A bit disappointed with the food at this place. Ordered two chicken gyros that I received slightly undercooked, cold, and very plain, ended up throwing them out after the first bite. They definitely need to reevaluate their recipe for poor tasting food and cooking skills for undercooking the simplest ingredient to cook. Worst 15 $ I ever spent

The place looks like a deli but with very welcoming staff make you feel like you visiting a family for a dinner, they make sure you can try this delicious food and I am sure anyone would love it! Mix grill and appetizers are very good, little bit not enough spiced out but I am sure everyone can adjust, and for sure try their baklava is to die for!

I love this place. Everything on the menu is very reasonably priced and the portions are generous. I really enjoyed the eggplant moussaka and the hummus. I also really love the rice pudding.

I’ve walked by a couple of times thinking I should order from this place one day. Well, that day has come. I wish it had been sooner. My friends and I were ordered in and let me tell you the food was spectacular!!! We ordered: falafel, koushery, Egyptian eggplant, Egyptian grand platter, chicken kebab, Egypt salad and for dessert, baklava and basbusa. Everything was so freaking good! The baklava is made in the restaurant and so is the basbusa! Everything is made with really good fresh ingredients and we were all pleasantly surprised! Thank you little Egypt!

The family that runs this place is very kind and they make good food. Good example, some guy walked right up to my girlfriend and I while we were there, and tried to sell us bootlegged DVDs, the owner very kindly asked him to leave. Later he brought free desserts and hummus, on the house. Food was tasty and delicious. Five stars for service alone. The food was satiating and fresh. Would come here again but we were just visiting from out of town.

This place is pretty great. I ordered takeout for three people on a Saturday. One thing we ate was the hot stuffed grape leaves. I’d never had them like this before and they were really delicious. I visited Egypt and remember liking the ubiquitous koshary, so I was excited to order it. It’s a yummy dish, and pretty inexpensive. It’s mostly starch — rice, pasta, chick peas — with a little ground meat, but here’s a tanginess to it that I really liked. The lamb kebabs were pretty good, too, although the meat was a little tough. The chicken kebab was very tender and tasty. The desserts were fantastic. Some of the best baklava I’ve had, and I loved the basbusa — it’s very sweet and syrupy. I wasn’t that happy with the hummus. It was very salty. The pita bread was not that great, either. I prefer the fluffy, pocket kind, but this was more like Greek style pita(sorry, Greek people). The owner, Nash, is super friendly, and made me feel very welcome there. He totally brightened my evening!

Little Egypt is a jewel in small storefront. Hospitable owner who makes the food himself. The food is authentic and delicious. The beef kabob and kofta are out of this world. Everything is out of this world. I can’t say enough good things. Besides offering delicious food(that you can eat there or take home) they also have middle eastern products. It’s my new favorite place to eat if I take out! The spices are no way similar to Greek food. Sure the cuisine may be similar but the spices are very different.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. First the restaurant is more like someone’s home than a froufrou restaurant which starts the great experience. My husband and I began with a grape leaf appetizer which was awesome and very plentiful! They also bring you complimentary hummus, which is some of the best I’ve ever had. My lamb kabob was very tender and tasty! The owner even let us try a traditional Egyptian dessert which I tried so hard to eat because it was so good but after having so much food before it was quite tough. The family who runs this restaurant is fantastic. The woman who served us, possibly one of the owners, was so nice. The service was above and beyond and that’s coming from a southerner. This place will definitely get my business, frequently!

This place is a total score. Do not be thrown by the humble storefront! What this place lacks in flashy signage, it makes up for tenfold with delicious FRESH food and gracious service. My boyfriend and I ordered 6 dishes in one shot on our first visit and could not stop saying how good everything was. Major plus: nothing is overpriced and the portions are generous. Will definitely be back.

Great Food AND Great service. Such a homey vibe to the place. Authentic Egyptian food that did not disappoint. The owners were super nice and attentive. My sister and I ordered the Kofta and Chicken Kebabs which were amazing! We even were given a sample of their homemade hummus and rice pudding. Definitely coming back again! thanks!

I’m not familiar with Egyptian cuisine, but the menu looked similar to Greek food.(I hope I’m not offending anyone with the comparison.) I’ve walked by this florescent-lit store/restaurant many times before stepping in. Not the most appealing exterior. I thought it was a deli of some sort. Aesthetics aside, I like this place! Walking in for the first time, I was greeted warmly. Letting them know it was my first time, they suggested the Grand Egyptian Platter. I was actually planning on ordering a platter or sampler of some sort, so they read my mind! While I waited, they brought me a small sampler of their desserts to try since it was my first time there. Let me tell you… I’m not huge on desserts, but everything was delicious! I tried to hold back and save dessert for later, but I just kept nibbling it down. Couldn’t help it! I thoroughly enjoyed my entrée too. Three types of kebabs and each one was well-seasoned and cooked just right: slightly charred and still moist. The rice was bomb! It’s a bit pricier than what I would pay for, say… Greek food, but it was a huge, weighty platter. I could easily split this up into two or three meals.

Amazing is honestly an understatement! I don’t know which was better, the food or the service. A great mom and pop shop. The servings felt unfair to the price !(in a good way :))

The most important thing first: the food was awesome. Every dish we had was fresh, flavorful and delicious and we will certainly be going back for more. On top of that the woman who owns it and helped us was so friendly and even gave us samples of 2 different dishes we didn’t order while we waited along with a thing of free baklava! So the food is incredible, the people who own it are super nice and friendly — just don’t let the look of the place be a turn off. It’s not all that nice looking and isn’t really a restaurant, although it does have some tables so you can eat in if you want. I really hope that the look of Little Egypt does not deter people from eating here or hinder their business because both the people and food are absolutely wonderful.

I just moved to Ridgewood and have been trying all the local restaurants. So far, this place is my favorite, it’s such a gem! I am SURE I will be going here a lot: it was so good, so much food, and it’s run by the nicest people. My friend and I went and just asked the woman to give us whatever was good, so we ended up with tons of food, but it was still incredibly cheap. We had the Egyptian platter(grilled meats with rice and salad and sauces, all delicious), and hummus, babaganoush, fried eggplant, and stuffed grape leaves(also all ridiculously good) and the Egyptian version of mac and cheese which was good also, but really the stand outs were the meats in the platter, the dips and the stuffed grape leaves, which they make themselves there. We had three(THREE) to go boxes of food leftovers(including the dessert they gave us on the house) and we paid $ 25 each, including tip. I will be back 1000% for the great food and lovely people that work there. Getting take out here is so much healthier and tastier than greasy chinese or pizza, and just as affordable. Go here!

The BF and I made this well-kept secret(but perhaps not for long!) the site of our dinner destination last night, and boy, oh boy, did we ever make the right decision! We had walked by this place a few times in the past, only to peer in through the windows briefly and continue walking. Maybe it was the wet, cold and rainy weather last night that made us change our minds, but we finally went here for what looks to be the first of many hearty meals to come. We ultimately decided on two falafel sandwiches(UGH, SOYUMMEH!) for the two of us and added a kushari, rice pudding and baklava to share. First things first, the falafel at Little Egypt is to die for. I would gladly commute an hour and a half each way just to eat this establishment’s falafel! Yet this gem of an eatery(it’s quite casual and informal as it’s a spacious grocery store equipped with a kitchen and populated with several tables and chairs) just happens to be a stone’s throw away from our house — yay! The falafel balls have the most interesting — and downright delicious — texture: perfectly crunchy and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s cooked with the right amount of oil so it’s never overly greasy. Every bite is an explosion of a unique contrast of textures and flavor in the mouth. It’s complemented by lettuce and cucumber and tucked in a fresh, soft wrap. Do note that the size of Little Egypt’s falafel sandwich isn’t particularly large or oversized by any stretch of the imagination, but at $ 3.50 each, you’re getting a ridiculously good deal. And that just means you have a really good excuse to order more items off the menu. :) So, yes, we did just that. BF and I ate for a family of four last evening. I had a food baby growing by the time I reached home and could not remember the last time I had stuffed myself so silly. :3 In between our falafel, we also had a delightful plate of kushari. Omg. Unlike the falafel sandwich, which in truth is sized perfectly for the price, the kushari here at Little Egypt is insanely big! It arrived piping hot and looked so inviting and full of flavor. This dish is basically macaroni, rice and lentils mixed together and topped off in a bath of tomato sauce. Excuse me again while I exclaim, «OMG!» It’s good ol’ comfort food that makes your taste buds do cartwheels. We were so full that we had to take the remaining half to go. Let me tell you, the kushari is even better as a leftover lunch for work the next day because all the zesty seasonings and flavors have had an additional 18 hours to marinate in their takeout container. Mind. Blown. Tongue. Overjoyed. Last but not least was dessert, which was rice pudding and baklava. I’ll be frank — I was not overly keen on the rice pudding as I found the rice to be a bit hard and chewy and I much prefer my rice so soft and moist that it practically dissolves in the mouth. My BF loved it, though, but he does like his rice tougher. The baklava, on the other hand, was simply out of this world. I don’t recall being a particularly big fan of baklava all along but after the one I had here, I just might be newly converted! It is the most delicate and happy balance of flaky, soft and mildly sweet. The raisins placed on top(which can also be found on the rice pudding) are incredible as well. We suspect the chef/owner soaks the raisins in a magic secret potion of amazingness. They are certainly not your average raisin experience. In conclusion, we surely believe we will be back, and very soon at that. :D The quality of the food is absolutely divine — thoughtfully cooked, seasoned and overflowing with zesty flavor. The prices are equally excellent. It’s definitely affordable especially compared to a typical NYC dining experience elsewhere. The service is flawless, given that the chef/owner himself tends to you on hand and foot. He is extremely kind, attentive and responsive. And generous with portion sizes! It’s only a matter of time before all of Ridgewood catches on to this godsend — we’re thrilled to see its arrival to the neighborhood and we really hope it sticks around.

What a wonderful first experience at Little Egypt this evening! I stopped in after work with my husband. I’m pregnant and was really craving some Kebabs. First off, just walking in, we were greeted by the family who operates this restaurant. They were so warm, that although we had planned to take out, we decided to sit and stay. I am so happy that we did! We ordered the Grand Egyptian Platter(Mixed grilled shish kebab, chicken kebab, and kofta, served with salad and rice or fries… we chose rice). Incredibly generous serving — more than enough for the both of us(priced at $ 15.99)! Everything tasted so fresh — perfectly seasoned and cooked. In addition to that, we also ordered the Macaroni Bechamet(macaroni baked in creamy sauce with ground beef and marinara) — it was delicious — similar to a lasagna! We also shared this. It was a generous serving as well, especially for such a fair price(just $ 3.50). The cook seemed so pleased that we were(literally) moaning over the food with every bite. He brought over two types of home made hummus for us to sample as well. Each one was terrific. We wrapped up with some Egyptian style Baclava(I’m officially obsessed), and Egyptian tea(loose leaves /mint). When we were leaving, he made a few recommendations of what he’d like to cook for us the next time we visit, and he even showed us some of the ingredients he would use. I was so happy — it was like visiting with an old friend. He sent us on our way with a rice pudding(insisting it would be good for my baby). All in all — this place rocks! I really hope they stick around for a long time. I’ll be in here regularly! I can’t wait to sample everything on their menu. I’m a sucker for authentic cuisine and terrific customer service. This small local spot has it all.
