the best veggie burrito. You really can’t get anything more authentic than Mamas kitchen in San Diego. Veggie burrito — ***5/5 *** the rice was super fluffy and the beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole had so much flavor. The size wasn’t as big as other«typical» taco shops but it filled me up perfectly. Atmosphere — ***5/5 *** it’s super small, quaint, colorful and full of character. Set up like someone’s house, you sure feel like you’re a guest of Mama.

We were looking for tacos one night, just Unilocaling the night away, when we stumbled upon what we thought was tacos el compita. It seemed decent, but little did we know tacos el compita would be transformative to the soul — in the form of Mama’s Kitchen. Oh there is not much that words can say about the authenticity and flavors being concocted in Mama’s Kitchen. I’ll get into those later, but for those capable of making it to this fine establishment, you will have dined at the most authentic Mexican spot this side of the river. Let’s get on with the food shall we? Tacos. Enchiladas. Tamales. I’ve posted pictures of the menu(s) though they can change as Mama deems it, and that’s ok. That’s the magic. But whatever they do(and it could be the main Mama doing it all, I’ve only ever seen two gracious, kind and friendly ladies working) it’s been delicious. Prime of it all are the tacos. The carnitas especially. It’s a million times better than the famous San Diego Carnitas Snack Shack, as it is juicy and moist with every bite. The carne asada and chicken are just the same, cooked on the spot for each taco and delicious. And the Tacos de Papa(potato) are crispy but full of flavor, not dry at all. Top them off with a little red and a little green salsa, for a lovely kick. All come with fresh authentic guac. Simple, but the best I’ve had since my days in Monterrey Mexico. Oh and the tortillas are just the right thickness, freshly made(not heated, made). I’ll leave it there, but FYI the enchiladas are also great. We would be back weekly but I have a wedding suit to fit in in a few weeks. But I will be ordering a large batch of tamales for the hangover after. This is truly a Mexican Mama’s Kitchen… if you are craving amazing tacos or any other Mexican food, please make sure you try this spot. You won’t regret it. PS: The neighborhood(Logan Heights) may seem shady but it isn’t. People are friendly. The restaurant has a great authentic Mexican feel seating area inside too. Don’t let assumptions stop you from eating here.

Everything here is 100% authentic. With starters, the place itself really visually takes you back to Mexico. The menu from wall to wall varies from tamales, to sea food, to sopes, to chilaquiles, to even a cheeseburger with fries. When I was told this place sold pambazos I had to come check it out, I’ve been living in San Diego for over 10 years and by far these are the best and closest thing to pambazos from Mexico City. And if you still have room for dessert, you have a a big fridge full of paletas heladas, or flan. Personally for me, the first thing I can tell about an authentic Mexican place is judging by their salsas. These salsas are on point. This place is good for vegetarians, you can customize certain guisados with out meat very easily.

I’m surprised this place only has 1 review lol. My bf was craving for pambazos so he found this place online. I was a little hesitant, but the pictures looked good so off we went. The place is located in a residential area so it was a little hard to see. We ordered one pambazo and huaraches to share. Both items tasted really good and authentic. There were a lot of items on the menu displayed on the wall, but he doesn’t think that everything would be available on a daily basis. He asked for some kind of strawberry drink and they weren’t serving that on the day we went. You order your food at the window and they let you know when it’s ready. I’m glad there was a dining area for us to enjoy the food! The prices for everything on their menu was super cheap! On our way out, there was a guy selling ice cream in a cart. We used our change to try the chamoy flavored Lucas popsicle. It was delish!

BEST street tacos I’ve had in San Diego(and I’ve eaten at a lot of taco shops)! They make their own handmade tortillas fresh daily, as well as their own salsas, tacos, soups, and much more! The horchata is bomb and the corn tortillas that come with the tacos and soups are so soft and buttery! All their homemade salsas and guacamole are delicious. Their carne asada huarache is also amazing. I can’t speak highly enough of this place! This hidden gem is in the middle of a bunch of houses. It’s a little mom and pop shop, and the owners are incredibly sweet and hospitable. You order at either window(inside or outside) and if you eat there, someone will bring it to your table. I have two friends from Mexico who come here when they’re craving food that reminds them of home. If you want authentic Mexican food, you need to come here!
