Cute spot, excellent customer service and the food was soooo good! Sandwiches and salads are delicious and great sizes including amount of what they put in the sandwich.

This place is by far my new favorite sandwich place in Hillcrest, and dare I say it, all of San Diego. They have so many amazing sandwiches and salads to choose from it gets difficult. My #1 favorite has to be the French Dip because of all the lean roast beef that they generously provided. My boyfriend got the Turkey in the Garden and couldn’t finish it(which he usually can.) HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHISPLACE!

Probably my favorite deli from here to S.F. Always fresh, I could eat the Cabrillo on fashioned black bread everyday. The family who owns and works here are so sweet and serves the best sandwiches. Different and fresh soups daily plus they deliver! Check out the lunch ½ sandwich combo, if you want more than just a sandwich for a great price!

Adore this sandwich shop! I had the turkey in the garden for $ 7.95. It was delicious, fresh and loaded with avocado, sprouts and freshly sliced meat + cheese. I had trouble ordering as I was so indecisive. Everything sounded good. Both hot and cold sandwiches with great options for vegetarians and meat lovers. Chip selection is on point. Drink selection also on point. The woman who runs the shop is so welcoming and nice. Ordering was really easy and substitutions like bread or omitting a spread were no problem. There is limited seating inside but as a sandwich place you’re usually getting take out and orders to-go. We actually sat at a table my first time and enjoyed our decker sandwiches inside. I never finish my sandwich and found myself not only finishing this sandwich but completely satisfied. We waited a solid 10 minutes for our order but it was so worth it. Here on out I call ahead and pick up. Any time I’m in SD, I make it a lunch note to stop by Hill Crest. I recommend everything on their menu as I haven’t had a bad sandwich here yet!

I live around the corner and never made it to this gem until today. It is amazing! I’m a huge sandwich junkie and this hit all the spots and for a great price! Easy substitutions and I ended up with the turkey in the garden, add cucumber, no mayo and lettuce instead of spinach. Delish! Will be back again and again to try allllll the sandwiches mmmmm

I love little hole in the wall places to eat because they surprise you more than you think they will. This place makes the best sandwiches and they are quick! I can come here for my lunch break and know I won’t wait 15 – 20 mins for my meal. Super friendly employees. I love coming here.

By far one of the best sandwich shops in SD. The cabrillo is always my go to whenever I want a hearty sandwich for lunch. They don’t skimp on ingredients for sure. Each time I’ve ordered something they always use an abundance of fresh ingredients and I am always satisfied with the layers and layers of meat in their sandwiches. Their creamed mushroom soup is good too! It’s been my go-to lately with the cold weather and I’m craving it right now as I write this review.

I just noticed I gave this place 4 stars. What was I thinking? I’ve been coming here for over 18 years and for over 18 years it’s been excellent and consistent. I love this place. I come all the way from Eastlake… It’s that great.

One of the best sandwich shops in SD! They have so many different options for sandwiches and salads that you are sure to find one that will be your new favorite. I always order the Avonut – I am vegetarian and they have multiple veggie sandwich options while most delis only have one. this one has veggies, a generous amount of avocado, and the unusual sandwhich ingredient: walnuts! I usually add gouda to it and savor every bite. My office orders delivery from here on special occasions and they always bring our food in a timely manner and even have the option of making every order into a meal for only $ 2.25 extra! This includes a soda/water, a bag of chips, and a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie. Always a great deal and a delicious meal!

Now I know why this place has so many great reviews. I love finding family own business because they cook with Love and great ingredients. It really feels like I came home sat down and asked my mom to make me a sandwich. Sandwiches are stuffed with fresh vegetables and meat. I will make this place my Go to sandwich place. And they have Gluten free bread!

I had to stop by, everywhere I went someone mentioned this place. It’s on the radio, at the bank and even the store. I’m glad I came to check out this hidden gem. I’ve passed by it so many times but never knew it existed! It’s a small sandwich shop but the sandwiches are full of flavor. I ordered a Cabrillo sandwich with turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and avocado. My sandwich was finished before I could even finish checking in on Unilocal. The customer service was great everyone was so nice. I wish I was hungrier, everything on the menu looked great. It’s a small space, not enough for a huge group but you can always take it to go. Parking is limited, you’ll have the most luck parking in the street.

I cannot express how much I love this little mom and pop sandwich spot. Their sandwiches are ALWAYS on point. The veggies are fresh… the deli meat is delicious… and the bacon– perfectly crisp. They have amazing customer service, and make daily soups that are full of flavor! Stop by sometime, dine outside and enjoy the weather!

With the rising prices of places such as Subway and Quiznos, I’m shocked anyone goes anywhere else other than Hillcrest Sandwich Co. The service is quick and quality, the ingredients are fresh, and the taste is absolutely a delight, particularly for those who love sandwiches. This little mom and pap sandwich shop is great. It’s family-ran and the owners really do try to remember your face if you’re a regular. I just found out today that they apparently take catering orders which is awesome!!! I suggest either stopping in or ordering catering at work if you have not tried this little gem yet. Today, I ordered the Cabrillo sandwich with sprouts added on. As always, it was freaking delicious. The bacon is thick but crispy. The guacamole is nice and creamy, and the entire sandwich is just great. I almost always get the Cabrillo, but every now and then I get the Neptune’s Delight sandwich if I want a seafood sandwich instead… By the way the Neptune’s Delight is amazing if you’re a fan of crab and shrimp. I plan to go back again!!! On my 9th visit I will happily order my 10th sandwich for free!!!

Deli sandwiches come and go, but when you have one at the Hillcrest Sandwich Co. you know you’re getting some of the best San Diego has to offer. Tucked away next to The Brass Rail, this Sandwich place has everything. including a sandwich called«But the Kitchen Sink»(which I had for breakfast and lunch today) The owners are very nice and remember faces well. They have a punch card system where you keep it there on file so you don’t have to run the risk of losing it in your purse, pocket, or car as we all know we tend to do and then have to start from scratch. Every sandwich I’ve had has been top notch. But the Kitchen Sink had stacks of meat and cheeses: salami, roast beef, ham, turkey, swiss, cheddar, and jack cheese. Throw in a little lettuce, tomato, and red onions so I don’t feel as terrible taking down over a half pound of meat and cheese in this behemoth of a sangwich. Come hungry or be ready to have two meals covered for the day. both shall be equally tasty and satisfying.

I just love this little sandwich shop! They have a huge variety of sandwiches, meats, breads, cheeses and veggies, all fresh and delicious. My favorite is the Turkey in the Garden(turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sprouts, avocado on multi grain bread) Sandwiches are huge and stuffed with all the goodies! They really pile on the meat and veggies which is what makes these sandwiches so wonderful. It is $ 10 for the sandwich, a pickle, chips, cookie and a drink. Can’t beat it! They have a small patio outside or a few small seats inside. Service is quick and friendly. My only qualm is that they close at 4:00!!! It’s tough to get there after work so I like to make it my break and weekend spot. If you’re in the Downtown, Hillcrest, Bankers Hill or North Park area it is definitely worth a stop!

Who doesn’t love a good old fashion simple and delicious sandwich!?! Sometimes you gotta bring it back to basics. Fluffy soft whole wheat bread, juicy turkey, avocado, crisp lettuce, sexy bacon… MMMMmmm I have been on the hunt for a decent sandwich place and upon pulling up to this place I swear the clouds parted and a golden ray of sunshine shone down on this little establishment. I have found it, My perfect little sandwich shop. I got the California Club and added Bacon… because BACON. The sandwich was HUGE and delicious ended up having half for lunch and half for dinner and was more than satisfied. Might I add every sandwich with avo get a whole HALF of an avocado! I accept your terms and respect your style Hillcrest Sandwich Co. I can’t believe it took me this long to find you!

Egg salad sandwich? They have it. Chicken salad sandwich? They have that, too. My waistline cringed in terror when I noticed that they had a Chicken & Egg Salad Club! The decision was inevitable. These types of sandwiches can be a risky order because egg salad and chicken salad recipes are innumerable. I was really impressed by the flavor; it was nicely balanced and constructed, ideal for the diversity of palates in San Diego. My endorphins had a workout. The pickles they serve the sandwiches with are divine. We asked for additional pickles, willing to pay for them, and they handed us a few at no additional cost. Sweet and noticeable gestures like that are a hallmark of a fantastic business. The two employees working at the time were extremely helpful and polite. When the mood strikes, I can’t imagine entertaining any other sandwich shop in the neighborhood but Hillcrest Sandwich. It’s too bad they aren’t open later!

I literally just ate lunch here but I feel compelled to write this review. I haven’t been this excited about a sandwich since the Turkey Cobb on Kalamata Olive bread at Con Pane in Liberty Station! I got a little confused about the entrance but a few friendly patrons helped me out! It turns out their patio area is across the way from their storefront. The doors in the patio area lead to private residences so definitely don’t walk in to those! If you’re looking at the patio, turn your head to the right. Walk up the teeny staircase, turn right and go right in that door with a weird handle. That door leads to the amazingness you are about to experience! Once I found my way in, I ordered the Turkey in the Garden sandwich and added bacon(because, DUH). I only have one word for how it tasted: N(F&*^)#HR)^#@%R&GFWEGR%^RFW#%(Y#*@&%#^*)&GH#^*$G%@$&%#)$&JF%$@*$!!! Well, it’s not a real word but you’ll know exactly what it means when you take your first bite of a Hillcrest Sandwich Co. sandwich! The ingredients were SO fresh, the bacon was perfectly crispy and the sprouts were so yummy! They have side items like pasta salad, cheesy pasta salad, chips, etc. Or, you can go with a half sandwich and soup. Their soups smell awesome, by the way. I was tempted to order some but it’s still so stinkin’ hot outside! On my way out, I came across a couple who appeared to be trying to figure out whether they wanted to pop in or not. I HAD to tell them that if they didn’t they would truly be missing out! They seemed to appreciate my complete lack of minding my own business and I really hope they ventured inside. I hope you’ll venture inside too! A few things to know: 1. Small inside seating space 2. Patio not attached to the store 3. THEYDELIVER!!!(says to a limited area though) 4. This was probably one of the best sandwiches I have ever had.
