I have had the pleasure of connecting with and working with members of the 3Cs for the last 14 years ~even hosting a couple banquets and demo events, and have enjoyed numerous cake camps and demo events. I do hear from time to time that a couple of the board members have a little bit of an abrasive demeanor. but moments into conversation with them and you can see that first impression incorrect. I’ve been in cake clubs for the past 14+ years and I am the Founder and President of The Sweet Things of Silicon Valley Cake Club and I can tell you: no one gives more to the decorators of California than these people. This is the team that runs the San Diego Cake Club, The San Diego Cake Show(biggest in California), the 3Cs, with four meetings/banquets a year statewide, and Cake Camp every other year — one member even hosts all the CAICES meetings. None are paid, all are volunteers. Give membership a try and you’ll see what I mean!

The California Cake Club was once a center hub of cake decorating yet today, it has seen its last days and will probably be operational at a low scale existence mode scale until new leadership takes hold of it and does it justice. Failure by the so called executive staff that are in control today to change and remain up-dated has resulted in low membership counts and being canceled by major event coordinating convention centers for lack of attendance by club members. There are other organizations and clubs that actually take interest in the development and the designs of cake decorating and the education of the basics. California Cake Club consists primarily of cake supply store owners. The major design artists do not belong to the club due to fossils who control and select amongst themselves who will win acknowledgements, be giving a voice, and event win prizes. Such a pitiful group of «has beens». The website consists of attempts to associate with bigger organizations and past glories rather than the Cake Club’s continuous improvements or achievements because they have none that can be verified. Take a look at their front page website. Susan made that display in 2010, 3 years ago and they have nothing else. I don’t think Susan gives a hoot about this club because she is too busy being successful in Tecmecula, California or teaching on cruise ships or giving lessons internationally. The California Cake Club needs her and not the other way around. You as a prospect are in the same boat as Susan. You don’t need the Cake Club either. Don’t bother joining and save your money. The demonstrations at the meetings are often given by store owners teaching the same old tricks and offering nothing but $ 40 dinner fees that include a cheap meal and banquet restaurant fee and you have to bring a $ 50 gift to be raffled. There are better U-tube lessons on the Internet than what you will get at the California Cake Club, a has-been and not going anywhere club that has seen its heydays. When a club gets reminded to not apply for conventions due to low attendance at the Rivera Hotel Casino, Green Valley Resort and now is reduced to Downtown where the bums and muggers are in a dingy hall where it smells, then you know that you are being mislead by talentless executive committee that needs to shut the organization down. I can’t be wrong because the membership went down over 70% in 3 years.
