I must admit from the start of this review that I haven’t actually been to this business. The reason why is simple: I’m a wheelchair user and this business is inaccessible to me. I received a gift card to Turn of the Corkscrew as a Christmas present. I called them shortly thereafter to make sure they were wheelchair accessible. I was told they were planning on building a ramp once the weather improved. I called them again last month and there still isn’t a ramp or a concrete plan to build one. I was disappointed but the person that gave me the card was under the impression that it could be used online. This isn’t the case. They did offer to complete my transaction(s) over the phone but that would greatly change my browsing experience. As any bookworm knows browsing is half the fun. Kudos to the folks behind Turn of the Corkscrew for a great concept. Unfortunately, that’s all it will remain for me and others like me as long as it remains inaccessible to wheelchair users.

I just celebrated my company’s 3rd birthday in Turn of the Corkscrew and it could not have been better. The venue alone is so unique and special that guests were immediately impressed. Plus Peggy and Carol went above and beyond to put out delicious snacks, great wine and a social atmosphere. There was plenty of food and drinks for everyone and more then enough space for 60 people to walk around and enjoy. The best part was, I had no stress planning the event because they took care of the food, drinks, venue and music. I highly recommend this venue for all occasions.

Very unique and special place. Great selection of books in a super cute setting. PLUS beer on tap and very nice selection of wine. A bunch of really cool book reading and special events coming up. These folks are doing it right, creating a great local place to read… and drink!

Great idea on paper, but neither bookstore, nor bar are up to snuff. Book(and wine) selection leaves much to be desired. Food looks like it was bought from vending machine a few days ago. Instead of allowing patrons to sit among books, bar is relegated to the back room which has zero ambiance. You can sit at a bar or at a narrow desk attached to the wall — no space to read a book or browse the internet while sipping wine. Any Starbucks is a much more welcoming place. I wondered in and was the only customer in the store, but barmen, and store clerk barely paid any attention to me. Without a change in ambience and atmosphere, the place won’t stay open for long.

Set in a charming old house, this«bar & books» arrangement offers so much to the community and the owners Peggy & Carol make you feel like one of the family without being overbearing. BOOKS: latest best sellers, fiction, non fiction, self help, cookbooks, travel books, kids books… you name it, they’ve got it, OR they’ll order it for you — just ask! BAR: in the back is a cozy bar setup offering DELICIOUS wines(not the boxed crap, trust me — they take their wines seriously here!), craft beer, Brooklyn Brew coffee, pastries and savory snacks. GIFTS: quirky little notecards/seasonal cards, literary themed t-shirts & totes, candles made in wine bottles with AMAZING smells, and assorted cool stuff like a wood-handled bottle opener, etc. EVENTS: book clubs, paint nights, guest speakers, book signings… you name it! These ladies took their B&N expertise and have created what everyone wants and RVC is lucky enough to have… «The Shop Around The Corner» BOTTOMLINE: Go!!!

I love books, so it’s always wonderful to see another indie bookstore, especially when it’s so close. TURNOFTHECORKSCREW will be the second bookstore I’ve been to in RVC and truly hope that they do better than the previous. There are a few unique aspects to TURNOFTHECORKSCREW. The first thing you’ll notice is that they’re in a house. A bit odd, but it does seem to work. Each room in the house is the setting for a different selection of books. You’ll find a children’s book room, a fiction room, a non-fiction room, etc. In the back, you’ll find a small bar, another unique quirk. I cannot say I’ve been to a bookstore that sold alcoholic beverages, and now I don’t want to go to one that doesn’t. The bar in the back is rather small, as is most of the store. It serves wine and beer. I think the prices are a little high, but you’re not coming here for the discounts; if you come here, it’s almost exclusively to support what they’re trying to do. Downstairs is a very nice event space which looks like it could hold about 20 – 30 people. From what I’ve been told, they’ll be hosting several book clubs and other events. I think that’s great! Their grand opening today was fabulous! I left with several books, and a couple of other unique items that I’ll be wrapping up for holiday presents. Again, I absolutely love what the ladies are doing with the store and truly hope they are able to stay in business, but do feel like they’ve got a tough time ahead of them. The bookstore is small, which means selection will be limited. Today’s economy has led people to value immediate gratification and I’m worried if someone walks in wanting a book that isn’t stocked, they might not want to wait for it to arrive via the store special ordering it. Hopefully, the fact that they’re the only game in town for books will help and hopefully the community seeing the value of having a place like TURNOFTHECORKSCREW open will be enough to keep them in business for many years to come.

A new book store opening in 2015? Talk about a sight for sore eyes. Run by a team of retail and book store alums this place really has everything a modern book store should be. Grabbing a glass of wine from the wine bar in the back and perusing the stacks was an encouraged and highly enjoyable experience. The staff was so friendly and helpful that it really felt like a throwback to a time before big box and online dominated the retail space and the staff of a store was just as important to the experience as the goods themselves. The one complaint, if you can call it a complaint, is that their limited space means they definitely err on the side of more recent popular books in the various genres with the occasional classic in the mix. I’m a fan of this place. My recommendation is to come early, grab a class of wine and just browse the stakes till something catches your eye.

This place is brilliant in its inception. It’s a bookstore set in a 19th century home. You feel like you’re in an old friend’s house, and instead of the usual furniture, there are bookshelves everywhere. And… You can order a glass of wine, or a cup of coffee and a snack, and then sit in a comfy chair and read. They also host book-group meetings and parties. The owners are absolutely wonderful. So thrilled to see the return of the independent bookstore, and this one is very special.

What an adorable place! I just found out about Turn of the Corkscrew yesterday and I went to check them out today. I found the proprietor to be very friendly and the book selection well curated. I can’t wait to go back for one of the events! Books and drinking — two of my favorite things in one place 10 minutes from home!

Wine. Craft beer. Light fare. Books. A cozy setting. A fireplace. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. And did I mention, wine and beer? A terrific new addition to Rockville Centre – an independent book store! Came in last night – kids being read to at a storytime while Dad savored a beer; customers browsing the multiple rooms of books; and friends sitting at the back bar talking. A wonderful place to spend some time – and how great is it we don’t have to head to the mall for a gift, or click away for a book? The owners have lots of plans(only open a couple of weeks) – this is certain to become a South Shore mainstay.

So I moved to Long Island not to long ago and I’m always on the hunt for cool unique spots. This place definitely fits the bill. Beautiful, cozy and inviting. This place is simply amazing. Great and delicious selection of Long Island wines. Plenty of wonderful books to choose from. Check them out and fall in love.

What a wonderful place to visit! After dinner out in RVC we went over to Turn of the Corkscrew. The store is beautifully designed to be comfortable and welcoming. You can browse the books or other merchandise(the wine scented candles are to die for!) or enjoy a glass of wine at the bar in the back. There’s also coffee and snacks for the non-drinkers. This is a welcomed addition to the area. If you’re getting together with a friend for dinner and want somewhere quiet and cosy to hang out at afterward, this is your spot!

This place is great! My husband and I took the kids last night for Pajama Storytime. While they listened to stories we enjoyed a glass of wine and beer at Happy Hour. They have a great selection of beer and wine, as well as a nice food menu. We got the goat cheese with rasberry jam on crackers. So yummy! The walls are lined with so many great titles for both adults and kids. We all left with a new book.

Love this place! A cozy, beautiful bookstore with a wine bar, craft beer and snacks like cheese, hummus, etc. They also have book signings, storytime for the kids and other events. Ooh! And a fireplace! Great date spot!
