I am so sad… I went to J&R’s today. My husband treated me to a milkshake… they have one of the best I’ve ever had… and I found out that they are closing… after 42 years… they are closing. WOW, I SUREAMGONNAMISSTHISPLACE.

This place is awesome. I got the single with avocado and american cheese. It was AWESOME. Date had a double with the same. We will go back. Food great, old dive place, owner was hilarious. AL/NL ALL Star game was showing. All in all, great.

Always look to Unilocal for suggestions of Mom and Pop restaurants when we travel. Not disappointed! Get the 1⁄3 lb burger combo if you want to save some $. A little pricey, but definitely worth it. The buns are buttery and crisp, patties juicy, condiments aplenty. The counter lady is very sarcastic and loves to harass people, which I enjoy.

Best burger in town, pricy but great for your buck. Not in the best area what so ever, but definitely worth the trip 2 the ghetto.

Pretty decent burger! Though there is room for improvements. I ordered the Avocado Burger bacon. I sat down in their little space inside and waited. The woman there was very nice, and she was also nice with my son who came with me to try them out. When in it was served, the avocado was kind of old and spotted brown in parts… so not very fresh. The bread was pretty good, went well with everything else and didn’t over-power the burger. That is especially impressive because the hamburger was pretty small and thin, which is my biggest complaint. It tasted decent, definitely better than fast food, but I wasn’t all that impressed. I just feel they could, and should, do more. But I’d still go here and recommend to others if they’re in the area and feel the need to chomp down on a burger, but there are other places in Sac that offer a better sized and better tasting home-made burger. oh, and they charged an extra dollar to use my credit/debit card. dislike 3.5 Stars

2 words… soul burger: a huge, mouthwatering burger patty + bacon+ pepper jack(added) + bbq sauce + a HOTLINK = absolute burger gluttony. one order of onion rings is actually a double. for once i couldn’t finish them?! the soft serve chocolate shake was an awesome taste of nostalgia, and the Pepsi sign board brought it all together. next time it’s the patty melt and fries’ turn…

I came here once a long time ago then I decided to go again today. I got the 1⁄3 lb cheeseburger with fries and drink. It was pretty delicious! There’s something about the beef patty; it’s really flavorful. It’s pretty much a heart attack burger though lol. It was greasy, but it was worth it! The fries were simple though. Next time I wanna try their Philly cheesesteak and curly fries and shakes! Definitely going back and telling people bout it! Yummmm :).

I wanted to kick my coworker’s ASS for not bringing me here sooner! I’m not sure what it is about their burger patties, but they are simply amazing and full of flavor. Pepper? Garlic? Who knows. I tried not to overanalyze it while attempting to wrap my mouth around my gargantuan Soul Burger — a burger with all the fixings, topped with a hot link, and smothered in barbecue sauce. Just perfect. I thought about that burger for the next 24 hours, then dragged my boyfriend there the very next day. On my second visit, I tried the Pastrami Burger, a bite of which I had coveted the day before. But you can’t really ask a coworker for a bite. That’s just weird, right? Right? Next time, the Jalapeño Burger!

This is my favorite restaurant in the South Sacramento area. The owners are the nicest people you’ll ever meet and the food is ALWAYS hot and delicious. You’ll never have a bad meal!

I took my 6 yr old son there on the 10th of Jan. He got a real kick out of the place. For him I ordered the kids meal with a cheesebuger, and I had the pastrami burger and onion rings. Very tasty! My son said his was better than McDonalds. I think Guy Fieri should have a taste of this place, cause I know I’ll be back.

They charge for a cup of water, outlandish soda refill prices, despite that, they cook a pretty damn good home style burger. The fries are great.

This is a total Mom and Pop joint that serves up a good juicy burger. They have the old school menu board that is jam packed with options for your burger along with tacos, hot dogs, chili fries, curly fries, onion rings and numerous drink options. They have a television almost as old as I am blaring the news. My mushroom swiss with pepper jack cheese was really good. The boyfriend’s double cheeseburger was enough for the two of us! I loved the sourdough buns. They were nice and fluffy but not overwhelming. I also like that they serve up a thicker cut french fry. I just like the nostalgic feel of it and it’s nice to sit out back and listen to chickens and geese in nearby areas while you eat your food.
