Five stars because they deliver, and very close to my house; and while not exactly the best Chinese food in the world, it does its job to making me satisfied. Quite tasty for a quick dinner! It’s my 4th visit since they opened, and their seafood dishes are actually quite good; and I’d recommend you get those for your first visit. They’re improving everyday. The people who run this place are very chill, nice, and work their absolute tails off day in day out. It’s been getting somewhat busy lately too; and that’s awesome. I enjoy watching brand new hardworking mompop businesses thrive for once in my community. Of course, IMHO, QT Pot is better in this area(for authenticity), but for quick local bites with a more western-influenced menu most of us has grown familiar with; it’s great. Both Chinese restaurants are great places to go eat for their own reasons.

So great, especially the delivery service. Will continue to order! Appreciate the text message about delivery.

Very fast delivery, kind delivery person but none of the food I ordered tasted good and there was nothing I could finish. Lo mein was bland and too soft, the cream cheese wantons were bursting with grease and tasted/felt like grease in my mouth, pan fried dumplings just tasted terrible and also extremely greasy. Very disappointed that I spent 34 $ just to satisfy a craving and the food is basically inedible. Hopefully it was just a bad night or something.

The most terrible Chinese food delivery service in my life. First they make you order online for 7 bucks, and then they show up an hour late. In fact I’m still waiting to see if my food is going to show up at all. I called the restaurant and hey said they did have my order, then called back and said they did. Still no food… I ordered at 5:30pm it’s 7:19pm now. Okay at 7:34pm a very stoned delivery guy showed up. Luckily, he was not overly tempted by my cream cheese wontons. Thanks Unilocal delivery, I have a massage at 8pm and not enough time to eat. never again!

Chef Wong’s was my introduction to the Unilocal Eat24 app. I have to say that I enjoyed both the food and this delivery service! I’m completely unfamiliar with this area so(as usual) I was relying on Unilocal to find me a nice place to get food from. Based on reviews I ended up selecting Chef Wong’s. From looking at the pictures on Unilocal it looks like a nice restaurant, but I had my food delivered so I didn’t get to see it. Ordering through the Eat24 app couldn’t have been easier. I was able to browse through their menu and make my selections. I was not only able to pay with Apple Pay, but I added in the tip also. When the delivery driver showed up 45 minutes later he handed me a bag and that was it. It felt weird(but nice) not having to grab my wallet. As for the food it was quite delicious and definitely a step above the greasy food you can get from bad Chinese takeout places. I looked at his bio on their website and it says that Chef Wong cooked at Hong Kong Disneyland resort. No wonder I liked this place! I would definitely get food from here again.

My husband and I ordered beef chow fun, chicken fried rice, and the bbq pork, and when we opened the bag, the food was packed in and busting out of the take out boxes. The food was tasty and not too greasy. And the hot chili sauce was amazing. I would have given it five stars, but the service wasn’t the best. But it won’t stop us from going back.

This is a pretty good restaurant. I really enjoy their wor wonton soup and always ask my husband to bring some home on his way home from work. It is flavorful and full of veggies, meat and yummy wontons. The veggies in the soup are fresh and don’t look like they are old or damaged at all. My Daughter enjoys the egg drop soup and their chow mein. They are very careful preparing the food when we tell them that our daughter has a peanut allergy. We enjoy coming here and plan on coming more often.

If you are tired of the Chinese fast-food places like the one with a «Panda» bear or what I call expensive Americanized Chinese food like at a place with the initials«PF“C, then Chef Wong’s is what you are looking for. It is what I would call authentic homestyle tasting Chinese cuisine! It has been a long time since I walked into a Chinese restaurant. I have forgotten what Chinese food really tasted like ever since the boom of the fast-food and the all you can eat Chinese places. The food is excellent! I started with their egg drop soup. The soup temperature was just right, it was hearty, not watered down, and full of eggs. I also ordered a Veggie Egg Foo Yung and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. Each dish was cooked to order! The shrimp was properly cooked, it was not rubbery. The sauces were perfectly seasoned. The white rice was light and fluffy. The dining area is cozy and very clean! The dining staff was very friendly and always available/visible! Restroom was clean and stocked! I will return to try more of their dishes!

I’m a fan of this place. It’s much better than the Chinese buffet style place that was here before it. They have order in or take out but I normally get dine in lunch with the family. Also they have coupons for this place sent in the mail all the time so I’m always able to get one free lunch combo with one paid with two sodas. I am partial to their orange peel chicken and their walnut shrimp and chow mein are very good as well. This is not a snooty Chinese restaurant but it has decent food and I’d think its better than panda express and would say its on par with Pei Wei as a point of reference. Happy eating

I’m a happy camper. Ordered via Unilocal(extremely easy), requested ASAP delivery. Got a text within 5 minutes confirming my order would be here within 30 minutes. Total process from beginning to end was 40 minutes before we had our delivery in our hands. The order was hot. The order was fresh. Best thing(in order) was– chicken Lo Mein– I could eat these noodles and nothing else. Chicken fried rice sweet & sour pork Then the average(but still yummy) — Chicken Broccoli Finally– skip the orange peel chicken. Not too bad but so many places make a better version.

Ordered food for delivery though Unilocal,if was so fast I was amazed! Bowl of soup was HUGE Fried rice was perfect and the kung-poa was beyond amazing. We were craving Chinese food after drinking on NYE, we were so happy to see that we could get what we wanted delivered, it said it would be an hour but BAM, we had our food within 26 minutes. We were very happy hungover people.

Very nice little restaurant. Very modern chinese. Since the restaurant was practically empty, the service was great! One of the servers really took his time in explaining some of the menu items to us. They were efficient on making sure we didn’t need anything else, filling our waters and taking away our plates. Combination chow fun noodles was a generous portion. Good flavor. Lots of meat and veggies. It was very delicious. Definitely recommend it. Honey Walnut shrimp was a good portion as well. It seemed small at first, but definitely fills you up quickly. I like that they offer either steamed rice or brown rice. I couldn’t decide which one I wanted because so they gave me both. The brown rice was average, not too dry. Overall everything was great. Would come back here again to try other things.

Tried for the first time today. Food tasted excellent. Ordered egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, orange peel chicken and cubed filet mignon beef. The soups were both excellent. Orange peel chicken wasn’t too sweet and didn’t have that fake orange taste some places have. Filet mignon beef was my least favorite dish. It tasted great. Sauteed with asparagus. However, there was a 2:1 ratio of asparagus to beef and it was a smaller portion than the chicken. Also, the beef was dry. For the price I’d rather order something different next time. I’m pretty sensitive to msg and I had no issues at all after eating here. Staff was very friendly. Will be back!

I like this place. Good chinese food without having to go to convoy. Honey walnut shrimp is actually probably one of the best I’ve had in San Diego. Peking duck was good and so was the beef with string beans. The service was excellent too. This is going to be my go to place for chinese food when I don’t want to venture all the way out to convoy.

I have had a number of great dishes here. Kung pao chicken, Szechuan beef, hot and sour soup all had great flavor and the quality of the food was high. My only minor issue was the stir fried dishes were a bit too oily. This is my new go-to Chinese restaurant, nothing else comes close in the area.

First of all, Thanks Trish S. for your review. It’s what got me to finally use my coupon for Chef Wong! Located on CMR in the 24HF center in Rancho PQ, parking is always busy here cuz of the gym. They’re just a few doors down from 24H. Thankfully, it smells way better in Chef Wong than it does 24H. haha. It’s our tradition that anytime after going to the dentist, we go for chinese food. My mouth was all numb and I could only have soft foods so we opted for Hot & Sour soup, tofu/garlic eggplant(the hawt diggity bomb! I’m ordering 2 next time!), garlic chicken and chicken lo mein. Entrees range from $ 9.95(veggies/chicken/pork)-$ 10.95(beef)-$ 12.95(seafood) and noodle/rice dishes range from $ 10.95-$ 13.95. They’ve been here since Sept. 2015, so are still building up their name. I had been getting coupons in the mailers at home but always threw them away cuz I figured it was just typical greasy chinese. But after reading Trish’s review, I was all, all right, I’ll check it out. It’s Americanized Chinese food, but it’s better prepared, fresher and healthier tasting than typical chinese food. Hubby and I LOVED the Hot & Sour Soup($ 6.50). The bowl size is supposed to be 4 bowls but we got I’d say 5 out of it! Plus it wasn’t all clumpy like typical H&SS. This was one of the better ones we’ve had. The tofu/garlic eggplant($ 9.95) was one of the best dishes we’ve had at a chinese restaurant. Fresh, flavorful, NOT greasy, and just a nice mild spiciness to it. Hands down the best dish(along w/the soup). Next time, hubby and I are ordering 2 of these. Try it. You’re welcome! Loved that it had lots of veggies! The chicken w/garlic sauce($ 9.95) was also quite tasty w/a mild spiciness and had lots of broccoli. Yum. The chicken lo mein($ 10.95) wasn’t spicy, and tasted good mixed in w/all the other dishes. Here’s what I loved about Chef Wong: Steven, the owner, was very personable and friendly. I like supporting and promoting nice business owners. Free white or brown rice with your entrees. Huge pet peeve of mine when asian restaurants charge for rice. I hate being nickel & dimed. He allowed us to replace dark meat w/chicken breast w/no substitution cost. They use individually wrapped fortune cookies. Thank you. Ugh hate the unwrapped ones– they’re always stale and dirty hands touch them. LOVE that their dishes are full of crispy veggies. Other chinese restaurants hardly have any veggies, and when they do, it’s all soggy with all the salty sauce. LOVED that he gave me an extra brown rice & extra fortune cookies to take home w/leftovers w/o charging me. LOVED that they customized our dishes to make it lower sodium. They don’t use MSG! Thank you! The only thing that could’ve been better is if they had a busboy to come by to refill our water during the meal(it was done at the end when our cups were empty). I like to always have water cuz I’m always thirsty. Also, for the noodle dishes if you want tofu it’s extra $ 1.50. It’d be nice if that was just an option priced same as the chicken. Finally, I’m bummed that this is their last month of doing the coupon mailers. I think being a few months new, they should do it at least til 1 yr. anniversary to get the word out on his place and to help ensure success. But at least I got to use my $ 5 off $ 30 purchase today. He said the first month they did the coupon there was an error and the magazine did 20% off entire order and a big group of 20 came in and used it. He said he honored it. THAT is good business. Normally, those 3 minor things would make me state at the top of my review«Overall 4.5 stars»…but because Steven’s such a good business owner, that was the pizazz that rounded it up to 5 stars. But pretty please Steven, consider continuing the coupons and not charging to sub tofu in the noodle dishes :) Being mostly vegetarian/vegan, I prefer to have tofu vs. chicken, as hubby and I rarely eat meat. There are also lots of veggies/vegans out there that would appreciate that :) I have one more coupon that expires 12÷31÷15 it’s BOGO free lunch special when you buy 2 drinks(served M-F 11 – 2; comes w/soup egg roll, lo mein, rice and price ranges $ 7.95-$ 9.95), so hubby and I will be back in a few weeks. Chef Wong ain’t nothin’ fancy. It’s like a casual sit down place. But IMHO it’s way better than PF Changs, Panda Express, and Yen Chim Garden(PQ). All those places are way too damn salty and greasy, and definitely not as personable. At Chef Wong we could actually taste the food. It wasn’t salty tasting and it wasn’t all greasy. This is our new go to place for post-dental visits and whenever I am craving«comfort food». Chinese food is my comfort food, especially on a cold winter’s nite! See ya soon, Steven! Thanks for the yummy dinner and kind hospitality. We’ll tell all of our 24H peeps about you! ps– they take AMEX.

We ordered for delivery. Unfortunately their delivery service was having issues so they temporarily stopped doing them until the problem is resolved. That said, I went and picked it up. My orange peel chicken was tasty, lots of meat. BUT the menu said it was spicy. I see two Thai red peppers in there, but it’s not even mild. No bite whatsoever. I added some hot chili oil that I keep on hand and that kicked in the heat. Really good dish. My son ordered the House Lo Mein. It was delicious, except for the shrimp, which he tasted, promptly spit out, and threw away the rest of the shrimp pieces. He said the shrimp tasted fishy and old(the 5th star). I did taste the dish without the shrimp and it was really good. My daughter ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken and really enjoyed hers. I do not think they use MSG or any of the derivatives(like hydrolyzed yeast extract) because I am well and did not get a migraine or have the MSG hangover. Bottom line: We will most definitely return. And it’ll be nice to have a delivery option near us in the future. I hope they get that sorted out quickly! Give it a go, I think you’ll be pleased.

I have to say I was quite disappointed by this establishment. I ordered the egg drop soup, which was fine and the orange peel chicken. The orange chicken could not have possibly been saltier and I just took most of it home. The service was good, but they still don’t have their beer and wine license even though they have beer on their menu. I was hoping for a new spot in PQ, but this place ain’t it.

Chef Wong Chinese Cuisine is rated average on my scale. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. – On The Table: Small Hot and Sour Soup($ 3.25) Broccoli Beef($ 10.95) Salt and Pepper Calamari($ 12.95) Hot and Sour Soup* is my one of my favorites and it’s honestly how I judge a Chinese restaurant to see if I would return. The hot and sour soup here was decent — thick but not as flavorful as others I’ve tasted. I liked that they had tofu, bamboo and mushrooms in the soup but it wasn’t served with crispy noodles to enjoy with. The Broccoli Beef* was okay, slightly salty. The Salt and Pepper Calamari* was deliciously breaded but would be even more tasty if it was marinated more with the garlic and pepper seasoning. Each calamari bite had no pepper flavor unless individually topped with the seasoning. My boyfriend asked for a side of sweet and sour sauce to eat with it. Overall, nice and clean restaurant, good service and decent prices but nothing special from this visit. Maybe I’ll be back to try a noodle dish in the future!

Welcome to the neighborhood Chef Wong! The 4.5 stars is well deserved and I think this is my new preferred take out! Chinese food is basically in my top 5 favorite cuisines to eat and I like it all no matter if it’s very authentic or very Americanized. I’ve been a little disappointed in my normal take out joint lately so I searched a wider radius and found this new spot had opened up and for a cozy, rainy San Diego Sunday night the boyfriend and I decided to order in with a side of Netflicks. We called in and ordered the following dishes. The man who helped me on the phone was SUPER nice and accommodating — also seemed excited for the order and said it’d be ready in only 15 minutes. To start we got: Fried Cream Cheese Wontons 芝士雲吞 8 pcs $ 5.95 These were a total win and I’ll get them every time I order going forward — delicious, simple — and they traveled well in the take out box because they smartly poked holes to let the steam escape. Thanks Chef! Nothing worse than soggy wontons and he saved them from a sure death by traveling with that move. they come with a small side of Sweet & Sour sauce Chop Suey with Chicken 雜碎 $ 10.95 I really enjoyed this dish — I’m used to a more flavorful sauce but I prefer my vegetables this way when eating Chinese food. The veggies were still crisp and fresh and steaming hot. Sweet & Sour Pork 甜酸肉 $ 9.95 The sauce was very thin and light, more brownish orange in color so I felt more healthy eating it than the bright red variety you find every where else — but it was missing sweetness and the chicken was not very crispy. Thumbs up on the veggies though, plenty in this mix and the chicken was a high quality. Cashew Nut(or Almond) Chicken 腰果雞丁 $ 9.95 I probably would not order this again, it was in a very thin sauce and the Almonds were really hard to even find, much less taste in the dish. I prefer a much thicker sauce and plenty of nuts to add flavor. Egg Drop Soup 蛋花湯 Cup: $ 3.25 This was probably the BEST egg drop soup I’ve had in San Diego — hands down. I’ll come in for just a bowl of this on the next rainy afternoon. Over all we really enjoyed our dinner. I feel like I need to go in for lunch soon and try a few more things on the menu but this is a VERYSOLID choice for Chinese food if you’re along the 56 anywhere. Congrats on your new restaurant Chef Wong!
