Sis brought me and co worker here two weeks ago. I wanted to get a Starbucks coffee and Batter Up happened to be right next door. Sis has tried their cupcakes before and liked them. So she wanted to treat us to one. Yes they are a small location but I wouldn’t compare it to the size of a restroom. Their cupcakes are showcased right up front but unfortunately there didn’t seem to be much inventory left by the time we got there. There were probably 3 customers sitting inside enjoying their cupcakes. Sis got two Red Velvet and two Mint Chocolate. The c/c aren’t cheap at $ 3.25 but tell me another bakery that sells them for cheaper b/c $ 3 seems to be the going rate these days. We headed to Starbucks next door so that I could enjoy an iced coffee while they enjoyed one of the cupcakes. The both of them really liked the red velvet — the cake was quite moist and the frosting wasn’t too sweet. The mint chocolate was pretty(especially with the Andes candy on top) but sis said the kiddies didn’t particularly like this flavor of cupcake. The packaging was nice and I appreciated how the girl faced the cupcakes towards the front as she noticed I was taking pictures. And I also quietly appreciated the scripture that was written inside the box when we opened the box that evening. Made me remember the meaning of Easter in a nice way. I’m sure we will be back to try another flavor soon. It is a small bakery so I give them props for staying alive when there’s such massive competition out there(what’s up Sprinkles, I’m talking to you). Parking wasn’t too bad and again SB is right next door so it’s great to grab a cupcake and then head next door to sit in the air conditioning at Starbucks.

Cupcakes are average at best. We got a sampling of 4 different kinds for my sons birthday and they were dry. I know custom cupcakes can be expensive and I don’t mind paying the price but for the quality, these aren’t worth it.

When will I learn, that not all strip malls are created equal. The strip mall is not my favorite place in Rancho Bernardo because it’s just plain bad with the parking arrangements and I visit it «ONLY» because of places I know that are good and worth the battle. Therefore, I usually have blinders on looking for anything else. I travel there and I quickly get out.(Before the anxiety ridden people crash into my car) This is in my neighborhood so I am not just a visitor, I know it well as I have seen the aftermath of some crazy two car crashes that happen here. I was involved with an incident with my bank here. Not my fault the ATM guy changing the machine damaged my car door and that was a nightmare to resolve all of that. I discovered Batter Up Cupcakes not because of Unilocal, but I happened to glance over in the direction and noticed their sign as I was leaving a restaurant I visit frequently almost next door to this place. The shop is hidden kind of in a corner and if the sun is at the right position in the day, I think you will miss it. What attracted me to this place it said baked and made fresh from«scratch» daily. Since I felt like trying something new… I wandered in looking confused by the signs that are posted there that said«Home and another said Visitors.» Well, after me asking all my questions and getting a very warm welcome by the young and enthusiastic young woman there named, Akriti I chose three of them, because by this very, very remote chance I had one of their coupons that said buy 2 and get 1 free. I had the Red Velvet, which is a member of the«Home Team» meaning that one that have everyday. Of course I had to try the Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Butter cream also a member of the«Home Team.» I also selected the Carrot Cake a «Visitors» meaning that they have that one on Saturdays and Sundays. The taste and flavor of all these are truly worth the price of admission as they are very decadent, rich and moist… something you are going to enjoy eating. I usually shave off a lot of the icing on my cupcake but admittedly I left more than normal on these because that Vanilla Butter cream was exquisite I buy cupcakes very infrequently, like every 8 months or so. Thanks Akriti for making my visit enjoyable and you are right this place has some excellent cupcakes. Based on your excellent customer service skills, I have already recommended this place to others. I highly recommend this place for your special cupcake needs. Interesting concept in marketing this I wish them continued success…

I went on the hunt for a gourmet cupcake that was delicious and worth it’s cost in flavor. This rare act had my husbands total support, so he funded it. LOL we went Here first due to its proximity to my house, The taste of the Cupcakes here were light, flavorful and just straight up yummy. they were moist and the cream cheese frosting on my Red velvet was as close to perfect. Disappointed by the daily variety my review is quality over quantity when treating yourself @ BUC. Expect what you pay for they are a specialty item and worth there price

I like a good cup cake, but it has to be memorable, and for good reason, the Fauxstess or their version of a Hostess that is only served on the weekend, has me craving one right now as I write this review. The cupcake did look similar to Hostess, but it flavor and texture was fare superior than any Hostess cupcake.( ) The chocolate was very rich and thick, but was very creamy and packed with a deep chocolate flavor.( ) The inside continued with that deep rich chocolate flavor and its texture was very moist and pleasing. I liked the white creamy filling in the center because it was sort of refreshing, and it helped balanced the richness of the chocolate, with its cooling affect.( ) A great choice for my because I love chocolate on chocolate. The cup cake was $ 3.25. The owner was here at the time I came and she was quite friendly and informative. They keep a variety of standard flavors, but also add seasonal types and such. Bring me a memorable cupcake and I will do a jig.

I really enjoyed their red velvet cupcake, and banana foster cupcake. I also tried a handful of french macaroons. Here’s how I would rate the macaroons, «10» being the tastiest: Lemon macaroon = 8 Tangerine macaroon = 7 Nutella and vanilla = 7 White tea macaroon = 6 Green tea with blueberry = 5 The texture on the macaroons was spot on with most of them. Some were too chewy though. I really liked this place and will be going back.

Not too impressed with the cupcakes. I’ve had a lot better tasted cupcakes before. However the lady who was serving me was nice.
