The County of San Diego building on Pacific Highway is certainly an architectural gem. On the Second Floor, there is the Human Resources Dept, which is where you go to apply for county jobs or to interview for some of those jobs. It is quaintly old-fashioned there in Human Resources– with some very efficient county human resource workers very adept at pushing papers. I found it odd that they had a security guard hanging around. Once I found some jobs that matched my skills, I was directed to go to some school in Linda Vista and take employment testing, which I did. Once you pass these tests, you are then put on some kind of list of persons eligible for employment. But now the ball is in your court. You have to get online all the time and check for job postings. Eventually, you may get lucky and get hired. It helps to be a veteran or former Navy and I am sure it also helps if you know someone. I do not doubt that the County does a good job in finding desirable workers and hiring them. The county website says:“To provide and retain a skilled and competent workforce for the County of San Diego departments so that they may deliver superior services to the residents and visitors.”
