Chevron SUCKS!!! It is the major cause in asthma in our community !!! Sure they employ the community. that would’ve preposterous if they didn’t. But the damage they do with the pollution and fires going on without us knowing. Their explosions visibly seen from our backyards yet they say it is not harmful. Yes it has been here forever but it doesn’t mean it should stay. Chevron hurts our communities’ health.

Boon or bust? Holding up Richmond city, this 2900 acre petroleum refinery opens its doors to the community today for annual event. More to come… Very very intriguing and informative tour. Pascha, design engineer, lucky me to have the fortune of sitting in your Black Tie limo bus and absorbing all that you know about your employer. a :50 fully bus tour, one winds his way from South Yard(non-landfill) to North Yard(landfilled land), learning about the fascinating Long wharf transfer of the crude from the ships docked out in the bay. Absolutely no rail and no pipeline. Ingenious. 240,000 barrels are processed daily here, making Chevron Pt Richmond a downstream operation, and not upstream. Def not the money maker for the company. 70% of the water is recycled and treated, released back into the San Pablo Bay, and subject to rigors imposed by the EPA. ie a 96 hour test. The August 2012 fire was broached, owing to sulfur laden pipes in the Distilllation and Reforming area(DNR). In continuous operation 24/7, it was here where the carbon steel piping, coated with silica, iron, etc components reacted with sulfur. Now in-line tests are in place for monitoring. Chevron uses crude slate, a medium light type of crude in order to convert it. The hydrgoen treaters or reactors use gaseous hydrogen as a raw material. They too were an interesting sight. The Modernization Project is in full halt(a way to replace hydrogen in South IsoMax) since 2009, caught in the net of litigation. The entire area looks like a ghost town. Learned a bit why CA grade fuel costs more $ than say, Texas fuel. Chevron TECHRON… held clandestine like an ancient Chinese secret. Nobody knows anything more about that… huge money maker. Lunch was sponsored by Up and Under Pub in the Point, with cheeseburgers, salad, potato salad, potato chips, cookies, and AYCE melted kiddie-size candy bars! Cool beans
