I recently dined at the buckhorn location in sf and it was nothing compared to this location. I’ve been coming here for years since they’d opened. In terms of quality and service, nothing has changed. Their food is still good and service is still good. I always order the feast for two, ribs, and roadhouse steak salad. I know that sounds like a lot of food. lol. It’s hard not to order a lot when the whole menu is good.

So don’t get me wrong I love this places food… I do but the last few times I have been disappointed in the value. I feel that I pay a lot for my food and leave hungry still and that sucks, so I rated it a 4 instead of a 5. This place is great for catering. We used them several years ago for our wedding of 200 guests and their price point for catering was the best out there but on a day to day basis they are pricy. I have tried many things on their menu. Burgers are decent, the tritip sandwiches and sweet potato Fries(road house is my favorite) are amazing. It comes with a chuck of tritip so I suggest asking for it sliced so it’s easier to take a bite. Their roadhouse salad is delicious and even the half chicken and sides are always spot on. My family enjoys this place a lot I just wish they would bring back their old portions.

Tri tip sandwiches are delicious. Salads are meh. Small portions and extra $$ for meat puts you at a pretty pricey salad. Signed up for the 5stars rewards and they used to just have us check in electronically with our phone number. Well, the last few times the young lady taking our orders just wrote down our phone numbers on a small piece of paper and said they key it in later. 3 visits later and my balance on 5stars has not changed at all. So do not count on racking up those points for freebies.

Very disappointing! I’ve always liked my tri-tip cooked medium rare but when I got home, I found that my tri-tip was cooked almost well-done. Really? Can’t you understand what medium rare means when I asked for medium rare? Also, what I ordered was not worth it at all… a small piece of well-done tri-tip, a small piece of sausage, corn bread, beans and roasted vegetables for approximately $ 20. So NOT worth it at all. The whole order looked more like a $ 10.99 plate. Sad! Very sad indeed! :-(

I’m especially saddened to drop Buckhorn a star because I love, love, love them so much. Seriously, this is some of the best barbecue in town and one of the best all around eateries in downtown Sacramento. However, you DIDAWAYWITHTHEALLYOUCANEATRIBS. How could you? I thought you loved me? This weekend special was the driving force behind my friends and I bringing our posse down for an orgiastic bacchanal that usually resulted in them closing down the kitchen while we still consumed. I can’t tell you how much dough we’ve dropped specifically for this special, but it’s a lot. That’s why I took it so personally when you inexplicably took it away. Believe me, I still love your food across the board and will always be a loyal costumer, but this misstep bummed me out. Your ribs are the best in town!

Our son had prom last night in downtown Sacramento so after dropping him off we decided to go to Buckhorn for dinner. So glad we did. You order at counter and have a seat. We ordered the Sat. Special — Dinner for two, $ 25. 3 choices of meat, pulled pork, tri-tip and chicken. 2 sides we had mashed red potatoes/gravy and roasted vegies. 2 corn muffins. My hubby loves baked beans so ordered some on side. On the way to find a table we noticed some great looking salads. When the order came it looked so good. More than 2 can eat. After a few minutes we noticed the pulled pork was missing. After telling waiter, it was delivered quickly. I was going to get some bbq sauce but my hubby tasted it and said no need. It was the best pulled pork we have ever had and we have had a lot. We will return with our family crew soon.

I did not know that Buckhorn Grill was not a full service restaurant when we went for dinner. We were in the area and looking for BBQ and it came up in my Unilocal search. At first, I was a bit disappointed since it was my bday dinner, but I’m glad we stayed because I really enjoyed the food. My friend and I ordered the dinner special for 2 for $ 25 which included chicken, tri tip, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, grilled veggies and bread. Our meal could have easily fed 3 – 4 people. We certainly were unable to finish it between the 2 of us. The BBQ was tasty and plentiful. It was hard not to inhale starchy, carby goodness of the mashed potatoes and the grilled veggies were a perfect side to the smoky BBQ yumminess. I came back again for lunch and had the spring salad with fruit and nuts. I’ve never had honey lime dressing before but I want to do shots of it the next time I’m there. The salad had fresh sliced strawberries and apples as well as dried apricots, bleu cheese and walnuts. I’m seriously obsessed with this salad. If parking wasn’t such a challenge in the area, I would be there everyday. Buckhorn Grill is a casual dining place that is similar to Sonoma Chicken Coop in concept. You order your food at the front counter and they bring your food out to you. However, unlike Sonoma, Buckhorn’s food quality is much better and their pricing is comparatively cheaper. This location’s dining room is a good size and there is patio seating as well. They’re also close in proximity to some great places like Old Soul, Ginger Elizabeth, Make Fish and the Rind.

Want solid BBQ that’s a good bank for your buck? Then stop by Buckhorn in Sac’s handle district alleyway– a chain that’s famous for tri tip but also offers salad, ribs, burgers, and sides such as the deep fried roadhouse onions. This location has a few advantages over Vacaville: more upscale and more options for outdoor seating, a rewards system(five star), and close proximity to dessert such as Ginger Elizabeth. Parking is not too great though, get lucky with street meters or pay in the structure below. My favorite items here are the Tri tip, the chicken avocado salad(I customize to get rid of blue cheese), and the roadhouse onions. Expect the food to be salty and rich. Instead of dressing on my salad, I put a little drizzle of their sweet fire barbecue sauce. This place is fit for the luckiest carnivore in town!

We Just moved to Sacramento and boy am i glad i ran into this gem at the heart of downtown Sacramento. I ordered the feast for two and did not realize how much food it was and for a reasonable prize. Will most def. return. Service was outstanding and i was treated with respect the second i stepped in the establishment. Although i did not catch the gals name at the register but she was wonderful and also Lorenz who recommended the meal. Thank you and i will return and recommend Buckhorn to anyone.

The Buckhorn Grill is located on L Street close to several other eateries. When you enter, you go to the front counter and are immediately confronted with a number of tempting menu choices. If this is your first visit, you might find it challenging to make up your mind on your order quickly … with folks waiting behind you. Anyway, multiple attractive choices are a good thing. I ultimately selected the Krispy Chicken and Avocado salad. It was topped with a creaming honey-lime dressing. The chicken on the salad was fine. Not knowing this, my backup plan was to also order the chicken tenders … just to be safe(lol). I recommend the 3 piece chicken tenders with ranch dressing. Juicy, full of flavor … delicious. My lady went with the Jammin’ Salmon sandwich. The fish was grilled with bayou pepper and served along with tomatoes, lettuce and aoli. She said that it was quite good. The chardonnay and cab they offered us were OK. Service was OK.

In my opinion this is the best of all locations. The tri tip is perfectly cooked and sliced here. The food comes out in a timely matter and the outdoor seating comes in clutch on nice days.

Three stars for silly deception. I ordered a salad for lunch, having never been to this restaurant before and their salads display they featured behind the registers. I ordered some chicken salad thing because the display salad was large and really nice looking. What I received(and they bring you your food, so that’s nice) was approximately 6/10ths the size of the display. (Note, I didn’t say anything because I was with coworkers and didn’t want to be that guy.) The salad itself was good and the staff were very friendly. The ordering process took a very long time, for no observable reason.(I managed to order, pay and move on in about a minute.) What others ordered looked good and had good portions, so I’m not sure what the disconnect was with my order. Another salad(for someone else) was small, too. I didn’t order a lunch sized portion and was charged for what I saw in the display. In short, if I go back I’ll just get a meat dish. Thanks.

Update: the Roadhouse salad with tri-tip is to die for! The salad is already tossed so it may seem like you need more dressing but try it first! Never been until last night. Only place open late on a Sunday with French onion soup. Lorenz was a big help! He is definitely the fave of good customer service and excellent recommendations. They have an amazing French onion soup! We also ordered a side of fries that we added pulled pork, cheese, and crispy onions to with help of Lorenz. They have a variety of BBQ sauces. My personal favorite is the smokehouse. No line and a short wait on a Sunday evening with both inside seating and outside patio(note for dog owners).

Recalling the samples from the previous Handle District’s block parties, this was a memorable place added to my list as a «must try.» Don’t let the line was out the door necessarily fool you. It’s a order & pay 1st& seat yourself afterwards type of establishment. Although I can picture this place being packed during happy hour & lunch, it was quite quiet on this day. The service & setting were exceptional: The place is well kept & there was always someone checking in on us to see if everything was okay. After looking for the best deals at this place, we opted for the feast for 2 for $ 30.(Slightly different from the Dinner for 2 for $ 25). The portion sizes & flavorings did not disappoint. We had leftovers for the following day. A few things to note: The chicken was a bit on the dry side– some parts were drier than other parts. I ended up dunking the chicken in the beef juices or eating it with the beans. The sauce on the ribs was a bit too sweet & covers up the taste of the ribs. I’d probably request the sauce on the side next time. I loved the grilled veggies & the beans. I’d probably substitute the cornbread for veggies next time as well. Overall, I would definitely come back to try other things Buckhorn has to offer.

Love this place Came here for lunch a few times. If you come here with a group its best that someone who knows what they want, gives you their order and they go reserve and sit at the tables that will accommodate your party. Otherwise you may find that you will not be sitting together. you come in order and pay. they give you your little vibrating thing and when it vibrates you go up to the kitchen area window and grab your food. I love their salmon. It has this great smoky flavor, its moist, and NOT fishy tasting! The sweet potato fries are delicious too! This place is a favorite lunch spot. Not too pricey, and you get a good amount of food.

We had the Tuesday $ 20 piggy feast. It was just the two of us. There was enough food for 4 people. This is by far one of the great values in Sacramento. Excellent ribs, links, pulled pork with a side of sweet potato fries and Mac and cheese. The ribs were cooked to perfection and the pulled pork was magnificent. We had to get a to-go box. In addition, one of the hallmarks of Buckhorn Grill is the excellent management and crew. Jared(General Manager) and staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and special. Jared told me that he is going to be moving on to District Manager, so we may not get to see him as much, but he has instilled the force behind the excellent client service that this location is known for.

The Buckhorn Grill has delicious tri-tip and pulled pork, a friendly and casual setting, and reasonable prices. We stopped in to the Buckhorn Grill with a couple friends after enjoying the Deschutes Pop Up Pub last Saturday night. As we walked in, there was a small line… but that gave us time to peruse the diverse menu and decide what we wanted before getting to the smiling cashier. We ultimately settled on two orders of the Saturday Special for Two, which was a mixed platter that included pulled pork, tri-tip, chicken, roasted veggies, and mashed potatoes served with gravy, au jus, and a few sauces. We found our way to a pair of tables along the far wall after getting the self serve drinks from the soda fountain. We didn’t have to wait long before our server came out with two large platters of goodness. The tri-tip was fantastic! It was moist, tender, and had a beautiful black crust. The pulled pork was also very good. The veggies and potatoes were good too, but nothing to get excited about. This was a good find, I am looking forward to coming back and trying a burger!

I used to love Jack’s then I found this place. It’s much quieter then Jack’s and the AC is set at the perfect temperature. They also have seating outside if you’d like. They had just enough variety of salads to keep me happy. My favorite is the SPRINGMIXFRUITANDNUT(Spring mix greens with locally grown fruit and sweet walnuts, tossed with honey-lime dressing & topped with bleu cheese) I’m not a bleu cheese fan so I substitute it for another kind. They now offer a half salad that is the perfect size for me. I get a side of salmon and have them put it on a plate so it doesn’t wilt the salad. They have lemon wedges in the drink section and I use them to season my salmon. This is what I usually order and the reason I keep coming back. If I’m looking for a salad in the area this is where I go. You can also get a side order of tri-tip for your salad. That is what my companion usually gets. If you want a dessert they have 3 and they are hidden on a desert display. I always forget about them till after we’ve paid and sit down. You’ll see them as you pick up your food. They also serve wine. Drinks are from a fountain so you can drink all you want. They also have 2 types of tea, but no sweet tea. The service is pretty fast and we have time to get our drinks, table, and chat a little before our buzzer rings. I have tried their platter once and it was ok, nothing worth ordering again, but that was me. Parking is a bit tricky, but if you need to you can drop one person off and you can then find parking. I think in the evenings they might do valet, but I’m not sure. If you need it it’s worth looking into. If this place doesn’t do it the place next door or across the street.

The hubster came home last evening and wanted to try Buckhorn Grill for dinner. One of his employees raved about it. After what seemed like forever, we landed a parking space in front of Buckhorn. Outdoor seating ~score. Clean environment ~score. Nice selection on the menu ~score. We decided to split a combo platter with a half piece of BBQ chicken and a tri-tip steak. I ordered a side of sweet potato fries and he ordered the redskin mashed potatoes. When the dinner came out we were like«wow, where’s the tri-tip steak?» The half chicken was huge! After moving the chicken aside, there it was… a very thin, pale piece of tri-tip steak. There was a smear of barbecue sauce on top of the half chicken. Nothing on the tri-tip steak. Honestly I have had better pieces of chicken and steak. The sweet potato fries were just OK. The hubster would like to come back and try a burger, but it will take some convincing for me! Not a fan. I think it’s pretty expensive too. Our dinner was $ 24. On the upside, the sauces are not bad! One of the customers at the sauce station told me about the«special sauce» they put on burgers. He thought it was a combination of ranch dressing and the house BBQ sauce. He also said it was not at the sauce station, so be sure to ask for it at the counter where you pick up your meals.

I’ve been coming here for at least 6 years and every time I order the same thing — the Roadhouse salad. It’s mixed greens tossed in vinaigrette and topped with string beans, cherry tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, candied walnuts, fried onion strings. The portion used to be larger and I would share it with my mom for a meal, but now it’s more like a snack for two or entrée for one. Not complaints though because it’s still tasty. You can add meat to it for $ 3. Their tri tip has a nice grilled/smokey taste. I’ve tried their mashed potatoes and gravy as well, which I’d recommend. Basically you order at the counter and they give you a buzzer when your food is ready to pick up. There’s plenty of table and booth seating. Drinks and utensils are serve yourself. They have a membership/club where you get points and emails for promotions.
