Drove by the restaurant and the front of the restaurant is still boarded up with wood from where a car went through it over a year ago. Place is disgusting. An eyesore for rvc and health hazard inside

We just returned from a christening party held here. We had a crew of wild running toddlers in tow. They have a room filled with toys for the kids! What?! Yes. Not only that but that staff is so nice and tolerant of kids. Never once were we made uncomfortable because of the shoe less balloon wielding maniac we call a son. Thank you! It’s so hard to go anywhere with toddlers, so thank you again and again.

I read some reviews, plus a friend suggested eating here! 2 Mar ’16. Parking under LIRR after 6 pm free. Nice pub. Clean, nicely decorated, approx 20 – 25 tables. I called first, not full. Nice bar on right as you enter, tables in back or around to the left. Very friendly staff. I took 2 photos of their menu. Not cheap, but not expensive. Great selection of beer. I had Shepherds Pie(very hot temperature!), delicious. Bread came with meal. Guinness on draft $ 6.50! St Paddy’s day décor all over. Owners from Ireland. I will be Back! & you should go check it out!

Dirty tap beer and a ridiculously rude and accusatory staff from the moment I walked in? No thanks! I won’t be back here ever. There are many other welcoming establishments in rvc.

After craving something hardy all day, me and my boy ended up at this great little tavern. The Shepard’s pie was like something from an Irish grandmas kitchen, with all fresh ingredients! My chicken pot pie was delicious and plentiful, giving me leftovers for lunch I’m very much looking forward to. The staff was warm and attentive, and Kathleen(one of the owners) made sure every patron felt welcomed.

Watch out for the hotshot snob behind the bar. I was there casually dining and watched her rip off some people there to play in a dart league. Guy bought a ton of beers and shots and the snarky bartender replied«buy backs are a privilege not a right.» While I understand, not all bars buy back drinks, to tell a customer that they are not«privileged» enough to have a free drink, but other people who enter the bar are«privileged» is a discriminatory comment. As I continued to eat, I watched her not charge some guests and only charge others. Now, I manage a restaurant myself and NEVER would I allow any of my employees to pick and choose who gets a free drink or not… Free drinks are given to all types of customers, and usually dependent on the # of drinks a person has bought. The girl was on a power trip and unless u are of the«privileged» caliber I would never recommend coming here for a casual drink with friends… Her sticky fingers will rip u off.

OK so 3 stars is really not what I usually rate but when customer service isn’t up to par, it ruins everything. I’ve been coming here for years to watch football and it’s been great. Food is awesome! People awesome! However, lately it has been very awkward and annoying. Ive never had a prob with a bartender as I’m very easy going but the bartender Barry has been very dismissive and seems to avoid everyone… he’s not friendly and he stays at the end of the bar making it hard to order a drink… And then when u do its like ur bothering him… The girl bartender is awesome but seems to be more of waitress to restaurant than bar… monaghans please fix this… Love ur bar but u need staff that wants to be there and serve… Otherwise it’s pointless to be a bartender. I know bc I am a bartender. Oh and the $ 2 Miller tap wasn’t working so I was charged full price for replacement… not good customer service

Relaxed local Irish bar by the train station in RVC. Nothing fancy, just a true Irish bar and grill. The food here is better than what you would get at most bar and grills. I had the chicken pot pie which is over flowing with a big puff pastry crust. To me, it was too much puff pastry and not enough chicken and veggies(but judging by the reviews I’d say I am in the minority). The service was a little slow but friendly. Overall I think the place was good and would go back to try the shepherd’s pie.

I had a gluten free burger and fries! Omg was it great! The fact I found an Irish pub who said I have a Celiac Menu is amazing! One of the ownwers has Celiac. The workers are sweethearts.

A friend took me there for my birthday. Salmon was good… Steak tid bits were aweful. I’m a vegetarian so didn’t have any. But I watched my friend chew and chew with dismay. They were full of grizzle and extremely tough to eat,’ very disappointed. He broughttj them home for his dog!

I can’t believe that this place has recieived so many positive reviews. Yes, the bartenders and the owner do have an Irish brogue but don’t let that fool you. The bartenders are extremely slow and extremely inattentive. It took us forever to get a drink at the bar. When we finally got our table, we placed our drink orders 3 times before she got the order correct. The steak tidbits that came to our table finally arrived, it was a pile of steak with melted cheese on 1 slice of potato bread. When I told the waitress that it was unacceptable, she became extremely confrontational. Next, the owner Niles appeared at the table and he to was extremely combative. It was extremely uncomfortable and wrong. At this establishment it’s their way or the highway! Awful experience and extremely unprofessional. I would not recommend this place ! Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Monaghan’s is a fantastic Irish Bar Restaurant. The food is amazing, the service is impeccable. The whole staff goes out of their way to please you. The Bar is happening, especially on the weekend. Thanks to the owner for coming out and asking how my Wife and I are doing. We have been there many times throughout the years because it truly is a wonderful place.

Everything about this place is amazing! I’ve been here more times then I can count and have had a variety of foods from the menu, and not once has it been a let down! I’m not one for trying new things, but here I know everything is cooked to perfection. The specials they run are great, and the portions are huge, I’ve always had to take some home.

This place is the best. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff – owners Niall and Kathleen treat you like family! And the food is so so good! Try the hot wings, seafood chowder, burgers, chicken au pouive, St. Peter’s fish or the roast Long Island duck and definitely order chocolate saucy cake for dessert! I’ve had parties in the restaurant and catered from them off site and everyone always loves Monaghans!

Good, solid place to spend an evening. The food is good, not great, but quite satisfying nonetheless. We had reservations for a Saturday night, and the four of us were seated immediately. Salads were good, the onion soup just passable. The entrees were tasty. I had the duck, which was done quite nicely, with a crispy skin. My wife had the chicken pot pie, which had an amazing crust. This is something you have to try, it’s fantastic. The staff was very attentive, but never made us feel rushed. We were seated in a very private room, called a snug, and if made us feel like we were in our own private space. Give it a shot. It’s one of RVC gems, not simply some trendy place like others in the area.

Foods not bad… but the mashed potatoes were VERYVERY dry and tasted like instant. But other than that, everything was very good. My husband got the Ribeye which he ordered rare. It came out black and blue, which doesn’t really bother us. I got the Shepard’ s Pie, which is what I get when ever I go to an Irish Restaurant/Pub, it wasn’t the best I ever had, but it was good. Bridget was an amazing waitress. Definitely took made this place a 4 star instead of a 3 star. Try the leapin’ leprechaun after your meal.

After a bad day of work, sometimes you just want, no, NEED, gluttonous bar food. I NEEDED wings and fries, but I didn’t want them to be bad. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by Monaghan’s since it is so close to the train station. Inside you will see an average Irish pub with basic Irish fare. My boyfriend and I split: Wings(not the best wings I’ve had, but they were good) Ribs(a little tough, but the honey/soy sauce it was covered with was delicious) Rueben Sandwich(a little greasy but otherwise tasty) It was very empty the whole time we were there, which was kind of nice. The waitress was very friendly. So far my favorite spot for bar food in the area. Not crowded with a million people getting crappy 10 cent wings at certain other bars(who shall remain nameless).

What a great place! Monaghan’s food was fantabulous! Especially my wife’s Chicken Pot Pie, which I will flat out say was the BEST Chicken Pot Pie I have ever tasted. My Shepherds Pie came pretty close and was almost as good. Dessert was Pecan Pie… yeah another Pie… mmmmm warm sweet nutty… yummy. Our waitress was professional and helpful when we had questions. Soda bread was delicious. I love the layout with the bar separated from the restaurant. Décor is elegant, tasteful and simple. My only question was WHY was it not more crowded? We got in and seated instantly on a saturday night at 8:30pm. Maybe its the laid back atmosphere… maybe its the location. maybe its a combination of things. Crowded or not this place was worth every penny. Wonderful experience and we will return again!

Came here because we got a gift certificate from our friends. It was a pleasant surprise to get parking right in front, we were happily greeted by the staff and our meal was pretty impressive. The French onion soup was yummy, so was the fried Brie(a great alternative to mozz sticks). The fish and chips were delicious and the Ruben was buttery and tasty. My husband says, «wow even the soda tastes nice and syrupy unlike most pubs who water it down». The complementary Irish soda bread was a treat as well. We were super stuffed and very happy!

Luckily for this review I have experienced BOTH the bar and restaurant portion of Monaghan’s. I stopped in for supper before a night of dancing and gallivanting the Saturday after St. Patrick’s Day, which is referred to as IRISHFEST in RVC. Apparently, the drinking while dressed in green carries over another weekend, and I heard from a bar patron that this weekend is celebrated almost MORE than the holiday itself! All that to say, Monaghan’s on this visit was packed with men in green striped rugby shirts or tweed caps and wool sweaters, and women with shamrock necklaces or green fingernail polish(that one was me…) My friend and I were greeted by the floor manager who took us right away to a table, and took our drink orders. Everyone else was drinking at the bar, so seating wasn’t an issue. The dining area is spacious and completely separate from the bar area and the tables can sit up to 8 I believe, so it’s great for big groups. On the website, you can check out their menu which includes gluten-free entrée’s, a Senior menu that includes a soup and dessert, and a pretty impressive vegetarian fare menu. I ordered a bottle of Magner’s and fish and chips, which came with a side of steamed green beans. The food was a great portion and was pretty good. My friend ordered Shepherd’s Pie and she enjoyed it enough to roll her eyes back and shake her head in disbelief to confirm so. Monaghan’s has two entrances — one off the street, and another from the back parking lot leading from the RVC train station. So parking won’t be an issue. The crowd — no under-age shenanigans, sloppy public drunkenness, body shots, or strobe lights. Not that sort of place. This is a casual, warm, friendly, spot that’s clean, where people in their 20’s and 50’s can mingle without an issue, isn’t over-crowded or loud, and has the most cool and down to earth owner. I would recommend this spot to catch a few beers and the game(they have 3 or 4 flat screen tv’s overhead), catch up with a couple friends after work, or stop in for a drink after having dinner in the area. Nothing flashy or expensive. Cozy and familiar… just how a local bar should be.*
