This is a Hmong bar. Period. :-D It’s definitely a dive. There are a couple non-Hmong locals who’ll stop in, mostly to play billiards in the back. They have about three or four billiard tables that take up the left side of the room. The Hmong clientele are mostly in their 30’s and most of the people who show up there seem to know each other. There’s usually one or two bartenders who serve the entire place. Don’t expect them to know how to mix any drinks though, they only know how to fill your glass from the tap. Service is slooooow. The bar itself is a huge communal-like rectangular bar that takes up most of the area on the right side of the room. Despite so many Hmong people, it’s actually not that lively compared to other bars. Everyone’s pretty quiet and mellow overall. There’s a second floor where there’s a dance floor with a DJ playing hip-hop music. There’s another bar on the second floor, but again, don’t bother asking for mixed drinks, they haven’t the first clue on how to make a cocktail. Usually there will be security at this place, a big black guy, checking ID and presumably breaking up fights or throwing out people who are too hammered. As other Unilocalers mentioned, there is full-on Hmong meals served here(cash only). Despite this being a Hmong bar, don’t be afraid to check it out. They won’t bite, however, I think you’ll just get bored since it’s not the liveliest place. Kind of reminds me of hanging out in someone’s living room, basement or garage with an ice-cold beer in hand.

2 people just got stabbed recently. 1 died on the scene. This place is ghetto. It’s full of ex-gangstas who still think they are living in the 90’s. Very bad service. They have one bartender for everyone. It takes me like 20 minutes to order a drink. The bar is rectangular shape and is very inconvenient because there is no walking space. Don’t even think about going upstairs. You think the downstairs is ghetto, the upstairs is even worse. Every time I go in there, people are always eyeing me, thinking they know me from the past. Maybe they are thinking I’m someone they have a grudge against from the gang banging days in the 90’s. Guys, if you’re thinking about picking up girls from here, think again. On most nights it’s a sausage fest. But if you’re looking to pick a fight, this is the place to go. There will always be people in here that think they’re tough. They do serve your typical Hmong food, which I’m not a big fan of.

Not your typical bar because it’s got quality food and great prices. There’s lots happening, they have a the bar area, the pool tables in the back, a large area upstairs. And for Karoke lovers they have that too :) It’s a good place to hang out. Great neighborhood feel.

Moonshine might be the closest bar to my new house, about 3 blocks away. It’s a pretty cool place. It used to be called the Noose, if you remember that. But it’s a Hmong owned bar and about 80% of the clientele are Hmong. There are maybe 3 or 4 pool table, a couple of dart boards and several card tables. It’s a pretty laid back bar, there is a lot of seating around the bar and a few tables in the game section. What makes this bar special is the food. They serve awesome food that is served late. It’s restaurant quality Chinese food at a bar. Maybe it’s Hmong food or Vietnamese, I’m not an expert, but I can tell you that it is much better than anything you’d expect in a bar.
