I went looking for this place on Unilocal, because it was LITERALLY the best hot dog i’d ever had here in San Diego. Now, granted, I was drunk. And hungry. But don’t let that deter you. Even in an inebriated state I am still picky with my food, and it takes a lot for me to go to sleep and wake up thinking about an all-beef hot dog that I had after the club LOL. This stand comes out right next to Richs in Hillcrest, I usually see them out there(along with their line of patrons) on Thursday and Saturday nights. Not sure if they are out there any other night though. My hot dog consisted of chili, cheese, sauerkraut, and cream cheese. Now– don’t get discouraged by the ingredients, every last element to that dog went together smoothly. YUM. Can’t wait to have another one next week.

Ok, I’m writing this review to put this little hot dog stand on the grid. Its not really called El Grunge Hot-dogs, but I thought it was a clever name for the hot dog stand because the guy that works there told me that’s his favorite hot dog. Also the address is not really 1000 University Ave. I just put that in there because it was within walking distance from the Ruby Room, in this direction. As far as I know it was University corner with Vermont. You should be able to see it. I found it because there was lots of ppl eating there, just standing, grubbing on their dogs. I’m a fan of hot dogs, and I noticed there was some very interesting options. I promise I will go back and take a pic of the menu some day. The guy preparing the dogs was very friendly, I asked him, «which are the most popular ones?» He said the«El grunge»(a hot dog, that has bacon, grilled onions, and cream cheese) and the«Cheese steak»(a philly cheese steak hot dog). I ordered the El grunge, because the guy said it was his favorite, and also asked for a drink. He gave me the El grunge an a coke for 5.50. That’s a good deal, for a great hot-dog. I hope the guy doesn’t mind I named his little stand, El Grunge hot dogs. I think it has a nice ring to it, don’t you? Anyways, I hope this review helps put that guy on the map, and helps you find these amazing hot dogs.
