The fish tacos was mediocre. The salsa was out and had to request 3 times. Veggie quesadillas were a joke

Last time my hubby and I had their breakfast burritos, they were just gut bombs. Not a good idea to start the day with. Still on the search for the perfect burrito.

Only because I can’t give a zero stars. Went there once a while back, I was the only person in the place and it literally took 15 minutes to get my order which was very basic. I chalked that up to the fact that they had just opened and had some kinks to work out. Went there tonight(Friday) at 8:55 pm and they were closed, lots of employees inside, texting away on their cell phones, but not open… even though their sign says open until 9 pm. Not exactly working overtime. Never should have given them a second chance. I’m done with their lazy service!

Can’t comment on the food as we arrived at 7:30pm on a Monday and they had already closed despite the 9pm closing time posted both online and the store window.

Great food, except when you come to eat dinner, and see that they closed in excess of an hour early. I was here at 7:45 advertised times on both the door and on Unilocal are 9pm.

I’ll admit I don’t always come here for a full meal, sometimes it’s just for some chips and salsa. Because the spicy red salsa is pretty delicious. I’ve had the tacos and they may be a little greasy(but it’s Mexican fast food, so kind of what you’re paying for) but they’re still good. My only complaint would be that the service can be a little slow, especially for fast food, but it’s not horrendous. If you’re looking to satisfy your Mexican food fix, this is not a bad place to do it.

Food is ok, they had a B rating last time I went in and apparently they are back to an A. Bad service to be honest though.

My wife and I have driven past this place for a year and stopped in today for lunch. I had two grilled chicken soft tacos with the rice and beans combo. My wife had a bean and cheese burrito. The tacos were the typical street taco size but with ample meat, cilantro, and onions. Throw in some hot sauce and they are excellent! The rice and beans tasted fresh. My wife’s burrito was huge and delicious! Their beans are smooth and creamy. My criticisms(I. E., suggestions for improvement): First, have a drink dispenser(versus bottled beverages). Second: expand the salsa bar to include diced onions and cilantro. That being said, we’ll be back!

This place is just okay. I guess it’s «meh, I’ve had better» so according to Unilocal,I should rate this place 2 stars. But to me, 2 stars is bad. This place isn’t bad; it’s just not anything more than average.

Came here on a taco Tuesday after visiting the parents. This location has started a few coffee shops all of which never really survived. Then I saw Cotijas opening here and had to try it. This taco shop is an extension of Cotijas on Black Mountain. Smart move I believe, the high school students can walk here and grab a burrito whenever they like! Taco Tuesday — There are a large number of tacos on this menu available for under $ 2!I don’t recall the one on Black Mountain having such a special so I had to try it. Fish taco — still honestly, the best bang for your buck. The fish piece is HUGE. As far as taste goes, I think it is just okay. It is a lot of fish but not a lot of flavor. Pollo Asada — the most flavorful one. The chicken is well marinated and moist and the taco is well portioned. Adobada pork — It was okay. The marinade was a bit much. Overall, for a taco tuesday special, I was pretty satisfied. There are so many choices that I will definitely be back to try the other ones. When I find the perfect combination of tacos, I will update this review. Best of luck to you Cotijas Taco Shop!

Food was pretty expensive for a Cotija, I get it it’s in Carmel Valley so OK Ill deal. Ordered a Carne Asada Burrito, Kids Quesadilla and 2 Cali burritos. When the cashier asked«Chicken or Beef» to my Cali burriito request I should have known I was doomed… Beef of course considering a traditional Cali Burrito is steak, fries, pico, guac and cheese. This had fries, some beef and some sort of FrankenCream Cheese combo from hell!!! Just NOTGOOD at allllll. No guac, no Pico de gallo… just a stuffed tortilla of lard, potato and a little steak… it was inedible, my girl also didn’t eat more than 2 bites as it was nasty. For some reason the mild salsa was more like marinara sauce, the«hot salsa» was decent but not really spicy for what it’s worth. Other Cotija’s are ALL much better than this one, I get that it’s new but how do you screw up a Cali Burrito in San Diego… PLEASEFIXTHIS, I spent $ 38 and only ate one burrito as the rest wasn’t good at all.

The first week this placed opened it was great but the last 2 times its been horrible. Tonight the beans were so peppery my kids couldn’t eat them and we found what looked like a French frie in the beans(at least I hope it was that!) It’s a real shame we love Mexican food and having a place we can walk to was great. Oh well back over the 15 to Jalapeño’s

While I’m still a fan, I have to say that the service and preparation of the food has been inconsistent. At times I am getting fabulous fish tacos and other times something somewhat mediocre with not exactly the ripest tomatoes and an overabundance of sauce.

Really nice chorizo and asada tacos. Great to have this place in the area! Great service on phone order and excellent salsas!

I’m pretty happy about this taco shop becoming part of our neighborhood. Food is good, reasonably priced, and it meets our San Diego expectations of a local taco shop. Most every taco shop is good in our corner of the world, and this place is no exception. There are some areas I would change, but of course this is only personal preference:(1) a California Burrito should only consist of Carne Asada, cheese, French fries, and salsa. Nothing else, unless requested. 2) salsa should add flavor to the meal. This one is difficult to describe, but I love a salsa that I *have* to put on every bite — and their salsas just don’t do much for me. This is close to a deal breaker for me, but most of the food items keep me coming back for more, despite the salsa. Cheers!

Fish tacos the best!!! They have the mexican authentic flavor. Corn tortilla is really good. My kids loved the bean burritos.

Can you really give a Taco shop 5 stars when it’s only been open for a couple of hours? Actually, can you even give a taco shop 5 stars? Not likely. Every prior occupant in this storefront has gone out of business, but I hope these guys stick around. The food was cooked to order, the workers were normal, everything was clean. As long as it stays that way, this place should survive. Dios le ven diga.
