I went ten minutes prior to the close of business and the door was locked. I made contact with the girl behind the counter and she clearly ignored me and left me standing. A customer was kind enough to open the door for me. There were two girls behind the counter that were very rude and had an attitude. I understand that it’s the end of the day and they want to wrap up but that’s not an excuse for the horrible treatment. The ice cream was good but the service ruined it.

I will never buy ice cream from a grocery store again unless Bev’s closes. This place is the real deal Holyfield! The orange sherbet is outstanding– the milk to fruit ratio is perfect. Yet another Cary Street gem.

Very delicious and tasty ice cream. Cute environment with soft and soothing music. Great place to chill and talk. Could be a good place for a date. Very reasonable price

Have you ever had a sundae here? If not, do yourself a favor and get one immediately! The hot fudge and whipped cream are both homemade and delicious. After dinner, or seeing a movie at the Byrd, I can’t help but migrate to Bev’s. The flavors are always unique and delicious!

Three words: Black Raspberry Espresso. You will thank me later. I am very indecisive when it comes to choosing a frozen treat flavor or a dessert choice. I asked one of the employees there what they recommended and she responded immediately with Black Raspberry Espresso. These two flavor combinations worked very well with each other and the sweet espresso balanced out the semi tartness of the raspberry and was very creamy and tasty. Like our lovely CM, Lauri T, mentioned, this place has very little decorations or flashy furnishings and is very simple so they can focus more on their ice cream offerings. I sampled several flavors but decided to trust the employee there. They also have a small selection of cookies, brownies, sundaes, and even milk shakes here if you aren’t in the mood for ice cream. There’s a decent amount of indoor seating and several lawn type chairs out front to people watch and enjoy your ice cream as well. The prices here were very reasonable considering they are in Carytown and homemade. I am not a big ice cream fan but I would definitely go here for my next craving. SN: there are also free cups of water!

Bev’s has some good homemade ice cream. The texture of their ice cream is really creamy and rich and it doesn’t melt quickly, which is great for walking around Carytown on a hot day. Their fruit flavors are very subtle and sweet and pair well with the chocolatey flavors so you can mix and match just about any of their flavors. I also love their seasonal flavors.(Pumpkin ice cream? Yes please!) I eat ice cream here even though I’m lactose intolerant — and trust me, it works on that intolerance swiftly and humiliatingly — but it’s worth it! Definitely a good option if you’re in the mood for ice cream or have a sweet tooth to satisfy.

The best ice cream place I’ve been to hands down! The ice cream is freshly churned and it doesn’t melt as fast as other ice creams I’ve also had. The flavors are so heightened that every scoop is delightful! I’d come back any day.

Cute homemade ice cream spot in Carytown. They have a limited selection of flavors and nothing particularly unique like homemade shops sometimes do, but I loved the cookies and cream flavor so I gave them 4⁄5 stars for that reason.

Was showing my brother and a friend around Carytown and we stopped in for some ice cream. In all my years in Richmond, I had actually never been to Bev’s! The selection is pretty good and the prices not bad. I thought the ice cream was good, but I’m not really a huge ice cream person, so who knows. Cute little shop.

Bev’s is my favorite ice cream place in town. Definitely recommend the Oreo espresso ice cream, and they have a featured flavor that changes from time to time, which is always super fun. Enjoy!

This place was just aight. My wife and I came here later after a date night in order to get some«homemade» ice cream. Let me preface this: I come from Massachusetts and she comes from Wisconsin. Both states have amazing dairy and ice cream, so when we see«homemade,» we assume we are going to get creamy, rich, devilishly good ice cream. Since moving to VA6 years ago, I’ve come to understand that the definition and standards here are much different. That being said, I waited in line for 25 minutes on a Saturday night to get an overpriced small portion of average ice cream. The two workers were ok but obviously stressed and overwhelmed by the sea of people flocking in. The ice cream also didn’t really have any flavor or combination that had that«Wow!» factor. Rather, it was the generic flavors(no cookie dough?!) you expect without the«homemade» flavor profile you crave. The location is great, the service is fine, and this place will do if you’re just trying to find an excuse to go out for ice cream. In the meantime, I’ll wait until I’m back north to indulge. My waistline doesn’t need the extra inches anyways.

When they say homemade, they really mean it… the chocolate chips are your grocery store chips. That chocolate is formulated differently — melty at hot temperatures. The chips in my raspberry chip were like little unenjoyable pebbles. Not of a huge fan of the air in the ice cream either — I prefer less air and more intense flavors(which Bev’s was lacking). I tried quite a few of their flavors but it was so meh. Go next door to Chop Suey Books instead!

Stopped here rather than Gelati Celesti simply because it was less of a detour, but weren’t too disappointed. Really tame ginger special and a mediocre black raspberry, but a solid espresso oreo. Bev’s Brownie $ 6.05 Split $ 6.55 Subtotal $ 12.60 State(5.3%) $ 0.67 Local(6%) $ 0.76 Total $ 14.03

What was I thinking, in my first post only giving four stars? This place is one of the staples of the Carytown neighborhood. Lines are out the door at peak times, but that’s because it’s so popular — not because they’re slow.(Although milkshakes do slow them down a teeny bit). I have to say my favorite is still the Nutella gelato… but I’d say equal tot hat is actually their Honey ice cream. Typically when they post that they have it that particular day, I will walk right over and order a quart for the rest of the week … and a regular size to eat when I get home. It’s sweet, but not overly sweet. My third favorite ice cream is the Heath.

I just love ice cream… but oh boy! Bev’s just takes it to the next level. First off, homemade? Done. Sold! Second of all, they have a bunch of unique flavor a that I just gleed with joy! So this time around, I orders the avocado and blueberry ice cream. The worker there said the avocado is a bit more subtle so it pairs well with other flavors… and he was write! I always appreciate it when the workers are knowledgeable of their products :) A def must go if you are in the area or have a sweet tooth!

Bev’s was the perfect treat on a warm spring day. They share the lobby area with a nail salon so choose the door on the right. Place isn’t much to look at but there are some seats if you choose to dine in with your treat. Staff was friendly, most young tattooed women enjoying their lives. All were friendly and helpful with my slow to order friends. They have a variety of treats, ice cream, sorbet and gelato. I went with a strawberry on a sugar cone. Ice cream was rich and creamy and quite flavorful. All in all I great place to grab a sweet treat as the temperature rises.

Bev’s is the best ice cream in Richmond! The service is always friendly and helpful and their ice cream is authentically delicious with nothing artificial. I always mean to try their creative specialty flavors but more often than not I go with espresso oreo — sooo good. Strawberry, vanilla, and their limited-time lemon flavors are all excellent. A must for dessert in Carytown!

Bev’s is a little ice cream parlor with a good selection of ice cream flavors to choose from. They even have non-traditional flavors that change depending on the day. Based on the reviews, I decided to order espresso Oreo. Being a hardcore coffee and Oreo ice cream lover, I had very high expectations. I had it in a waffle cone with two heaping scoops of ice cream. I don’t know what it was, but it was just average. Good, but just average.

Dang… your strawberry lemonade sorbet is the definition of refreshing. I’m also really in love with the espresso with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Otherwise known as an «affogato.» It’s not on the menu, but they’ll make it for you easy peasy. The espresso mixed with the vanilla creamy goodness is perfection. They also have the best chilled water available for that ice cream thirst. Does anyone know why eating ice cream makes you feel like it just sucked all of the hydration out of you?! If you’re in carytown craving that ice cream fix, this type of «homemade» is what I“m all about. Perfect amount of sweetness! I can not wait to try the raspberry chip next time!

5 Stars. Hands down. I could just drop the mic right now and be done with this review. This ice cream is so good you just have to try it for yourself. I don’t know who Bev is, but I could kiss her right now. The shop is very small with very little embellishment. Not too many frills. It’s all business here, folks! Everything is homemade down to the hot fudge and whipped cream. The girl who helped me out today was uh-may-zing. I wish I had gotten her name so I could give her a more personal shoutout. There was a *ahem* rather difficult group in front of me and I noticed that she handled that with so much grace. I was grateful that when she got to me, there was nobody behind me so I could take my time deciding on some ice cream. She allowed me to taste a few flavors and somehow we ended up talking about musicals and hail? Well anyway, the black raspberry and white chocolate ice cream blew my mind so I had to have that flavor. Duh. But I also wanted to try the good old fashioned vanilla too because that’s how I judge how good an ice cream shop is! The vanilla passed the test with flying colors. Delish. That mixed with the black raspberry and white chocolate plus m&ms, hot fudge, and whipped cream made for an orgasmic sundae. The fact that I didn’t get to enjoy it like I wanted to because I got a flat tire once I left the shop is a different(unfortunate!) story. Ah well. This will become a staple in my post-Byrd Theatre routine.
