People make fun of me for going to another country for dinner, but for Cheripan, it’s worth it. There’s a parking lot at the restaurant, but far, far easier is to park on the US side of the border, walk across, and take a $ 5 taxi to Cheripan on the other side. Once you get there, you’ll be rewarded with excellent Argentinian food at quite reasonable prices. We started off with their legendary Tamarind Martinis, and to be honest, we weren’t too impressed. They were really too sweet. Two wonderful empanadas, a «mexicanos» with jalapeños and cheddar cheese, and a more authentic one with beef, peas, and spices. Very flaky crust — they melt in your mouth. I had the steak covered in two cheeses, and my wife had a simpler steak. Both were tasty, but I think the flavor of the cheese, which was quite excellent, may have overpowered the flavor of the meat. We finished off with a Dulce de Leche napoleon, which was one of the best desserts that I’ve ever had, hands down. Drinks, appetizers, main courses, and dessert for two? $ 55! Gotta love the peso. For a non-Spanish speaker like me, I was nervous about being understood, but the waiters understood enough English to communicate, and they have an English menu. We’ll be back!

Yes, for those brave souls that will take a trip south of the border, you will be rewarded by 5 star Argentine food. All of their cuts are excellent and always cooked to perfection. Their Chimichurri salsa is the best I have ever had, and their wine selection is also excellent. The owners take a genuine interest in your experience and will often come by and introduce themselves to you and ask if you need anything and if everything is good. If it is not, simply let them know and they will make it right for you. 3 people, full dinners and still less than one hundred dollars. A short jaunt across the border and you are there. Easily accessible by car and/or taxi.
