Wow. This place used to be THE place to be for the blondes in my high school back in the late 90s. Never went to Stargate back then, so I have no idea what it might have been like, but it certainly has come a long way. At some point in the past years, Stargate was bought by Hmong businessmen and now, it’s a Hmong dance-club. It’s located in a strip mall, right next to Planned Parenthood. If that one sentence doesn’t make you want to run away real fast, I don’t what will. In any case, there is plenty of parking space. Entrance fee was about $ 5 bucks. Once inside, there is a huge fantastic dance floor to the left and a bar right across from it. There are two rooms, and in this main room, they only play Hmong music that Hmong parents and Hmong FOBs enjoy(although I enjoy it too!). Most of the clientele in this room are either Hmong FOBs or older Hmong folk. Personally I find this transition into clubbing by older folks to be fascinating on an anthropological/sociological level. They didn’t have this sort of thing in the motherland country, that’s for sure. The second room is on the same level, just past the main bar. This room is much much smaller. It has it’s own bar too, and a hip-hop DJ. This is the«young» people’s room. So you’ll find the young Hmong kids in this area, 18, 19, 20 year olds. The hip-hop music is GREAT though. Love it. Can you imagine clubbing with your parents, uncle, or kids? lol. Well, I guess it’s the Hmong way. I doubt any of the kids come here with a parent or uncle in tow, but it’s always possible one might run into a relative! Personally, I had a great time. I loved that there was Hmong music playing –I mean, where else in the nation or the world, would you ever hear Hmong music at a club? I did spot a couple of non-Hmong people at Stargate, which was unexpected. If you’re feeling adventurous and like hip-hop or Hmong music, this is the place to check out.

The last time I was here was in 2008. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s still in existence, but it was the place to be on Wednesday nights.

I wish they had negative stars available on Unilocal… Don’t waste your time here! Its a filthy, trashy, and dirty place. I do give some props to the music but PLEASE save your money, time, and class by going somewhere else. Way too many children in this place

You have to give credit to a place that thinks its some prime time Hollywood joint. VIP is roped off for the king of the trailer park in Maplewood up the street. If you’re looking for a trashy good time it can be fun one or two times, but after that action like this can be found on the corner of Rice Street & Larpentuer Ave for free, or you could watch VHS reruns of Jerry Springer. Save your money for a place that deserves it.

Nothing great. Got my first run-by-groping. Way too crowded, too many little kids.
