Needed a replacement set of hiking shoes in a hurry … went down to Walkabout Outfitters and came away with a solid replacement. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and even recommended some good places for lunch.

I am a big fan of this store. I have actually only ever been to the location at Valley View; however, I can imagine that I will love the other locations as much as the VV one. This is an independently owned store that carries the outdoorsy type things that I always need. They carry PrAna, Patagonia, Horny Toad, Toms, Nat Geo trail maps and more. Join their mailing list!

I love Walkabout Outfitters! Great independent outdoor store with a location in Downtown Lexington too.

LOVETHISPLACE — they have all the basics for hiking, camping and general outdoorsiness. Today I went by and found the coolest little woven change purse– who would have thought it? They have a nice selection of tevas and crocs(on sale now :) and they even have North Face gear and Life Is Good brand items. Lots of fun stuff to look at. Great location. I love the fact that they have dog hiking accessories too– last summer I bought my dog an awesome hiking pack there. The store staff helped us find a good fit and he loves it(or I should say, he doesn’t even notice he’s wearing it). He carries his own food for overnight camping trips. They also have gear and clothing for children. A fun place to go, something for everyone.

A well-chosen selection of outdoor sportswear and assorted gear and accessories. It’s no REI, but it’s worth a visit.

After searching high and low, throughout the Roanoke Valley, for a specific North Face fleece, I had almost given up hope. My family and I had ventured downtown to enjoy some quaint shopping and a non-chain lunch. We popped inside this former feed and seed shop(love that the store maintains the character and architecture of the original space) and noticed all the outdoor apparel. Yay, I may be in luck! Yes, I am. They not only have the North Face I had been searching frantically for … they have it in the color, size, and it cost less than all of the other retailers. Jackpot! My piece of advice — Avoid the rush and lines of waiting at the mall and make a trip to Historic City Market for your Outdoor Apparel needs.
