Manny’s is a local pizza joint in St. Augustine with a surprisingly decent pie. We stumbled upon Manny on a cold winter night driving around St. Augustine looking for a bite. At first sight, it didn’t look promising. The place was dead empty and the only person inside was what looked like a bored college kid who was just waiting for the time to go home. Luckily, we were wrong. Our waiter showed up promptly and was very nice and helpful. The pizza was surprisingly good. New York style, paper thin and well baked, with a nice crust with good air pockets and light seasoning near the border. The sauce was decent, but wasn’t homemade from scratch. Cheese had good flavor and coverage. I would say a 7.5 grade overall. Pizza is one of the hardest things to review. It has too many styles, textures and it is more subject to one’s taste than anything else I know of. There are subtle nuances that define a good pizza, and although Manny will probably not change your perception of what can be done with pizza, it is a clean, nice local joint with a friendly staff that serves a decent good pizza. What else can you ask for?
