I’m giving this bar/club 4 stars because of the amazing talent that the singers/musicians/staff have! Why an amazing time! Howl at the Moon has a $ 10 cover charge, and drinks are very pricey. I didn’t see a food menu, but I saw several people eating bar snacks, so not sure if they stop serving food after a certain time or what. This place was extremely crowded and we lucked out in finding a table of a couple who had just left. Otherwise it may have been standing room only.

Although the atmosphere was good and the music was great, they advertised drink specials on their tables, but refused to recognize the advertised specials if you weren’t a part of a «happy hour group.» If that were clearly stated on the advertisements I would’ve been fine with it; however, no where on any form did it state this. What a rip off this place is!!!

Be aware that if you have a server come to your table for drinks that you continue ordering from them. Had a horrible experience with the bartender. It got so busy and crazy that I didnt see my server for awhile. When my friends arrived they ordered drinks from the bar. We ended up ordering one of their famous bucket drinks(Painkiller). It was delicious! Very much worth the price and plenty of straws to share. By the time we were done, I decided to buy another for our group. Since I hadn’t seen my server in quite sometime I decided to order from the bar. My server took my card to open a tab in the beginning and returned it to me after he ran it. I could’ve sworn he said I could order from him or the bar since I had a tab open. Mistake! After ordering another bucket at the bar I returned to the table and left my friend behind at the bar. Not a few minutes later the bartender comes to us asking who was paying for the bucket and that they didn’t find my name, so I told her I should have a tab open with a server and that I was told I could order from wherever. She told me that wasn’t their policy and that she knows he wouldn’t say that. In other words, I was basically lying… Not cool. I’ve never felt so insulted before(and I’m pretty hard to insult). After finally finding my server, we were able to have him add the bucket to my tab. I ended up speaking with the bar manager outside, told him what occurred and he was very professional and understanding about it. He offered to take care of the bucket or get us some more drinks but I told him that was not necessary. I wasn’t going to him for free drinks, he just needs to let his employees know how to approach or speak to your customers when something like this occurs. It sucks cause it was a total buzz kill and I couldn’t even enjoy our second round. The musicians were alot of fun and kept the party going. For the most part, great tunes and energy but not so much on the bartending/serving. I understand it’s a busy atmosphere but what else would you expect from a weekend crowd? I don’t see myself returning after this. It’s a shame cause I would’ve given this place a 5.

Came here for one of the nights of my friends Bachelorette weekend and it was the best thing ever. We came on a Friday night for the happy hour and ended up staying for hours because and it was so fun! It was pretty packed but our group of 9 managed to squeeze in two tables. The drinks were great, especially just for a few bucks, and the band was awesome and so talented! After each song they would rotate instruments and I just couldn’t believe it. Every single one of them could play the piano, drums, guitar, AND sing! At first it was really fun just watching and singing along but later in the night everyone started dancing. Even the waiters were dancing and had a choreographed type of line dance which was super cute. Definitely a fun spot to check out in San Antonio. Can’t wait to see how Pete’s is in Austin.

With the caveat that this place is fun and cool most of the time, the attention to details was deplorable. It was my friend and colleague’s 31st birthday and after a very difficult day with his ex we came here specifically to cheer him up. The typical song request is $ 1.00. I put down $ 20.00 just for a song and a happy birthday shout out around 9:45 pm. Midnight rolls around and he received nothing. The only excuse and solace the band could give me is a half hearted apology, no refund and a demonstration of sheer incompetence. Thanks for making my friend’s day better. Additionally the ironically dressed nerd bartender was insipid. She threw out my half filled drink twice and instead of replacing it for free, double charged me for two drinks she threw out twice. My advice, order slim, don’t have high expectations and one should be ok. Look, I love San Antonio but had you pulled this in San Francisco you would go out of business.

Hubby and I came here on a weekend trip to SA. I will not be back. Paid $ 20 to get in, the place was packed with no seating anywhere. They had flyers laying around for a Happy Hour special. We ordered drinks off the list and were asked for drink tickets(first 2 drinks for $ 1.00 each). I told her we didnt have any and asked where to get them. She just walked away. I tried to get someone to explain the«Happy Hour» special but no one would. Just kept saying«you need tickets». We finally got a table, I was behind a post though so I couldnt see the stage. The music was ok. Its not a dueling piano bar as advertised though. More like 5 people taking turns playing the piano, guitars and drums. Its a live cover band. No crowd interaction only asking wait staff to come dance or stand on the bar and Cupid Shuffle.(I want my drink not your rear end in my face! This isnt Coyote Ugly…) When we got our table my hubbs cashed out his $ 4.00 tab at the bar since we had a waitress now. He didnt leave a tip(poor service). When everything cleared our bank today the tab went through at $ 8.00, not $ 4.00. Nice of her to give herself a 100% tip!!! We kept our copy so I know it was only $ 4.00. We wont go back. There are plenty of other places to go without cover and better service/drinks.

What a disappointment. Our group went on a Friday night expecting a dueling piano show. It turned about to be a play songs based on requests. Nothing more. No crowd interaction no ad Lib comments just average musicians with no comedic desire. We kept waiting for something to happen but gave up at 10:30. 2 stars because the guy walking around the bar selling whip cream was entertaining

Way too crowded to enjoy. Couldn’t see the piano players. Drunk, raucous, rowdy crowd, lots of bachelorette partiers. Had a coupon but still got charged one door fee. They added a drummer. My husband unashamedly hates female singers, of which one of the performers was, so lots of chick songs. He doesn’t want to go back tonight. I planned on coming here all three nights we are in town cuz that’s his favorite. The staff guy with the broom was a dancing mad man who was the most entertaining part of our experience there.

I’m not quite sure how to rate this place. It was on a Wednesday and my bf and I decided to stop by. I definitely felt like I was the youngest one here! The staff were dancing on top of the bar when I got here. I thought that was a little odd but the older crowd seemed to enjoy it. Nice piano playing and lots of people dancing. It was nice inside. The staff wasn’t very well trained and seemed to lack manners and the liquor seemed overprice. Overall, if I was 20 years older and needed a place to drink this would be the place.

Rude staff! Expensive drinks and dirty bathrooms, went to Pat Obriens piano bar after leaving here and was treated respectfully! Clean bathroom and great staff! Wouldn’t think of going back to Howl at the moon

A must do for an adult night out near the Riverwalk. I went with two of my gal pals on a Saturday night and we were able to use a coupon from a tourist brochure/map to save each of us the $ 10 cover. We got there early, around 9ish, and it wasn’t too crowded yet. There was a lot more piano dueling and a much tamer crowd. As the night progressed the crowd got younger, drunker, and closer together. The musicians/performers are spectacular, it’s a blast singing along and dancing on the floor in front of the stage. I was lucky enough to witness a bachelorette there whose friends tipped to have her come up and do the raunchy hokey pokey. I would recommend going for one of the bucket drinks to split with friends, just for the novelty. They lost a star because the drinks themselves are actually pretty expensive and not very strong. I’m glad we pre-gamed a bit at the hotel before showing up. They’ve got shot girls walking around with $ 3 test tubes that honestly, probably have more alcohol in them than did the $ 6 vodka and club I ordered. I would definitely consider going back again the next time I’m in San Antonio — it’s a lot of fun!

Well, this is the kind of place that sells thong underwear in the lobby. If I wanted to buy undergarments, I’d have gone to an establishment where that was their sole purpose. Cover charge was $ 10, and it was definitely not worth it. One bottle of beer cost $ 6.25, so I’d hate to see what a mixed drink cost. The dueling pianos cranked out today’s hits one right after another, with zero interaction from the crowd besides drunken hooting and hollering. The singing was forced and«yelly», if that’s a word??? It’s also so ridiculously packed in there that I don’t think anyone was dancing. I couldn’t see, or move, to check out the dance floor. When we went outside to the patio, there was a giant cloud of smoke, so, forget going outside to enjoy the night air unless it’s to enjoy what’s already been expelled out of someone’s lungs. Spend your money elsewhere!

Not sure if there are any other dueling piano bar around but this one is right up my alley. They performed well, we requested songs that aren’t main stream and they somehow nailed. Our server is very attentive and great the only downside is that they don’t serve food, but I was told that Hard Rock Café comes every 30, 40 minutes to take orders and deliver. Note: female restroom is very clean a plus!

This bar is different from the bars I’ve been to, I think this was a great Texas experience for me. Cover charge was $ 5. The musicians are crazy talented. Although it was a little crowded, we managed to find seats and enjoyed a couple drinks along with the wonderful music. I love anything played on the piano! It’s amazing how they can play most the songs requested. And also, the little notes/phrases that could be written on the mirror is a cute idea! This is a very unique bar, loved the vibes. I’d come back if I’m ever in town again.

Returned, and had a great time. Same show more or less, but this time it seemed to be more about the crowed and less about the tips. We did put in a request and it was played right away, Server was great, never had a dry glass. It did not mean liquor only, glasses of water also. Great time and we will be back. Thank you.
