We have always had the food delivered, never actually been on site. Everything we have ordered has been delicious!

This restaurant and its owner never fail to make us feel at home with their unparalleled hospitality and ah-mazing home cooked food. Love their sweet and sour chicken, sambusas, chicken sandwich and quesadillas. My favorite halal spot in San Diego! Would eat there every day if I could afford the calories :-(

Ordered the steak — it was seriously chewy. I stopped trying to eat it and spit most of it out cause it was too chewy. The pasta was flavorless. Won’t order from here again. And the red velvet cake was dry!

Ordered a T-bone steak mostly because I’ve never had delivery steak. The flavor is great but it’s not great cut of meat. It was a little chewy but great flavor. I ordered it on basmati rice which went great with the steak because it soaked in all the steak juices. Delivery — This is my third time ordering. The first two deliveries went fine but the third one was bad. The delivery driver called me from his car and wanted me to come out to the curb to pick up my food because I have a long driveway. We went back and forth and he eventually drove down the driveway. He called again and didn’t want to come to the door. I went outside and grabbed the food and sent him on his way. I’ve never had a delivery driver not want to deliver and I get food delivered pretty regularly. I live in the city not some scary backwood house. Stars — will leave at 4 stars unless I get another bad delivery driver.

Coffee Royal is a five star gourmet and burger bar. most of its menu are fusion of Middle Eastern, Southern Asian and Horn of Africa and North American coupled with Burgers, and Fries. I can’t explain but you must visit, places in San Diego.

The Philly cheese steak sandwich is great! The goat plate had very tender and succulent meat. We loved this meal. Also, you must try the coconut cake! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there was a long wait for the food, but it was very busy when we went.

Love this place. Incredibly tasty food. Make sure to hunt down the bottles of hot sauce. Not much for vegetarians but the couple things they do have are super tasty. The staff is very very friendly and eager to help you have a great meal.

So… Wasn’t entirely satisfied but alhamdulillah . Steaks were over done(very chewy)… Even though we asked for rare to medium. Bbq ribs weren’t available ‚ Philly cheese steaks weren’t available. Wings came out right after we finished eating everything. Somalian chai was extremely sweet. Reminded me of a very sweet version of Oprah chai tea latte from Starbucks . Pros– Lamb shanks were good. CheeseBurger was delicious . We got to pray our zuhr and asr . And they had a lotta in the bathroom.

Ordered the beef sandwich, and they called to tell me they were out of beef sandwiches, and asked if I wanted a chicken sandwich, I said okay. They showed up almost two hours later, called me instead of ringing my doorbell, and when I went out the only thing the driver said was«This was very far», handed me the food and left. I opened the order and it was completely wrong, so I thought I got someone else’s order. I called them and mentioned this, they just said«let me talk to my manager» and hung up. After five minutes of no call back, I remembered I had the driver’s number, so called him. He turned around and came back to me, I gave him the other order, he gave me the new one, I said«sorry about the misunderstanding», he said«it’s okay», turned and left. The sandwich was okay, but I’d also ordered the Chicken Mushkaki, which was 11 dollars, and came with the smallest skewers of chicken I’ve had. The sandwich came with fry’s — the fry’s were soggy, dripping with oil, cold and raw, as if they put it in the fryer but forgot to turn it on. I got soggy potatoes, basically. The chicken wings were also tiny, dry and bland. This is the first review I’ve written about any restaurant, but this experience made me want to urge anyone around here to not order from them — at least with delivery, this place doesn’t seem to understand what they’re doing.

My family and I really enjoyed the food here. It is great food for a café, and especially in the area of this neighborhood. The plates are good sized for the price and they tasted outstanding and the flavor is reminiscent of Mediterranean /African style flavors that is advertised on Unilocal.About the only thing I would change with our plates tonight, and we ordered 3 or 4, was the beef on the kabobs(beef Mushkaki), little fatty and chewy, but even they had great flavor to it as well, so I still killed it off! This looks like it is a family owned restaurant as well, so it is a little slow getting your food sometimes, but it is well worth the wait!!! Since they forgot about our pita’s for a minute, the gave us some complimentary items, which was cool. Everything is freshly made here so it takes a minute, but most foodies won’t mind the wait for great food. The pitas are freshly made as well and they are fabulous as they come out nice, warm and soft. The juices that are in this shop are from a can, but they are nice tasting fruit drinks«fresh tasting». The pasta and rice side dishes were so good that we ordered them to go with us for the next day, they were outstanding in flavor and I would recommend them to anybody. The chicken was grilled nicely and not dry or overcooked, and the fries came out crispy. There’s not a lot on the menu here, but what they do have they do really well. Will definitely come back here to eat again, as our plates were completely empty when we left, which is always a good sign!

I remorse fully drop them to 2 stars as they are just majorly lacking in customer service, sanitation and cleanliness. The food is always excellent but after tonight’s awful experience I just don’t think I’m gonna come back. Cook is out front wiping her face, cashiers friends are running around in my way. Cashier told me to wait while he took a phone call!!! I’m pissed! I have told them 10 times about this and still management doesn’t nothing about it! Gosh dang it this place is either really great or really sucks. Just a shame.

We had a little time to have lunch with my friend. The cashier guy(waiter) was absolutely quik and polite. That was my first time to have lunch here. The café looks like a small but all food are amazing!

I really don’t know much about African/Middle Eastern food but I like the food here. Every time I come here the service is great and the employees are so willing to explain what is what. It’s a small little place but there’s enough seating and some outside too. I’ve had the I believe it was a mango drink for about a buck and it was pretty good. I had the lamb plate and it was good with a ton of rice but the lamb was a little greasy. I also tried the chicken plate and I was very happy. They also have a few smoothies which I thought was different because it’s a Middle Eastern restaurant. Well I really like this spot and will be back.

WOWWWWW!!! This place is a gem in the San Diego culinary world. Stumbled across it on Valentine’s Day after going to a play in Oak Park and we were thrilled with every aspect of our experience. The owner has a dynamite personality and is very accommodating and the food is magnificent! We had the mango shake, fish & chicken sambusas to start and the goat & salmon plate for our entrees ~ Delicious and definitely well crafted cuisine made with love and intention ~ The coconut cake is one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted. Can’t wait to go back and see whatz up with the lamb as I’m sure it too will be absolutely amazing as well. Money well spent and looking fwd to returning soon :))))

Love this place. Service: Friendly and super attentive, Employees are on point, very qualified staff. They knew exactly what was in each plate and assisted us in choosing our Entrees. Food: I decided to go with their Philly Cheesesteak and my wife got the Chicken Mushkaki. Food was just delicious. Our order came out pretty fast. The food is local so it’s always fresh, menu has a lot of variations. Atmosphere: Comfortable, clean restaurant. Great place for a anyone. There is outside seating available if you want, free wifi. Family owned so they care! Overall a awesome place. Most of all, the service was truly exceptional. You’re in for a treat! BONAPPETITE! Believe the hype of the place.

Deeeeeeeelicious! My family came in one night and ordered the Chicken Mushkaki(with salad and rice) and the Goat Feast Royale(«Federation style» — with pasta, rice and salad). The meal ended with a warm slice of coconut cake. Everything was delicious and the owner and his family were hospitable, kind and attentive. We couldn’t have asked for a more delightful family dining experience.

My Husband And I go often to dinner to a mexican place around the corner from Café Royale and we always use to look inside and today we finally decided to give it a try… We walked in there was a young women waiting for her order and a man eating… We took a glance at their drinks. My husband didn’t want to order anything so I ordered a Vanilla Frapuccino and a tiramisu to go, Total was $ 9.
The guy in the register told a guy that was sitting in the booth(with a woman, I believe she was the cook) if he could make a vanilla frapp, he looked up and with a grunt got up and made his way into the coffee are. I should have just canceled the order but I really wanted to try something from this place so I didn’t… We ordered at 5:34 and didn’t walk out of there until 5:40 something –_– big turn off… the Frapuccino was more like a flavorless iced ice coffee with bottled whipped cream. It tasted like cold water with a hint of vanilla. I stirred the cream in well to see if that would give it a little flavor but it didn’t… The tiramisu was good overall just somewhat dry… If I ever do return it would be only for the tiramisu and I would get it to go since it’s already pre-made, Or maybe in the future I will give it a second chance who knows… FYI: from what I read on the reviews this place use to be good when they opened until like a year ago. The owner used to be more present and the workers actually cared… Hopefully the owners do something while they still can. Hopefully they get it together… So I give it a 2 starts rating because of their tiramisu only… Everything else I experience was a fail… Sorry…

This new Café offers unique flavors from east Africa; including some excellent Ethiopian coffees and new age smoothies. That being said, I ordered a cup of that Ethiopian coffee with steamed milk, and couple of ground chicken Sambusas, and a Grilled Beef Wrap with Fries. The Sambusa’s arrived fried to a golden brown, crispy yet doughy on the inside( ). The ground chicken, although a little dry, had very good flavors familiar to East Africa.( ) I added some of their house made medium tamarind base sauce and it went very well with the sambusas( ) They also make beef, fish, and vegetables sambusas. They cost .85 each or 4 for $ 3.00. The strip beef wrap was very good and came filled with a mildly seasoned tender beef and a side of well fried and seasoned fries( ). The wrap came with some tender grilled peppers, onions, and lettuce all sitting on a house sauce and warm pita bread( ). All the ingredients went well together, but what sent this wrap over the top, was there spicy serrano pepper sauce. It was slightly spicy but packed with fresh serrano flavor( ). Please ask for this sauce when you come here. The combo with the wrap fries, and coffee was only $ 6.99. Like I said earlier, the coffee was great. It was exceptionally smooth and rich. The gentlemen who was here when I came in was very friendly and communicative regarding his product. They in the process of upgraded the menu by adding more options, so I look forward in returning.
