Who ever knew a sausage could taste so damn good? I came to visit San Diego for a weekend and went downtown to visit the bars: Riches and Flicks. Of course after having $ 2 drinks at Flicks I was trying to bring my drinking high down so when I had seen Mateo’s Hot Spot, smelled the good sausages cooking and seen the long ass line and knew I had to try it! J.D was super nice and even went out of his way to do a special request for me since I wanted my bun toasted(makes the sausage taste so much better). After reading the menu and getting a kick out of all the names of the sausages I decided to try the Tres Amigos(don’t forget to add bacon) real talk! Mines came with: cream cheese, nacho cheese, grilled onions with the bacon and when I say it only lasted a couple seconds I’m telling you 3 big yummy bites and POOF it was gone! The condiments sit on a table on the side which consists of: pickles, jalapeños, Sriracha! OMG, definitely puts the topping on it! After I walked to the car I couldn’t believe I only bought 1SMH! Moral of the story: When you see Mateo Hot Spot do yourself a favor and buy one of these yummy sausages! Trust me when I tell you that you won’t regret it!

So I’m chilling outside Numbers for a work gig and I decided that the sausage outside looked far more appetizing than the ones inside. I proceed to the cart and tried to order«The Old Kaiser»(brat with kraut) and unfortunately the brats weren’t quite done. So I got the same order with a jumbo dog and the«duh» addition of bacon and grilled onions. I abused the condiments by adding a healthy dose of jalapeños and raw onions. 5 minutes later I’m nice and full while accepting compliments on my outfit from the transgender crowd. Just a normal night in SD. Come to Mateos, he’s super nice and plays complimentary old school hip hop while you chow down. –Thug Life–

A street ‘dog from Mateo’s Hot Spot is my favorite thing after a night dancing my face off at Rich’s, Flicks, and/or Gossip Grill. Seriously. There is almost always a line and the wait is worth it. My favorite is El Grunge, which comes with bacon and cream cheese. mmmmm. Sometimes I add nacho cheese too. And then there are all of the self-serve condiments including jalapeños and Sriracha. What more could you ask for? Do yourself a favor and get a ‘dog when this street cart is around.

So this place is kind of really amazing. The food is delicious. The portion is much more than what I expected. Such a great deal. And not to mention they are friendly and very speedy at preparing your food!
