After trying a few free classes around town I walked into RPBJJ and immediately felt this place was different. Rodrigo personally showed me around the gym and answered all my questions. It is a very welcoming, clean, and family-oriented environment. There is something for everyone at every level from the weekend warrior to the serious world class competitor. You might never play a game of basketball with Michael Jordan but you can train with multiple world champions in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at RPBJJ.

Professor Rodrigo Pinheiro provides top of the line instruction – simply world class! He was molded and shaped by the hot iron of the Amazon Jungle, and comes from the direct line of Gracie Jiu-jitsu. From my very first day Professor Rodrigo knew my name and treated me as part of the family. He genuinely loves and cares for all of his students. The RPBJJ family is welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner…

Rodrigo takes an interest in each student and provides a healthy environment to learn and grow. I highly recommend the the gym to all my friends and family. Great students who respect the art and their training partners.

I was in San Antonio for a week and I got the opportunity to train here and I was very impressed. The instructors were knowledgeable and polite. The students were also inviting to train with. If I’m in San Antonio again I will definitely come back. If you are looking for a clean high quality gym in San Antonio this is it!

BJJ Potranco, great instructors but not really bully proof bjj for kids as stated on the entrance, more sport bjj. True the old instructor is gone & they would not let anyone out of their contract, gym is in limbo … Bjj is a journey so who knows maybe it will all work out for the better.

After researching jiu jitsu schools in the area, I settled on «checking out» Rodrigo Pinheiro Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the great reputation of the school. They have Gi and NoGi classes. The instructor himself(Rodrigo) is from Brazil, trained at the Gracie Humaita Academy in Rio under world champion Royler Gracie, received his black belt from world champion Saulo Ribeiro and is himself a world champion who’s won several championships from NAGA(North American Grappling Association) to Gold at the Pan-Ams to Gold at the Master and Seniors World Jiu Jitsu Championship and regularly competes in everything from local and state tournaments to ADCC as well as MMA fights(currently holds a 4 – 1 record in MMA). I train here 3 times a week, sometimes more. Not only is the instruction top notch, but the place is very friendly and definitely has a family/team atmosphere. Everyone, from the high belts on down, are quick to offer advice/help and make you feel very welcome. They also teach«bully-proof» jiu jitsu classes for kids of all ages(I’ve seen kids from the school as young as 6,7,8 compete – and win). Classes begin with a warm-up(jogging, basic drills, varying between push-ups, stretching, shrimping, shoulder-rolls, etc.) then move onto drilling technique and leaving the last half hour or so to rolling(sparring). It is a great cardio workout(you will get in shape/stay in shape). People of all ages train here. I train with females, teens, guys in their 40s and 50s(who are REALLY good by the way, in fact one of them is an awesome black belt with a gold Pan-Am medal in his 40s), small guys, big guys, etc. I can’t say enough good things about the place. Aside from Brazilian jiu jitsu, they also train Muay Thai with UFC veteran Pete Spratt. What more can I say? Lots of fun, great training, friendly atmosphere. I was hooked the first week and look forward to training and progressing.
