I am crazy about food trucks, so you cannot imagine my delight when I came across this great find. The first time I found them, they were parked in some business area. Can’t remember where exactly but I had looked for them via twitter. There was a line, and some of the customers seemed to be regulars because she knew their orders! lol. When it comes to Vietnamese sandwiches, I always get the grilled pork, so of course I got the Hoangie Oink. I had it with a fried egg, but only on one half of the sandwich since I wasn’t too sure if I’d like it. OHMYGOD. I don’t know how I ever went without! The combination of the sweet tender pork, slightly runny fried egg, and pickled daikon with fresh veggies, it was pure perfection. Definitely the best pork banh mi sandwich I’d ever had. The second time I went looking for them, they were parked behind 57 Degrees wine bar along with other food truck vendors. This time I tried the Hoangie Tofu. It’s really easy to mess up tofu, but it was extremely flavorful, and I loved the panko crust on it. I wanted to try the HO-Balls, but they were already sold out for the night. I cannot wait to come back to San Diego and try another sandwich from their menu. It’s just so good!!!

Solid Vietnamese food! Extra star for the excellent customer service – Jenny you rock! I had the egg rolls(thank you mama Hoang for the real deal), and tacos(they ran out of sandwiches), Thai iced tea and iced coffee. The drinks were a tad sweet for my taste(I am not a sugar lover) but overall had excellent flavor and I loved it all. I would go back in heart beat! We enjoyed them being at the Lost Abbey Anniversary party and I can’t wait to try the as sandwiches next time! Hoangie’s you’ve got a new follower! Thank you for bringing delicious Asian flavors to the food truck circuit!

Eat the Oink! It is so tasty, I scarfed up every bite. I am a big fan of pig meat. Or you could go big and add a fried egg like my husband did. He says«everything is better with an egg on it» He is a bahn mi aficionado and loved his sandwich. Egg rolls were great. Crisp, savory and perfectly seasoned. Super great duo working the truck. If I was wealthy, I would surprise them with a whisper quiet generator. They had to park a little away from the rest of the food trucks since theirs is noisy. That’s OK since their food is GREAT!

OK, they got me! Came back with every intention to order something different off the menu but that Hoangie Oink sandwich is a tough one to pass up once you have tried it. This time I added a fried egg!

Hi Unilocal Friends! On our usual food truck search we found Hoangie’s. This is the second time we got food from them. Our first experience was great, but the food this time was as Shirley would say«meh». First of all, Jenny who takes the orders was super nice as always. This is why we come back for more. The prices are kinda high, but I guess you’re paying for convenience. A banh mi is $ 7-$ 10, which would normally be $ 3 – 5 at other places. The first time we got the Hoangie tofu banh mi. Since it was fried, Shirley was all over it. It was very tasty, but I think they put a little too much spicy aioli sauce. Overall tasty. I don’t like a lot of bread, too much carbs for me, but it was nicely toasted. We liked it so much that we kept eating and forgot to take a picture. Today’s choice was the Hoangie chicken banh mi(sandwhich photo attached, no baby cameo). This one was disappointing. The chicken and bread were dry. Shirley only ate half the sandwich… sad Since these are two different food experiences, we are gonna give it another shot. Until our next review, Babies out!

Probably one of my favorite food trucks in San Diego, the service is super friendly and fast. Not your typical price of $ 3-$ 5 banh mi. Each sammich is between $ 8 to $ 10. It’s $ 1 extra to add a fried egg. AND just your basic variety of meat selection: pork, chicken, beef, spam. There’s also a tofu one for vegetarians or people that just like tofu.

These guys serve great sandwiches! I’m a firm believer that you can determine how good a sandwich is by the bread that’s used and I’m super pleased that Hoangie’s uses real baguettes. I like the fresh vegetables that go into the sandwich as well, particularly the cilantro! The aioli that they use really adds panache and livens up the sandwiches in an interesting way. If you want to shake things up, you can also get slider versions which I really love too. The woman who takes the orders, Jenny, is a sweet, amiable lady. She’ll make you feel welcome every time that you visit. I think the only complaint I’ve heard from my weekday lunch crew is the pricing. It’s a bit on the high end but I’ve always been the type to shell out extra when I know that the meal I’m getting is going to be delicious.

I wanted to love this place because 1. They’re Vietnamese. 2. It’s a food truck and 3. I was craving some good banh mi. Banh mi is $ 8!!! Is it me or is that a lot for some banh mi? Because it was so pricey, I went with the cheaper option to see if the food was even good. I tried the steak sliders and was glad I didn’t spend more money here. The buns were dry and had that microwaved texture. The steak was dry and lacked flavor. The service was really good, though! The person at the window was really nice. I would give her a 5⁄5 for customer service. Based on other reviews, maybe it’s the steak that needs improvement? Oh Hoangie’s food truck… why did you disappoint me so?

I don’t eat at the food trucks… because they are always a disappointment! However, today was one of those days when I just couldn’t face the lunch I brought and I couldn’t leave the office. I checked our truck schedule and it was Hoangie’s …Hmm Ok, I’m definiately a sandwich person but I have NEVER tried a Banh Mi… and I lived down the street from K Sandwiches FOREVER with everyone telling me to give them a try. I’m just not that adventurous when it comes to food. But today I made up my mind to just go and try it. Looked up the menu and walked outside knowing I was going to get the Moo. The cashier immediately knew I had never been there before, which told me right off the bat she was a great cashier and very personable… she made sure i was comfortable with everything on it and since I was throwing caution to the wind I said go for it. Simply the sandwich is amazing, the veggies are crispy and delicious… love love love the fresh jalapenos! The spicey aioli is perfect! The meat was tender and not fatty. The bread had just the right crust and crunch to it! Love it! So it’s $ 10, I was expecting half of what they handed over to me to be honest and for me it’s easy two lunchs that I don’t have to make or go pick up somewhere… saving me time and hassle. I don’t ususally write reviews. but they deserve it! Good job!

While at work, my husband called me and told me that this truck was parked in front of his work and he wanted me to come over to join him and try this food truck out. I was all about it and 5 minutes later, we were waiting in line. I had the chicken banh mi and my husband had the pork belly banh mi, they were both delicious. I wasn’t crazy about the price since we can get a 1-foot banh mi just 3 miles away, but wanted to give this food truck a try anyway. The daikon in my banh mi tasted like it was freshly pickled and the sandwich was nice and hot. I had a thai iced tea to wash it all down and even that was a delight. I’m all about supporting food trucks, so I had to add this truck to my list. By the way, great customer service and we didn’t have to wait too long for our food!

The service here was amazing! The lady who took my order was super friendly. The Iced Coffee was really good. But the reason why I am giving them such a low rating is due to the fact that I did not like their Bahn Mi sandwich at all. I was deeply disappointed by the«steak», the meat was mushy and looked like someone else had pre-chewed it for me. The flavor was ok, but I could not get past the weird texture and the odd chunks. Love the people, but not the food.

We tried Hoangie’s at Liberty Station’s Tribute Fest. We had the chicken bahn mi extra spicy. They must be the friendliest food truck on the planet thanks to Jenny. The chicken was tender and it was indeed extra spicy. Whenever I eat habanero I get the hiccups and this got me going. I would’ve preferred extra veggies they were a bit light on the sandwich and missed the crunch they provide. The bread seemed a bit stale… Minor nitpicks, overall it was a tasty sandwich.

Walked over to try this truck today because I was in a banh mi mood. It was $ 8 for a tofu sandwich!!! Granted the sandwich was huge and filling, I’ve had better $ 2 banh mi sandwiches for sure. I get that food trucks are sometimes expensive, but $ 3 for a small iced coffee and $ 8-$ 10 for sandwiches? Wow!!! The sandwich was tasty, and I enjoyed the mushroom pâté. The bread was ok and the toppings were good. Alas, I probably won’t choose this as a lunch option when I know there is cheaper and better out there.

I ran into this food truck randomly one day, and have been coming back for more ever since. The Moo and Oink sandwiches are amazing, the vegetables are so fresh, and the bread is super tasty. It all comes together for an amazing lunch that keeps me happy for the remainder of the afternoon. Oh, and did I mention the egg rolls? They are out of this world! Better than any restaurant, and I’ve been to a lot of Viet restaurants. To top it all off, they are some of the most friendly people I have met. Definitely worth checking out!

Wow! Fresh quality, fast service, and deeeelicious! Imagine having the most fresh Phở you’ve ever tasted. Now put that on a bun. Ta-dah! That’s the best way I can describe Hoangie’s Food Truck. If only they had places like this where I live. Subway doesn’t even come close!

3.5 stars I have been looking forward to trying Hoangies ever since I heard that there would be a Vietnamese food truck. Fortunately, we noticed them across the street from our building the other day. I had the banh bao moo sliders(you get 3) and my husband had the hoangie oink(see pics). I love banh bao and these were pretty good. Everything that usually comes on their banh mi comes in the banh bao slider. I had mine without the jalapeño or cucumber(I did order it with cucumber, but I think they left it off because my hubby ordered his sandwich w/o cucumber). The peppered steak was very good, but the spicy aioli was just too spicy for me. I think the amount on the sliders was more than what they actually put on the banh mi. I could only eat 2 because it was too spicy. When I ate half of the hoangie oink, it wasn’t spicy at all(which I preferred). The pork was pretty good and the sandwich is big. The sandwiches are $ 7 – 9, so don’t expect to pay only $ 3 for banh mi. My husband’s sandwich had one jalapeño in it(even though he asked for no jalapenos) and he said that did not taste good at all. The service was very friendly and quick. It was probably one of the fastest turn around times at a food truck for me. I think we would try Hoangies again, but be sure to bring cash. They only let you use a credit card if you spend $ 20 or more.

I spent a month in Viet Nam in search of the world’s best vegetarian Bahn Mi. OK, so that wasn’t the exclusive reason for my visit, but it was certainly a contributing factor. Who knew that I didn’t even have to leave California to find it?! The tofu bahn mi was STELLAR. It was more viet-fusion, as traditional bahn mi doesn’t have the mushroom pâté… but it SHOULD. The vegetables were so fresh — the cucumber and cilantro both tasted as though the chef had just picked them as the food truck drove past. The tofu was fried perfectly and provided a nice heartiness to the light sandwich. I’ve found that vegetarian bahn mi often has a profound lack of protein — usually just vegetables — but the fried tofu provided the missing link. The mushroom pâté added a depth of flavor and added some«meat» to the sandwich. The jalapeño added a really nice spice, but it wasn’t over the top. They’ll give you a side of sriracha upon request. Aside from the fact that they made phenomenal food, the food truck owners are friendly, sweet, and gracious. Jenny, the owner, has such an enthusiasm for the food and for the customers, it’s honestly contagious. I cannot wait to go back.

So… Bahn Mi can often cost 3 bucks or so… even if they are on the smaller size. So when I see 7 to 9 bucks, I was skeptical. But I am always open for trying a new food truck. The peppered steak(Hoangie Moo) with a fried egg on top was very tasty. The crunchy strips of carrot, cucumber, jalapeño and cilantro were good toppings for tender but chunky cuts of beef. The egg added a necessary gooey-ness. But the star of the show for me are the egg rolls… which were fantastic. The bun was fresh and the size of the sandwich was large enough to cut in two… so larger than most bahn mi buns. They have chicken, beef, pork and tofu… I look forward to trying the others.

Really friendly people, their food was great. Let’s give them a bunch of business, this is an up-and-coming food truck, so let’s get them rolling! DEFINITELY try the HOANGIEMOOO&OINKK :)
