Definitely hit or miss… I live just around the corner so it’s convenient and it’s cheap and greasy: my two main selling points. I ordered carne Asada fries and five rolled tacos(don’t judge me, I was hungry) and when I got home, there was a toothpick in my rolled tacos. I called and told the guy at the counter(who was rude to begin with when I got there) and he told me that’s how he holds the rolled tacos together when fried. Yeah… that has NEVER happened to me in the 30 years that I’ve been consuming rolled tacos, especially ones you take from the freezer and throw in a fryer. Disgusting. I guess I’ll be finding another Mexican food place that’s waking distance away.

Some of the best carne asada fries I’ve had in San Diego! The fries are crispy, thin, perfectly cooked spuds. The meat isn’t as good as Lolita’s, but hey the rest of the toppings are too legit to quit. The hot sauce is top notch and super spicy so beware.

Great food! Red sauce that comes in the bag is wicked spicy(which is a good thing). The 5 rolled taco setup is great… guac is the real deal. My wife loves the Veggie and California Burritos. Cash only and 24Hours!

While me and my wife were house hunting this was our go to spot. Only thing sucks is going at night and dealing with the crack heads sometimes outside so take to go. Other then that its hard to mess up fast food mexican so give it a try for a quick burrito.

Solid Solid Solid! This place has some solid MX food. I’ve always seen this place by but never made the effort to check it out and I’m glad Nick B took the gang here after a bar crawl to sober up. I wasn’t unsure on what to order, this place has been on my radar for quite some time and I knew exactly what I wanted«SPECIALQUESADILLA». Brad B once told me about this magical quesadilla that really isn’t a quesadilla, it’s more like a QuesaBurrito. What you get is 2 flour tortillas with cheese in between then all that gets rolled on a Carne Asado Burrito!!! YES!!! Freaking juicy freaking messy freaking awesome. The meat is sooo freaking good and well marinated and super juicy. The salsas are great and super hot, next day I could walk straight and regretted every time I used the WC but it was worth it. I also nibbled on some rolled tacos my Wife had and they were solid and flavorful. Nice parking and they take Credit cards. Only bad thing is no drive thru but that’s ok… It’s been a few weeks since that«Special Quesadilla» but I’ll definitely return for more.

I tried this place because it was right next to cvs. I ordered a carne asada burito w/side of rice and beans, and a california burito w/no pico… okay first off the person working was sooo rude. Second, he handed me my bag and i asked where the rice and beans were and he said«in the burito» un ok??? U want to make me a new one? No, guess not as he just turned around. Once I got home my carne asada burito was cold and had lettuce in it(never had anywhere put lettuce) and the other burito had pico. Okay, so their rude, get your order wrong, expensive, and food was nasty. NOTHANKS!

So according to reviews and as far as the stories go, La Posta is popular due to it being the premier location for a quick Mexican food craving after a night of heavy drinking with friends. An ideal place for that California burrito for you and your drunk friends when the beer-munchies kick in. I’d like to tell you that my story is different. but…well.it isn’t. True to form, we all stopped here after a long night of celebratory drinking. Assault the stomach after assaulting the liver just seems like a good idea. Well it did at the time, as it always does. Additionally, I hadn’t had a California Burrito in… well…forever. Seriously, I don’t think I had ever had a California Burrito. Wait, that can’t be right, can it? Anyway… So I’m pretty sure it’s cash only but honestly didn’t pay attention. I like to carry cash because I hate losing cards. Sure enough, based on recommendation, I went with a California Burrito. Probably took about 7 – 10 minutes in drunken«time travel» minutes… but it’s hard to recall. I think it has something to do with Einstein’s theory of relativity but I can’t be too sure. Either way, it wasn’t an agonizing wait. Was it a wise decision? Yes. Yes it was. The California Burrito is pretty damn sizable. I’d say most people would be more than content with the overall mass of the meal. Tortilla, guacamole, fries, meat… it’s all good to go here. It was delicious and I think I even got some guacamole on my shoes… don’t remember that happening but sure enough, it was there in the morning. Truth be told, I almost wanted to eat another one, but alas, I didn’t. Moderation I suppose, right? So I’m a fan. It’s hard not to be when you feel like you’re starving and you want a massive amount of food to curb that craving after a long night of memorable as well as forgettable moments resulting from a night of drinking with your friends. Even with that said, I can’t really say there is anything wrong with this place, the food portions are quite generous, they’re open 24 hours, the pricing is about on par with anything you’d encounter anywhere else and let’s face it, that stuff just hits the spot when it needs to. Is that good enough, guys? Well it’s good enough for me.

24/7, my ass. I went and a really rude man behind the counter told me they were closed. Hm. Your hours are 24⁄7 and your open sign is on. Wasn’t apologetic at all. Wouldn’t give this place my business.

Hands down THEBEST taco shop in the city. Whenever I move apartments I ensure I am within biking distance to La Posta. A chicken taco is $ 2 and comes with lettuce and lots of cheese and two tubs of their super hot sauce. My mouth is watering right now. Everything is reasonably priced. The carne asada fries are a gut busting, sleep inducing slice of heaven. The breakfast burritos are huge and a great way to start the day. It’s great after a bar crawl to top off the night with your buddies with a burrito and sit at a table outside and watch the cast of characters come by. Parking is spotty.

Late night and the bf is craving carne asada fries, good thing for La Posta. We called ahead to place the order and was told it would be 5 minutes. The fries were all ready to go when we arrived. These fries were delicious! The carne asada was a little greasy, but that’s what makes it better. The fries were topped with guac, sour cream, and cheese. We ate every last bite of it! The place is just like any old taco shop, but the fact that it’s open 24 hours is a huge place. There is a couple of outdoor tables(with some interesting characters) or you can just take the food to go, which is what we did. I’m glad this place is close by to satisfy my late night/early morning Mexican food cravings. Not many places in SD are open 24 hours, so it’s good to know the spots that are.

THEGOOD: Small place, fast service, with all the taco shop necessities. Not pricey and not stingy at all. You will get your moneys worth. They give you all the trimmings and don’t charge extra. Located in a really convenient spot for suburban dweller’s. THEBAD: Didn’t love the overwhelming flavor of the fries. Strange I know but it was like I had fries with a hint of all the toppings. All the toppings were there and they were plentiful but there wasn’t enough flavor to the toppings to take the dish over the top. Lastly there is no indoor seating. ALLINALL: Meh! Not bad, not great. Stop if its all you see but no need to seek it out.

Wow. I cannot recommend this place. «I just ordered a vegan burrito for take out and brought it home… it was full of cheese» «well, what do you want to do?» «I would like a burrito with no cheese no sour cream, can I pick it up now?» «.well bring back the burrito we made you for an exchange. You can’t get one unless you bring that one back» «An exchange? It wasn’t the right thing and I already gave it away, I couldn’t eat it» «…if you want you can bring it back and we’ll give you another one» For REAL? I pay $ 6 for a VEGAN burrito and it isn’t even what I got… then he wants me to BRINGITBACK!!! WTF. They mess up the order and there wasn’t even a line, I was the only person there. Unbelievable. Worst service ever.

La Posta stole my heart as soon as I moved from Clairemont to Mission Hills. My OG taco spot was Roberto’s but since my arrival to the southern(better) half of SD I have frequented La Posta WAYYYYYY more times than Unilocal gives me check in credit for. Ever since my arrival in SD I have been sold on California Burrito’s. When done right, they will change your life forever and will ensure you never leave the city for very long. When they aren’t done right, you become infuriated. There is nothing worse than trying to quell that craving for a decadent burrito stuffed with crunchy freedom fries and carne asada, only to be let down with a soggy mess of imperfection and discontent. I went out on a limb the first time I came to La Posta and ordered a carne asada cali with bacon… yes, bacon. They knocked it out of the park. I was so impressed that I begged my intoxicated mind to remember how delicious this place was so that I would come back the following night. Great news! I remembered! PS. Their Pollo Asada is awesome as well. As for everything else on the menu, I’ve tried quite a bit and nothing leaves me feeling dissatisfied. In fact, I’ll order a spare taco with my burrito, because 2,500 calories isn’t enough in one sitting. They used to only take cash, but have since fixed that problem by throwing in a debit machine. BOMB! If you’re really putting one on that night, the liquor store right behind La Posta has a decent selection of booze at a fair price. Nothing better than a bottle of tequila, a Cali burrito and a spare crunchy taco. #WIN.

Local — Veggie burrito– I was pretty happy! :) Good veggie burritos are surprisingly hard to find. The rice was fluffy and full of flavor and so was the rice. What I really enjoyed was that the rice and beans were really hot while the lettuce, pico de gallo and salsa were really cold. Every bite had this really cool contrast and since veggie burritos are relatively simple, things little things go a long way. Atmosphere– Parking is limited but other than that I thought the atmosphere was pretty sweet. It’s very Cali. Bright colors, outside tables, window service. etc plus the staff was super friendly. Most importantly my dog could sit outside with me, score!

Though it wasn’t the best burrito I’ve ever had, it satiated my Mexican food craving. This little Mexican food joint is somewhat in its own location. Though it is in a plaza with other stores, there’s literally nothing surrounding it, so I guess an «island» would be a better term to use. There is seating that is outside only because inside the shop is solely where they cook and take orders(through a window, which isn’t drive thru). There are minimal parking spots, but there is also street parking. Since I came around 10:30PM on a random Monday night, there wasn’t much of a line. It’s pretty much in the Hillcrest area, and I go to Hillcrest a lot, and I’ve never noticed this place. I got a California burrito, which comes with pico de gallo, but removed it. It was about $ 7(card fee included!) The price wasn’t too bad, and it was a pretty big burrito. I must say, it was quite tasty. As I mentioned, it wasn’t the best burrito, but it wasn’t bad at all. The hot sauce that came with it completed it, and was actually pretty spicy. I have no complaints about my food. I am a Mexican food fanatic, so I must say, this place did a good job. Not to mention, the worker that helped me was nice.

Last night La Posta changed my life. I’ve seen it for years and years but either never dined here or don’t remember dining here — alcohol, man. It’s a biotch. So what’s so SPECIAL and mind-blowing? Keep reading, friends! Okay, take a look at the menu and it looks just like any other corner taco shop. Burritos, tacos and combo plates. We’re not here for any of that though. What we’ve come for is something SPECIAL and can be found under the quesadilla section. The description in beyond vague and unless you are with someone who knows the drill, you’d probably skip right past it. So what is it?! Glad you asked! Picture this: two tortillas kissed by the flattop grill with melted cheese between them then wrapped around carne asada, guacamole and more cheese. Yes, a burrito with a quesadilla as the vessel for the filling rather than your plain flour tortilla! Get cray-cray and add what you want to this bad boy. Maybe some fries, pico, rice or beans? The possibilities are endless! So why no five stars? The rolled tacos were awful and were much more tortilla than filling…

My coworker and I were in quite a hurry for lunch when working in the Hillcrest area, La Posta De Acapulco’s has been on a list for me to stop by and try. This place is basically the epitome of hole in the wall San Diego taco shop. The little shack which sits off third ave is located in a busy area of Hillcrest with little to no parking, however there are some spots right next to the restaurant. Open everyday at every hour, La Posta( ) serves up your typical fare of SD Mexican slop shop food from a little window with fading red paint. There is no inside seating as its an outside location only, the tables are quite dirty. This place use to be cash only, but just recently it appears they have started taking credit cards with an added 60 cent fee( ), they do have a ATM sitting outside but it looked quite beat up from the weather. Not knowing what to quite try here, because a burrito seemed a bit too much for lunch, I gave their pollo asado plate a spin. The line for ordering was quite long for lunch time, but our orders managed to come out quite quickly. I had asked the guy behind the window for a lot of hot sauce and was only met with two smaller to medium sized little plastic cups of it. The plate( ) consisted of pollo meat, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce, rice, beans and three corn tortillas. My order came out to be quite larger than I imagined, great deal for the money. The chicken here was very tender and moist with a bit of grill marks on the outside. I really enjoyed the pollo asado here, it was flavorful, not dry and they give you plenty of it. Guacamole and pico de gallo were spot on as well, the guac was the real deal with small bits of avocado chunks in it still, not too creamy or watery. Beans and rice had lots of flavor and went well with the food along with a bit of shredded cheese on top. I’m not sure they make the corn tortillas on site, but they were warm, soft and great at scooping up the food. It’s too bad they didn’t give me more of their hot sauce, the sauce here is delicious stuff. I’m sure they don’t give out too much because its so addicting, they want you to come back and order more. La Posta De Acapulco didn’t let me down for some Mexican food for lunch, I wonder how the rest of their menu stacks up. The only thing that wasn’t cool about this place was the seating area outside, it was dirty and there were several people begging you for money while you’re trying to eat, very unpleasant. Not sure if this location relates to the one in Spring Valley, but both of these places are quite good.

I love ordering their individual Carne Asada fries… All for me, not sharing. It’s so close to my house too. I like this place better than Los Ponchos down the street. Come at your own risk though… This little cute shack is always crowded with interesting unique people HA! Be careful when u get their hot sauce cz it’s on fiyaahhh! Aaannnd if you’re too drunk & need Gatorade, u can walk 10steps to the liquor store, or if you threw up all over your clothes, walk 10 more steps to the laundry mat. If you’re a huge mess and need help… Walk a block to the hospital! so convenient!

This 24 hut in the middle of Hillcrest was good. There isn’t much to it and you probably drive by it all the time and never notice it. If I wasn’t drunkly dragged here, I would have never thought twice about stopping by. I had a California burrito. Which, in itself is something I don’t usually get. It’s a burrito, with french fries, so that’s what makes it Californian. Whatever. I ordered it. I ate it. I loved it. I don’t know if it was the Vodka loving it or me because I can’t say for certain that I have ever had it sober or if I would be willing to even try it without a drink in my system. My partner in crime had carne asada fries. YUMMERS. You know what? That was a great little stop all around. And for it to be 24 hours? Yes. I approve. Ok. I see you little taco hut. Little sketchy taco hut. You do look kinda sketch. Luckily it was muy bueno.

YUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! Has La Posta become my favorite Mexican joint in Hillcrest?! I think YES! Ok, so it ain’t much to look at but I’ll tell you what, the food they pump outta there is DE-LISH! I got the crispy shredded beef taco combo(duh) and it was love at first sight. The taco shells were perfectly crispy, not broken and not dripping with fryer grease! Hooray! The flavor of the shredded beef was on point and the green salsa I smothered them in was amazing! It’s cash only but they have conveniently placed an ATM right in front so I never stress about having cash on me when I stop by. The only downside(and it’s not even that bad) is that they have some pretty interesting, oftentimes homeless people consistently hanging out at the tables outside. So grab some cash from the ATM and, while you are anxiously anticipating the arrival of your sure to be delicious order, sit and listen to someone have a conversation with them self. Always a good time!
