Great service with awesome food! My coworker and I went for lunch yesterday. We ordered the étouffée shrimp and the oyster poboy. Both were delicious.

Started my New Year’s Eve off at this hot spot. It used to be the old Gumbos… I emailed to make reservations for 4 at 7pm. Got a call from the manager stating that they could only do 6:30. No prob… Got there at 6:20… They couldn’t find our reservation and wanted to seat us out back. :( But… Saved by the bell! They had it under my last name. Hmmm ok. Got seated and our server was Lindsey. Really nice. We ordered a couple bottles of wine. Call me a snob but I like my glass to get poured and refreshed… Didn’t happen but the food was delicious… The bread and butter were my favorite! Carb happy! Everyone was happy with their food! We will definitely be back!

Loved it. Our waiter was so amazing(not to mention handsome) and was the nicest waiter I’ve ever had. We ended up staying there over an hour after closing and no one was pushing us out the door. Even so long after closing the waiter was still kind and conversational. Defiantly recommend this place.

I decided to take my staff out for a Xmas Lunch the Monday before the holiday. I picked FQG because for as long as I have been going to eat there, either at the Parmer location or this one, I always feel like its a celebration. That might have to do with the fact that I seem to only go there in celebratory fashion. Anyway, the ladies and I arrived during lunch, we were sat right away in the back room near a window. Our server(Steven?) was prompt and gave us a full description of all the off menu items. I was intrigued by the andoullie crusted Catfish so I ordered that. The girls all ordered the same main course, Catfish Etoufee. We also enjoyed an appetizer of Crawfish Bignettes. Great meal and prompt service made my Company’s First Xmas Lunch a great success. Thanks FQG!!!

I have been here several time over the year… Can’t believe I have never reviewed it. must have been in a Cajun stupor. Looking for taste of Louisiana? You should go to the French Quarter Grill. Start out with the Crawfish Beignets or the Tried Green Tomatoes or BOTH! Then get a cup of Gumbo. You don’t need a bowl because you still have an Entrée to order. There are always off the menu specials — That’s usually what i get because it always sound so damn good. You can’t go wrong with ANYTHING on this menu. Make sure you have room for the Bread Pudding… O.M.G. Don’t worry the staff won’t judge you because you ate so much. trust me on this. The staff is always very friendly and attentive.

French Quarter is extremely good cajun cuisine, and in a very nice location. I believe it used to be Gumbos, and you have to be careful, as there are 2 French Quarter locations fairly near each other — the person we were meeting for lunch went to the other. I had the chicken sandwich and chicken/sausage gumbo, and both were delicious alternatives for someone who doesn’t eat seafood. The blackened chicken pasta looked pretty good too. This would definitely be a good spot for a quiet dinner or date, and I’d definitely return.

Kudos to manager, Jere, and the chef. I brought our Meetup group here for happy hour(about 30 of us) They took a reservation, were ready for us and were completely hospitable. We had a brief blip with a server who was less than hospitable, but the management stepped in and helped – problem solved and we were very pleased The wines by the glass($ 5 for a generous pour) were good, I agree with our server, the Pinot Noir was exceptional The happy hour appies I tried and their ratings follow: Five Stars! Oysters Rockefeller($ 7.95) wow, what a deal and hand’s down the group favorite. Wonderful spinach cream sauce over a raw oyster, baked and served piping hot. But wait, each oyster ALSO came with a fried oyster on top. Perfection! Four Stars! Shrimp Cocktail(7 Shrimp $ 6.25) I wasn’t wowed by the size of the shrimp but they were perfect, Plump, crisp and so tasty. The cocktail sauce was just right! Four stars! Chicken Gumbo($ 3.50/cup) I enjoyed this, but wasn’t crazy about it – I missed the subtle vegetable flavor that usually accompanies a gumbo(green peppers? celery? okra?) but the broth was dark and definitely filet filled. The meat was plentiful, tender and tasty. Three stars! Crawfish Beignets $ 5.25−−8 or 9) This wasn’t my fave but many loved it. Very crispy and almost«light» even though fried. Filling, but I didn’t get a huge crawfish flavor from it Beautiful setting on the patio, I’ll be back!

Looking for a great place for a date night? This is it. Quaint with a great atmosphere and good food. The staff was wonderful, however there isn’t much privacy for your conversations because the seating areas are in two parts of the small building, but I loved it. The bread they bring out with that butter — incredible. So good. We ordered the fried green tomatoes with crab meat that people had recommended on Unilocal and that was delicious and I don’t even like crab meat. The portions for dinner were huge — I had the Catfish Gumbo and my husband had the special — the pieces of fish were huge. We couldn’t finish it. However, we did have them bring us bread pudding to try and wow, soo good. The only thing that made me give them a 4 out of 5 stars was the martini I ordered. It wasn’t good– they need to work on their bartender, but other than that– really good and we will be back.

DH and I came here for a nice dinner. We were not disappointed. The food was wonderful, as always. The Chicken Oscar was moist and very flavorful, would order it again in a heartbeat. The only change I would strongly suggest is to get rid of the blue white wine glasses. Blue glass does not work for wine glasses. Colored wine glasses scream«I don’t know Jack S*&t about wine». Plus, it is unappetizing as hell to drink wine that looks blue. Management, do you hear me? LOSETHEBLUEWINEGLASSES!

I like to support local family owned restaurants in my community so chose this venue for a nice Friday night dinner with a couple of my chicas. The restaurant is charming and quaint which makes for great conversation environment vs the loud chain restaurants. The waiter was very well versed in the daily specials, however, as the restaurant got busier, his attentiveness seemed to slacken which is the only reason why I did not give this a 5-Star rating. He brought out our meals but we had to wait and ask him for silverware as our food got cold. I ordered the salad with blackened salmon(you can have a salad and order ANY fish for a little extra). The portion was big and my salmon was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The best salmon to date. You can even taste a couple of wines before ordering it. Give this charming place a try and you will not be disappointed. Reservations are recommended for the weekends. A little pricey but the price matches the ambiance, the service, and the food so worth a little extra.

This is a really cute place and the food is pretty good. We ordered the crawfish beignets and fried green tomatoes for appetizers and they were both great! My first time there, I ordered the fish ponchartrain. I’m not sure what was up with it but I didn’t like it at all and barely touched it. I took the leftovers home, and I’m not sure why since I didn’t like it at the restaurant. It’s probably because I thought about how much I paid for that entrée — not cheap. I still ended up just tossing it. My husband ordered the crawfish etoufee and he didn’t like it much either. I tasted his dish and was not impressed at all. My husband and friends shared the bread pudding and the raspberry crème brûlée and they all LOVED both of them. I was beginning to think that this was a place more for appetizers and dessert than for entrees. I came back a second time with a couple girlfriends for lunch. We sat in the patio which was really nice. We were the only ones out there so I thought we were going to have horrible service since we were«out of sight» but it turned out to be ok. My friend ordered a glass of wine and it was the biggest fullest glass of wine I’ve ever seen. It was a little crazy and I think he ended up not even charging her for it. I ordered the french quarter salmon and it was better than the dishes my husband and I got the first time. Our server both times I came here were both very friendly. Not sure if I would come back here, mostly because the entrees so far have been ok at best. I gave this place 3 stars because the appetizers, desserts and service are good and because it’s such a cute place. Otherwise, I would have given it 2 stars based on the entrees.

A perfect night with great atmosphere, food & service. We sat outside(before the weather turned hot). A nice little 2 person band was playing nice music. Not too loud… just right for the place. The waiter greeted us promptly and was very educated on the wine selection. He helped us pick just the right bottle for our dinner. We ordered Oysters Rockefeller & they were perfect; a few fried oysters on top of the raw. Each of us got a fish entrée for dinner & they were both delicious. This a great place for a romantic outing. The building has history, the staff was friendly and familiar with the menu and the food was outstanding. I’m continuing to recommend this place to anyone looking for a special night out.

I don’t know if more could have gone wrong on our first visit here… but it all worked out in the end. When we got there, we decided to eat on the patio in order to get happy hour. We ended up having a brief wait. No big deal! We then got seated where we decided what we wanted. Then we waited, and waited. Finally the guy that seated us asked us if we had been waited on. We ordered a a couple of drinks on happy hour and an appetizer(escargot). The escargot was really good, but I was bummed that it didn’t come with bread. We ended up using the bread that they brought to the table with their delicious butter, even though I don’t think that was what it was intended for. The bread was just normal bread, but the butter is something to brag about. I want them to sell it! After our appetizer, we waited and waited for our entrees. Finally our waitress comes and kindly informs us that our entrees were taken to another table where they were eaten off of! Sucked but was amusing. We eventually got our entrees and they were really good. My husband decided he liked my stuffed catfish that he started eating off my plate… not cool! Loved the veggies that came with it… a great addition since it is no longer Gumbos. Otherwise, very similar to Gumbo’s but overall better food(minus the bread).

Delicious food; excellent service. We started with a huge crabcake appetizer that was so yummy and full of lump crab meat, then had the red fish panchatrain and pecan trout for our entrees. OMG — so delicious and such generous helpings. We have enough for lunch tomorrow. And of course, we had to top it off with a key lime crème brûlée. Deliciously sinful. We’ve been to the location on Parmer and 35 in Austin, and they are just as awesome!

Coming from Wisconsin, I really needed a Cajun food fix. Visiting family in Austin, TX was as close as I’d get to the French Quarter anytime soon, so French Quarter Grille was my next stop. Boy, did I treat my taste buds! For an appetizer, we ordered the Crawfish beignets. A savory beignet that was a perfect twist to the usual sugar powdered beignets. For an entrée, I ordered the Fish Pontchartrain. You have a selection of salmon, rainbow trout and mahi mahi. Being originally from Northern California, Rainbow Trout was the optimal choice. This was topped with a light creamy mushroom sauce with shrimp and crawfish. I chose the dirty rice and sautéed cabbage as sides. Absolutely delicious! For dessert, to top it off, I ordered the Croissant Bread Pudding with caramel rum sauce a la mode. Hands down… This was the best bread pudding I’ve ever had! On a side note, the French Quarter Grillle had a great romantic atmosphere. The service was delightful and attentive.

We shared a bowl of crawfish etoufe, a cup of shrimp gumbo, and the fried green tomatoes topped with crab salad. Everything was really tasty, best etoufe i’ve had in a while, the service was first rate.

The problem with following a place like Gumbo’s is that you have big shoes to fill. In all the years I had eaten at Gumbo’s I’d never had a bad meal, matter of fact all were fantastic. I wanted to say the same thing about French Quarter SOBAD! But I can’t. Here is the run down… 1.) The hostess did not provide a kind greeting and even though there were only two tables seated I had to ask«do you have room for a table for two». Awkward! Why can’t there be a friendly greeting of «Welcome, will there be two of you this evening». Should I really have to ask to be seated? 2.)The waitstaff had to check with management twice to see if she could do certain things from the menu. Seems like a training issue, waitstaff should be able to(and be empowered to) answer all customer questions. 3.) Ordered the pan sauteed tilapia. It was virtually inedible. The taste was so fishy it was gross. Must have been old. I did not eat but three bites of it before I pushed it away and that felt like too many. :( 4.) My mom got the Shrimp, Crawfish, and Andouille Pasta and it just wasn’t fantastic, we both commented that the pasta we get at the pasta bar at Whole Foods was much better, and for less! We both left feeling like we were glad we tried the place but that we ourselves would not be back and we would not recommend it to others. We both remarked that we would have rather gone to Jack Allen’s Kitchen for sure. Which makes me sad, because I’m all about local places! So it makes my heart sad to say this was no bueno. Waaaah!

A belated post from a visit in mid-October: I had worked here when it was Gumbo’s and have always had a soft spot for the location! I also LOVED French Quarter Grille in Austin, with the FQ Salmon being my absolute fave. So, it should come as no surprise that, when I recently visited Austin, this place was on my MUSTGO list! When I walked in, I was welcomed by a newly refurbished interior, complete with faux French Quarter balconies and a brighter space than I remembered! The place has definitely been spiffed up — and in a warm, inviting way! We had a large group of approximately 25 or so guests and were seated on the lovely patio area, which is so lovely! Twinkling lights, set atop the hill, flagstone patio, nice music in the background. Our server, Christina, was awesome, as was the General Manager, Jere, who also rolled up his sleeves and made sure we received only the best service! We were treated as VIPs and were greatful for them doing so! We ordered escargot to start with, as well as Fried Green Tomatoes topped with crab. That, my friends, is a mouthful of awesomeness! We paired these with Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay and it was off the hook delicious! Then, the piece de resistance — French Quarter Salmon! Baby, I’ve been waiting for you! Baked salmon wrapped in proscuitto, served over a balsamic reduction, topped with a homemade roasted pecan pesto, chopped tomatoes and lump crab meat. I think I just drooled on my keyboard! The vegetable of the day was cabbage and, let me tell you, if you ever go there and they are offering cabbage — get it! Even if you don’t like cabbage, you’ll LIKE cabbage! I opted for two helpings of veggies instead of a veg and a starch, and I was glad I did — not that the starches are bad, but the cabbage… From the ambiance to the service and, of course, the food — our experience was tremendous and unforgettable! Being born and raised in New Orleans, I can tell you, it just doesn’t get any more authentic than this — unless you could install a raw oyster bar and have the lingering smell of urine in the background :) Bön Appetit, Unilocalers!

Humm it was all right totally not worth the time and $$ spent. Parking is scarce and you have to cross some rattalie railroad tracks followed by a steep driveway on a slanted hill. Upon finding parking there is a banner with the name through the door with the lantern seemed like an exit as we entered we got stared down by this fat host with red hair. She looked up set or mad as we entered through the door so I asked is this the entrance? And she replied yes! I was perplexed at her expression and tone because her response should have been welcome, how may I assist you or something of that nature. So that started off on a bad note. We were sat at a table against the wall near the restrooms the restaurant was ice cold and all the tables seemed too cluttered together. From entrance to seating it was uninviting, the waiter was nice went through all the specials and substitutions and fish and vegetable of the day which was to be honest a lot to take in lol. I ordered the Shrimp, Crawfish and Andouille pasta it had sausage overlooked shrimp and craw fish the pasta was cooked perfect, sauce was alright however I was not too impressed as this could be something you can get at a lower end restaurant. It was a tremendous order, I didn’t finish it cause it was so much. We had the special appetizer which was deep fried green tomatoes top with crab(it seemed a lot of their menu items was topped with crab) when I took a bite of the deep fried tomato the whole tomato came out leaving behind the crab and breading, it was weird bitter and soggy just not a nice texture. I will give you this though the dirty rice and beans were great! We were brought a desert menu and the bread pudding as advertised on Unilocal is not on there, so when we ordered just that it seemed to tick of the waiter as he rolled his eyes when he turned around and I could see his expression from the big mirror near our table. The bread pudding tasted was as hard as firm tofu, and not worth the calories. As we paid the waiter had brought us back the wrong credit card(scary) it was an honest mistake as he ran back to correct it. When we left the host seemed to be cleaning being productive but nothing else was said to us as we left I had to say to myself out loud«goodnight thanks for coming please come again» well this is a place I wouldn’t like to visit again.
