This place was filthy. Not sure what the actual name is but its the same location so, Kaula Island Grill/L&L(although despite the sign, I doubt as a franchise that this is an L&L anymore) is filthy! I walked in and no one else was there, dude asks what I want as soon as I walk in, I said I need a minute and that seemed to irritate him. Got the df shrimp which just looked sad. It was obviously frozen, and stale and I only ate one. Had to use a straw to drink my Hawaiian Sun because the can was so dirty I wasn’t putting my mouth on that. All the tables and chairs were dirty. There were black food marks all over the floor. It had obviously not been cleaned in quite some time. I’m concerned that I might have to cancel my plans for tomorrow, as I’m unsure of how this food will settle. This place needs help.

I’m a big fan of Loco Moco and have been craving it for days.. You can say I’m an expert on this dish. I did a search and this place came up. The store is located in a corner strip mall and the sign says L&L Hawaiian BBQ. I guess they haven’t changed the sign yet. I went in and I was the only one breathing, other than a one man operation behind the counter. He was very nice though. I took my Loco Moco to go. I could smell it through the bag and salivated at every whif. I opened up the bag and I was TOTALLY disappointed. Like a kid on Christmas not getting what he wanted. The patties were dinky flat, as if it was frozen(not fresh beef patties, the way it’s suppose to be). The gravy was ok and the macaroni salad was salty! The best part of this dish was the steamed rice. Who can screw up steamed rice right?! All in all, I probably will not come back here and I’m glad it is not an L&L.

I swore every time I drove by this was an L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, but when I tried locating it, this is what I found and decided to order anyways. The ribs were really fatty and didn’t taste very good. Feels like I could have chewed one piece forever. The chicken catsu was decent. But I did get a lot of pieces that were overlooked and looked like pork grinds. Macaroni was just ok. Service was good… I probably won’t be back, but hey you might like it.

We had dinner here the other day. Hubby had The Kalua Pork, Chicken Katsu and veggies. I had the chickenkatsu and thekids had loco moco and spam musubis. Food was excellent. The only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is because really need to update their sign to reflect the right name. We had passed the place up several times looking Kaula not L&L.

Im glad this place is here. Super glad. I work down the street from here at the TV station and grabbing grub here is one of the highlights of going to work. I would have to say they are better than L&L’s by far in Menu Selection and portion size. This joint feels more localized, more familiar than what the L&L food chain has become. They add more flavor and twist to their grub when i order and it never disappoints. My favorite is the Grilled Pork Chops. I also enjoy the Portuguese Sausage Musubi’s and Loco Moco. Bomb. It definitely feeds the island grub for sure!

My second time here of many more to come. I’m a new fan of hawaiian bbq since eatting here. Customer service is awesome. My first time there he stayed open later just so I could pickup. When we got there my bf realized he forgot part of my order. I was really upset as the spam masubi was why I wanted to go there in the first place. Even though they were supposed to be closed, he made it for me! I didn’t expect that. I really, applaud great customer service like this. First impressions are important. It made my first experience there a positive one and more than deserving of these 5 stars. –cheers

First off, don’t be fooled by the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue sign on the outside of the building. This is not L&L in quality, taste and portion size. Second, they had the doors propped open and there was nothing but flies in the restaurant. I was constantly swatting flies while I tried to eat. Third, the portion is small. I ordered the half katsu and half beef. I only had maybe 5 pieces of katsu and maybe 4 bites of beef. The macaroni salad was done in two bites. But they give you plenty of rice. $ 9.00 for this? A real L&L would have gave you more. Don’t waste your time here. You can be friendly all you want, but if the portions are small and the price is big, it doesn’t equal out.

So. I’m a bit confused… I was trying to come here last Friday and when I put the address into my navigation system, I saw that it was at the same location as L&L’s. It was close to 10am so when my boyfriend and I arrived, I was surprised that the signage said L&L’s hawaiian bbq. When this establishment was L&L’s, their hours were not consistent. It seemed that they had opened whenever they wanted to. When my clock had hit 10am, not surprised, that the restaurant was still closed. No sign of anyone walking in. All the parked cars were for the liquor store next door and the subway(I believe it was Subway). My boyfriend went into the liquor store and had asked if this place has always been L&L’s or if they have a new owner. The person working the front counter at the time told him that it’s the same hawaiian bbq place but open at different hours. I’m a bit confused because I’m not sure if I went to the right place, if my eyes were deceiving me and it was Kaula Island Grill or am I just missing something… =/

Good portions and friendly staff. I usually get the Mixed BBQ plate, but I also like the Chicken Katsu plate. I’d call to check if they’re open before heading that way. Their hours seem to vary.

Ey this place is a beast lol came for a bbq chicken combo plate and it was stacked! They give u a lot of chicken and little bit of cabbage which its usually the opposite at these other Hawaiian spots. The man running this place was kind of rude. I asked bout the freeze and he got defensive i was just asking because i made freeze for 7 years working at merlinos and wanted to ask a lil bout the freeze but he got an attitude so i stopped asking. I will be back here tho the food was freaking HOT! Which i loved cuz i hate cold food. Check this place out i bet u wont regret it.

Came in here for lunch one day and was pleasantly surprised. The cashier was very friendly and relatable. This is a small place with a couple tables and chairs, as it definitely caters to workers during lunch. But by far, the food was the most impressive. I ordered a seafood mix plate with kalua pork. The seafood consisted of two pieces of fish and three shrimps, all deep fried nicely and went well with the red sauce at the self-serve station. The kalua pork was mixed with cabbage and both created a great flavor that was quite reminiscent of Hawaii. The order also came with white rice and a scoop of satisfactory macaroni salad. It would’ve been interesting to maybe have some seaweed mixed in the rice to add a little more Hawaiian flavor and flair, but that’s just my humble opinion. Overall, this place does not disappoint! My coworker comes here three to four times a week for the Chicken Katsu. So apparently it’s pretty good!

1st — their menu says their name is «Kalua Island Grill» — okay, moving on. Tasty noms! I came in here today looking to cheer myself up with a little chicken teriyaki and this place did the trick.(See, I’m all nice and happy now!) I didn’t take time with the menu — I just walked up and said something succinct like, «uhh…chicken.teriyaki…bowl thingy? To go?» And the man was very polite and pointed out the sauces after I’d paid. Took it back to the office and was surprised to see big, juicy chunks of quality chicken. All the chicken is perfectly coated in sauce, but the rice is NOT soaked(which is great) and I was also pleasantly surprised by the carrots and brocolli. Yay! Thanks for ditching the usual soggy cabbage for some vegetables with some nutritional value. MUCH appreciated. They only get one star off because, for whatever reason, he let four togo orders stack up and then handed them out at once. That really makes it difficult to get out of their tiny parking lot all at the same time. And there’s the potential for a jam at the sauce station. Other than that, they’re GREAT and I will definitely be going back. Oh, great meal with rice, veg, chicken and I got a can of Hawaiian Sun — all for under $ 9.

I came in for lunch and was very pleased with the Hawaiian style food and good service. I just wanted to leave another positive review for the business.

When this was L&L I liked the food but avoided it because they took SO long to get the food to me; over a half an hour one time, which is longer than I get for lunch. I learned today that it’s no longer L&L(even tho the sign out front says L&L) so I thought I’d give it another try. I ordered the small Loco Moco with gravy, which was completely yummy and too much to finish, AND I got it only 5 minutes after ordering! I will be returning!
