Food and flavors were decent, nice portions. Only ate on patio though… Nothing bad to say.

Been here multiple times and have loved it. I feel for the price you cannot beat it. The best Mexican restaurant in RO.

very large portions! we came here with a larger party(11 people total) and we were taken care of with smiles on their faces! I had the shredded chicken burrito and it was a monster! I could only eat a third of it! food is delicious!

Not much to say. Décor is nice. Everything else was perfectly average. Nachos were huge, though heavy on chips. Tacos good. Plenty of cheese on everything. Veggie burritos were rather tasteless. Beans and rice the same as everywhere. No wow factor.

The setting is very cutting edge, urban and trendy, the drinks are very reasonable and the staff is nice and friendly. This is great, specially when you’re running a restaurant. You need all the flair and prestige. But that all sorta ends when the food starts coming. I’m not gonna knock on the chips and salsa because it was at least decent. We ordered some guacamole to share and it was hella bland for some reason. We ended up scooping up guac with the chip then dipping it in the salsa just to help it go down a little easier. The menu was nicely laid out, items were selected to cater to «AMERICAN» taste buds. So we did the build your own combo dinner to at least have a sample of other things in their menu. I had two beef chimichangas and a chicken tostada. The food arrived and it was literally covered, excuse me, wrong word, SMOTHERED with cheese. Ate it and it was really bland, tried putting some of the complimentary salsa that aided the guac with its lacklusterness and it just wasn’t helping. The excessive use of cheese killed the whole dish. The meats were not seasoned very well either. For a spot in the main heart of Royal Oak, this spot needs to step up their food game. The dining floor crew is on point. The kitchen needs to invest in three things, seasonings, taste buds and skills. Smothering the whole plate with cheese isn’t the answer for better food. Better food is answer for better food. Weeeeeeeee!!! Follow me on Instagram @rodtorres3

Monterrey is absolutely consistent: the food is always hot, always brought quickly, and always mediocre. EVERYTHING tastes the same, whether you order chicken, beef, shrimp or cheese. Service typically ranges between acceptable and quite good.

I liked this place. One big complaint was the chips they served at first. Only a few full ones and the rest were scraps/small bits. Come on now. Guac was yummy and good price. I got the sour cream burrito and that was delicious, came with rice and beans on the side which I love. A little pricey with drinks but that is somewhat expected. Service was alright. I think overall value, it’s a tough sell. But if you like Mexican food and want some drinks, good spot for sure. Not sure what other options there are in Royal Oak for this kind of stuff.

Amazing taco’s here. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Even better they’re only $ 2 today, every Tuesday. #nomnomnom #calitaco

Chips & salsa was store bought not fresh. My silverware was dirty(dried clumped food on fork). The rice was awful a mix of dry clumps and mushy clumps. The ground beef in Joes tacos was flavorless never tasted jalapeño peppers. I was disappointed with the meal in general. Waitress was nice and attentive.

Not bad. By all mex food standards its a 2.5, but by detroit standards it maybe a 3.5 or 4. Good size portions; nachos were great entrees acceptable. Margaritas excellent(kids; never order the cheap margaritas, buy a premium on the rocks or don’t bother making a comment) certainly room for improvement but not a 1 star… That’s not fair.

After going here for the first time with my girlfriend after a movie about a month ago, I decided to go back and we tried it again. We must have had a few more beers last time because this time, we were disappointed. The food is nothing special. Very bland seasoning on both the chicken and the steak. My girlfriend got the vegetable fajitas and the veggies weren’t cooked all the way through with, again, little to no seasoning. My steak fajitas were halfway decent but the guacamole is nothing to write home about and the beans and rice both had no discernible flavor at all. The lone bright spot was the chips and salsa. I’m a sucker for chips and salsa. That is deserving of one star in itself. We finished our meal and ended up ordering a margarita and sitting there eating chips and drinking for another hour. I’ll give it another star because our server was excellent. All-in-all, I probably won’t go back there unless I’m REALLY in the mood for Mexican after a few beers across the street.

We have only been here once. That was enough. The service was ok but the margaritas and food was not good. Salsa did not seem home made, which is a must for me! Our food was nothing to write home about. My margarita tasted like premix syrup. Not good. It always smells great when we walk by but we were fooled. My husband and I both agreed it was not worth ever returning.

I agree with the majority ! This place should be closed. I feel robbed of time and money ! Dirty, food was tasteless and cold, drinks were watered down. Sorry i always feel bad about writing a bad review but i feel people should be warned don’t wast your time. The Server was nice is all i can say that was at least positive.

Fish tacos were alright the waitress wasn’t very happy that I was joking around with her. I’m petty sure she spit in my food… oh well she was ugly anyways.

I picked the«meh» rating because, well, I have experienced better. There is better Mexican food at Diablo right down the street. It’s not authentic Mexican food by any means, more like Tex Mex. The taco salads are alright but nothing to brag about, the chips and salsa are alright but again, nothing special. The drinks are probably the best part of the place, but when you’re drinking a margarita you would hope that the food matches the quality. It doesn’t. Maybe I’m too spoiled from Mexican restaurants in Detroit, or from Mexican restaurants in the metro area that do Mexican food right. There are just better options around.

Food lacked personality. Tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, beans, rice, sour cream… I litterally could have made this at home in my kitchen. The service was nice and very helpful, and the atmosphere was nice, but I didn’t have a genuine Mexican restaurant experience. It was mainly the very bland food. I ended up boxing up my hardly touched food and decided to throw it in the garbage. Would not reccomend.

Basing this review on delivery from Restaurant Connection. This is not a review of the delivery service — they are consistently professional and timely. We ordered dinner on a Monday because no one felt like cooking. My husband and I both got a quesadilla. His chicken and cheese was unremarkable. My spinach and chicken had no spice and was very salty. My 16 year old son liked the beef enchiladas but my 12 year old son ate none of his chicken and cheese tacos. He got the hard shells and they were stale on the top and practically disintegrated on the bottem.(I understand this is delivery but really…). We used to come here when we first moved to the area in the early 00’s. We haven’t been back since probably 2008 because we noticed the quality going down and the prices going up. There are very limited choices for Tex/Mex in the area and gave it another shot. Was not happy with the quality or price(almost $ 50 before tip and delivery.). You’d think they would have thrown in a few chips and salsa for that price. Additionally, their packaging is appalling. We threw out about a landfill worth of styrofoam. There are so many quality places in our home town. Sorry to say this is not one of them.

I just ate here earlier today and had probably one of the worst experiences. We were a larger group and were seated quickly which I was thankful for but the annoyance came soon after we placed our order. I ordered the chicken flutas and once my food arrived I snapped a picture as I always do(for my food blog). After I put my phone down I was getting ready to dig into my food only to notice a STAPLE in the center of the mound of tomatoes that garnished my meal(see attached pic). Once we got ahold of our waiter and told him he apologized profusely about that and said he’d tell the manager right away. Wether or not he told the manager is still a mystery seeing as no one came out to apologize or comp the faulty meal. Unfortunate to have a place with barely decent food with such poor customer service :/

We stopped in here today while hanging out on Main. Bad decision… The food is like something you’d buy in the freezer section, it was salty, just generic, and yes the portions were huge. No one at our table got close to finishing any of their food and no one got carryout boxes for left overs, there was a lot of food left over!, as we looked around at other tables, there was a lot of food left, and not because of the huge portions! our waitress never brought our silverware, we had to ask another server, she didn’t notice until we mentioned it to her, and that was when we finally saw her again, over all bad experience. They seem clueless to their bad service and food sucking. We left and went to Panera. 1st and last visit… The 1* is for the drinks, Wow, REALLYBAD!

OK. Nice atmosphere. Our waitress was nice. They served us A LOT of food. I mean, A LOT. Our plates were covered… The food was kind of bland though. I was a bit disappointed. I hate a steak burrito and there was just not enough flavor. A little overpriced for the quality of food. Ordered two margaritas. They were okay, but definitely weak. I wasn’t looking to get drunk, just melt away the day… Didn’t really do much for me. But the service and the atmosphere were nice.
