SOSAD that this place closed. It was replaced by Harvey Milk Diner, which frankly didn’t measure up – and that’s probably why they went out of business less than two years after opening. So long to a hell of a reuben sandwich.

The best Matzo Ball Soup… Very tasty! Unfortunately, I was just told that 8÷1÷2013 This diner will be under new ownership. The menu, a face-lift and name will change in September. Harvey Milk Diner will hopefully live up to the guests expectations! Over 30 years of greatness has come to an end… I will definitely! return to Unilocal-it-out!!!

I came in while it was a bit slow but it was nice. Wish they had Wi-Fi. Good Biscuts and gravy!

I can’t believe it took me two years living in Hillcrest to finally try this place. I always had heard it was overpriced and not that good, but we had a really good experience. I thought the prices were decent for the area and the food was tasty. I got a deli sandwich and chicken noodles soup and it was delish. They only offer a few soups by the cup, so I was sort of forced into the chicken noodle. Most chicken noodles are too bland for me, but this one was full of flavor! Next time I’m trying the big bowl of matzah ball! Our server was quirky and attentive. Overall this place has a relaxing diner feel. I am bummed I waited so long to try it. City Deli really fills in the gap of the lack of casual eateries in the hood. I suppose many people would compare it to Crest Café, but I am not a fan of that place. Crest Café is overpriced and the food is super buttery/greasy. I will definitely be adding City Deli to my rotation! I really enjoyed everything, including the massive piece of peanut butter bar we ordered on our way out the door!

City Deli has been feeding hungry crowds for 20 years — where the BLEEP have I been? When we walked in I was immediately pleased because City Deli has: 1. Cute 1950 – 1960’s throwback theme 2. Tables equipped with mini juke boxes 3. Counter seating 4. Tons of AMAZING desserts I heart counter seating. When enjoying counter seating hearing stuff like«Cup a Joe», «Want your regular hun» and«Sweetie Pie» are common place. That’s a world I wanna live in Unilocalers. So we had a group of 6 this fine day. As we walked to our table we passed a refrigerated containment unit of sugary AWESOME. Yes cakes, cookies, and desserts of all shapes and sizes temped you. I wanted to give in bad. I hadn’t even eaten breakfast and I was ready to devour this fresh cake topped with white icing and shaved coconut… No Kent B. stay focused we’re on: MISSIONBREAKFAST. My visit was during the first day of the San Diego LGBTPRIDE2012 in Hillcrest so the mood in town was festive to say the least. I thought it was appropriate to order the hottie cakes. Yes, 2 fluffy pancakes topped with warm maple syrup, salted whipped butter and a side of GLORIOUS bacon. This was the beginning to what was a wonderful day! Service was efficient and very friendly. I double dog dare you to fit 7 people in 1 booth! I’ll be back for you coconut cake! I give this city deli 7.5 «hot HOTTIECAKES» outta 10.

Excellent ^^

Had breakfast here at City Deli on my birthday, which just so happened to be on the first day of the San Diego LGBTPRIDE2012 in Hillcrest. Gay Pride was awesome, and it was a wonderful way to spend a birthday, but that’s another review! :) Our party of 6 was sat in a circular booth upstairs near the restrooms in the back. The booth seat comfortably fit our plump bottoms with space in between each person. This is great right? What wasn’t great, was that the table was slightly larger than a cocktail table. How did this restaurant intend to serve 6 of us at the same time? Was there some kind of STEALTH table that would hover above our primary eating area??? Unfortunately, there wasn’t. Many of the dishes are served on 2 plates, making this Polly Pocket-sized table very crowded! We ended up stacking our plates on top of each other to eat. Everyone just took it in stride, FOOD was good! My guy ordered«HOTTIECAKES»(hehe) and I ordered the LOX& Everything BAGEL, sans lettuce(what type of lox/bagel combo involves lettuce???). Kent loved his hottie cakes and used the syrup, which had to be put on the top of the booth near my head, and really enjoyed them! I really liked the combo of cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onion, tomato, and Cucumber. But I do think that $ 15 is pretty steep for what I got. Yummy! Next time I go I’m going to enjoy a piece of their beautiful cakes from the glass case at a table on their patio outside!
