The aroma of down-home BBQ will get you drooling as you walk in the door and the extra large portions will keep you satisfied. The Old Smokehouse is run by Kevin and Alex who will greet you with some of the friendliest service in south Texas. These men know their way around a brisket! You can get lean or marbled and the sauce adds just the right amount of sweet to the beef without being sugary or syrupy-thick. Sausage was moist, not gristly, with just the right amount of pepper. The sides are homemade. We tried the coleslaw, potato salad, green beans, and creamed corn; all were delicious. There’s no excuse not to stop for BBQ: if you are on a tight schedule you can get it to go by the plate or pound.

The food was great. We really enjoyed the ribs and brisket… the bbq sauce was tangy and sweet and made a great addition to the moist and flavorful meat. The sides, cream corn, green beans, potato salad, and pinto beans were really tasty. The sweet potato pie and pecan pie were delicious. We loved the quaint atmosphere and the service was down-home, thanks for the Memphis flare. Great stop after a long ride…

Small family-owned atmosphere. No frills, very straightforward, all of their pride and work goes into their food, which shows! Brisket was possibly some of the best I tried in San Antonio(been to County Line & Rudy’s). Side dishes were fairly unremarkable, which was a little disappointing(hence the 4 stars). Prices are affordable. Very family friendly. They deliver and their service is quick and friendly. Great to stop by for lunch or to grab a plate to go. Main line server was very friendly and eager to explain their menu including their specials to me. Courteous and professional. Had the brisket w/2 sides, was very satisfied and happy when I left. It’s a very unassuming storefront in the middle of a stripmall type area, but definitely very underrated. Give them a shot and try their brisket, and you will not be disappointed! :)

Can’t believe I left this for so long with no review! We hit this place while driving from California to Florida and man was it good! They take bbq seriously here and you can tell that before even getting inside. The smell of a good bbq joint permeates the parking lot and surrounding area and beckons you in. Inside is ano nonsense, no frills restaurant seating area, but the food is really what counts anyways right? We were politely greeted by staff behind the counter, and you could clearly see all the food and prep, which I always like. The portions were huge. I recommend the ribs, chicken and corn, but I doubt you can really go wrong. Overall: A Hole in the wall bbq worth bragging about.

Been driving past it for 3 years and finally decided to try it, wish I wouldn’t have waited that long! Simply amazing. BBQ sauce is so dang good. 3 meat plate for $ 14 is such a good deal, they give you so much food. Ignore the shopping plaza it’s in, this BBQ is hands down best BBQ in San Antonio!

Completely shocked I walked in said it was my first time here an the gentleman behind the counter said ok so, then I said ok never mind can you give me a recommendation or what’s popular here. The same gentleman who by the way was NOT wearing a name tag an did not introduce himself at all to us simply said you can read the menu that’s what we have he then followed by if you want a recommendation pick something off the menu I can’t give less then one star but I highly recommend you get new personnel bcuz it made me an my family leave w/o eating bcuz they were so RUDE.

I’ve been here twice now and I got the lunch brisket plate. It was flavorful, but a bit dry and the sauce portion was a little skimpy(I had to put more sauce on it when I finally got home). I tried the sweet corn as well as the potato salad sides. The potato salad was UH-MAY-ZING, the cream corn on the other hand was just meh. It didn’t have much flavor or seasoning… it tasted like slightly sweet, congealed flour and milk. Overall for the price it was a good deal and I can see myself coming back, maybe I’ll try out the ribs next time.

Bummer-que. I had a brisker and ribs combo plate. Only 1 rib was worth eating– the other two were dried up end pieces with very little edible meat. The brisket was so-so. Not a quality cut– tight and chewy. I sadly ate the cole slaw and potato salad because I was really hungry.

This is a real old times bbq place, the brisket is ok good smoke, but kinda chewy, the bbq chicken is super good, and so are the pork ribs, even though they where out of them this trip, the sides? Potato salad, good, coleslaw good, pinto beans hard and un flavored, This place was a hole in the wall place, kinda grumpy and grudgy Hit and miss on ribs, hit if you get them, miss if you don’t Staff friendly

I am sitting in there parking lot after these people literally ripped me off for approximately 20 – 30 bucks. Told me I was getting a better deal. I only wanted 2 sides to begin with but got 3 with there screwed up deal and left without the chopped bbq. So technically I was probably ripped off for more like 40.00. And they just walked away in stead of helping me. Well I’m done with this place and so is the medical hospital I work at. No more free lunch for my workers from here.

It was pretty good. Brisket didn’t have enough bark and the smoke ring was pretty light. Ribs were the best. Friendly cooks. Overall, I’d say this is above average BBQ.

Amazing little place! The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is delicious. The portions are huge, so take your appetite. We took our family, ordered the family deal and we ate it for dinner one night and lunch the next day! My little tip is get the creamed corn. It will change your life.

For me, just an okay BBQ place… The best part was the cole slaw. The sauce is interestingly sweet and very thin. I couldn’t decide if I liked it or just wanted some sauce for my meat. The outside of the ribs was almost jerky like it was so tough. Everyone has their style of BBQ, this one wasn’t for me but it might be for you!

My boyfriend and I have been looking for a good Barbecue place in San Antonio and I’ve read some good reviews about this place so we decided to come and try it out. I ordered Combo D: 2 pork ribs, sausage, with 2 sides(cream corn and potato salad). My boyfriend had Combo C: 2 pork ribs, briskets, with 2 sides(cream corn and pinto beans). The Brisket was really yummy! I’d give it a 8.5! It was very tender and juicy and their barbecue sauce really complemented it well. Sausage was also amazing and I’d give them an 8! It’s real crispy when you first bite into it and then the inside was juicy and very tasty. The texture and that smoky flavor/smell won me over with this one and the other Unilocalers were right, they are fantastic. Cream corn was good, my boyfriend wasn’t very fond of it but personally I liked the simple taste of the sweet corn. Pinto beans were good also but the ones we got were kind of cold. The potato salad, I did not like as much because of the sour after taste to it and I know some people like it flavored that way but me personally, not as much. The pork ribs, we were disappointed with. It was over cooked and we couldn’t chew it off! The outside was so chewy and hard, I had to just peel a good amount of it off to eat the rest of the inside of the ribs. It was difficult to swallow it down because it was dry and hard but apparently from the past reviews that I’ve read, they were super tender and fall off the bone type of ribs! I’m not sure if we just got unlucky today with the ribs but we weren’t satisfied with them. Overall, the place was a nice little barbecue place with an old school feel to it. The people that’s running this place is so nice and I’d say It’s a good environment for families to come and to maybe perhaps watch sports games!(Today’s Sunday football so we came here and few people were already dressed in their jerseys enjoying their food and the game). The price here isn’t bad at all for the amount of food you get, and I will be coming back to this place and definitely get the brisket and sausage again and also try other new things out!

The portions here are huge! My friend and I ordered 2 «lite» platters and couldn’t finish them. We got the marbled brisket and beef ribs. Both were fantastic! The brisket was so tender. The beef ribs were very flavorful. The barbecue sauce wasn’t as good as I had hoped for but I added a little tobasco sauce in it and it was great. I recommend anyone that eats here to try the marbled brisket and beef ribs!

We are new to San Antonio(via WA state). My husband and I had been out running errands and such, when hunger/starvation struck. My Bae is all about making me smile. So he asked what I wanted. Almost a week in the Lone Star state and all I wanted was some good BBQ. I thought Jim’s was a BBQ spot so we went there. But once we saw the menu — we realized it was not about BBQ. The waitress overheard us and sent us straight to Old Smoke House. The décor is nothing fancy, but customer service from the gentleman behind the ordering window was great! He was cutting up brisket and had us sample some. Enough small talk: I had the chicken & sausage, my hubby had the ribs & brisket. It was delicious and I even had a pickled jalapeño to dress it up! You guys have great smoked BBQ! Thanks for the hospitality.

this is a cool little place, but if youre not looking for it on fredrickburg, you will surely miss it. The place smelled good from the outside, so I was anxious to get inside. Quaint little joint, not small but not big either. The menu was huge, but not really placed in the best spot for you to look at it(especially if there is a line). The guy who helped me was cordial, and cut my angus beef ribs right in front of me. What I liked about my interaction was that he asked me where I wanted him to start cutting. you know when you go somewhere and they give you those little baby ribs when you really want the big ones? hate that. anyhow, I asked him to start on the big side. When I asked for a pound he cut a little more than that, but they looked so good I didn’t care. he even threw in an extra rib. Real nice guy. The ribs also came with a few pieces of bread and a side of bbq sauce. I got these badboys home and opened the box. they were huge. I took my first bite… DONOT dare desicrate these ribs by putting bbq sauce on them first. I did not need bbq sauce at all… I ate them as they were. the flavor! oh man I cant describe it but these were seasoned very well with a dry rub. Like I said, no bbq sauce was needed for these and there was plenty of meat on them. For what I got it was like 20 something bucks… yeah it was pricey. But, sometimes you just have to pay for the good stuff you know? Ill def be back to try something else.
