My favorite Japanese lunch place in Dallas. I usually get their Lunch Special($ 7) that includes a bento box with chicken teriyaki, tiny salad, 4 pcs tuna roll, 4 pcs tempura, a bowl of miso soup, and rice. And they don’t charge for hot green tea!(it’s at least $ 2 at most other places) The tempura is always perfectly light and crisp. The weakest part of the combo is the chicken teriyaki, which is usually small and sometimes overdone. But hey, I’m only here for the tempura, so the chicken is just an afterthought for me. They’ve recently started opening for lunch at 11am(30 min earlier), which definitely helps spread out the lunch rush!

What a lucky find. We were out looking for something easy and close to home, and we’d never been there. A year and a half later, I have no idea how many times we’ve been back. Everything I’ve had is delicious. The pork kakuni, on the nights it’s available, is amazing. Seaweed salad, something I get at every sushi bar, is one of the best I’ve ever had. Masami roll is my favorite but all the sushi is fresh. My boyfriend loves the katsudon, tonkatsu and the buta shogayaki. The agedashi soba is incredible too, worth the slightly longer wait. Fave desserts are for sure the black sesame flan followed by daifuku and sakura mochi. I love that it’s a small and intimate place, but never feels too crowded even when it’s super busy. I feel like the people who dine there are also loyal customers. The service is great, the presentation is gorgeous and the prices are also very reasonable. Being from L.A. where sushi is absolutely everywhere, I will say this is easily one of the top ten best sushi restaurants I’ve ever eaten at.

I’ve been to a lot of sushi places in Dallas, and this is by far my favorite. The owner is awesome! He’s so nice, and always good for an interesting conversation. I’ve been going to this place for almost fifteen years now, since before the current owner, and it’s only gotten better. The fish is always very fresh, and presentation beautiful. The regular entrees are delicious, too! Seriously, this place has pretty much ruined me for other sushi restaurants. I can’t say enough good things.

I used to like this place. Services are always good. But today I took my friend with me to eat there. She broken half of her tooth while eating Tonkatsu Dinner which a part of it is much harder then other parts. She has good teeth and was shocked when this happened. We told the owner all this and want to see if there’s away to solve it. Not letting us finish, he just shouted at us that his pork has no problem and all this happened just because my friends’ teeth are too week. He even said we may just fake this for many. No sorry and even no sympathies showed at all. We came in the restaurant happily but left with feeling badly offend. I know that nothing can be concluded before my friend checking her teeth with dentist, but the disrespect and arrogant attitude by the owner makes me feeling sad.

Delicious!!! This is the authentic sushi restaurant I’ve been looking in the metroplex. Great service. Fresh sushi. Wide variety on the menu, and plenty of beer and sake options. The salmon was super fresh and soft. The rice was perfectly cooked. I’m bringing my out of town friends here as my show and tell place. Masami has it right.

Love this place when I just stepped in. It is not the big and fancy restaurant, but the atmosphere makes me relax just like home. I ordered the Sushi Moriawase, it tasted great and was a lot of food. However I can’t finished it all so I take some pieces to go. I will recommend this place as a place you want to have a nice time with you friend or family, take your time drinking and eating. The chefs are all very nice. And thank you very much for the food and great time last night, Takeshi-San.Will definitely coming back and want to try the lunch also.

I live close by and I’d seen this place for years, so I decided to finally try it. I did not come away disappointed! Their food is very fresh and their customer service was great. We had the heart attack roll, darkish roll, a couple scallop hand rolls, and the karaage. The fish was fresh and the rolls were tasty, especially the darvish. The karaage was kind of bland and just average in my opinion, but overall the meal was good. I’ll definitely be coming back to this place!

This place is a hidden gem! Me and my boyfriend came here on a Friday night and it was a bad idea going without a reservation. Its a small authentic Japanese restaurant. The wait was about 25 – 30 minutes but I’m sure it would’ve been worse if we had a bigger party! We ordered a couple hand rolls and special rolls. The darvish roll is my favorite and is made up of sea urchin, scallops and salmon. Sea urchin is one of my favorite seafood and I think its so brilliant to make it into a sushi roll! It was delicious, creamy and inexpensive. We also ordered heart attack roll. It was good but way too spicy! Their hand rolls are delicious! Scallop hand roll really stood out and the scallop chucks are huge and fresh! I will definitely order it again! They have some off menu items on the board but we didn’t get the chance to order any of them. Overall, great customer service, huge selection and yummy sushi! Very affordable compared to sushi sake and some other sushi restaurants! Good for dates or with friends!

Very traditional… nothing flashy as far as atmosphere goes. But the sashimi is fresh & they have lots of yummy roll selections. Sit at the bar & chat with the chefs, they are very accommodating & good at what they do. It is in a random shopping center but there is always parking. I will keep it on the list.

Quaint and authentic feeling sushi joint. Waiter was underwhelming, although friendly. Fried flounder was more akin to fried shoe leather. Rainbow roll was good. Everything was fresh. Had a couple unique items on the chalkboard. I would definitely go back, but just with a tad lower expectations.

Yummy! This will probably become my work sushi place. The fish is fresh, portions are large, prices are good, service is friendly and fast and the place is so cute! I had the salmon roll and it was 8 pieces. Big pieces of fish, perfectly ripe avocado. I also had the house special #2, which was a spicy roll with a lot of flavored and texture going on. It was also very good. Didn’t really care for the miso soup, there was some ingredient in there that I have never had before and didn’t like. Might come back for drinks. They have stuff I have never seen before like sparkling plum wine.

I was disappointed. Let’s start out by saying that service was excellent but food was not up to standard. I ordered«buta no shoga yaki» but it was nothing more than pork chop drenched in apple ginger dressing. My understanding of buta-no-shouga-yaki is, pork should’ve been thinly sliced and sauce should taste like ginger and soysauce. But wait, there’s more. Rice that came with my dinner was dry as if it sat in bottom of the rice cooker in «warm» mode for at least 3 days. Miso soup tasted like powder kind(they just added hot water) and served it to me as if they made the soup.

Good hidden Japanese restaurant with great food! The masami dynamite clam dish is very interesting… I will stick with the sushi next time. The soup served in a teapot is outstanding! Definitely coming back. Good wait staff.

When I think of Richardson TX I hardly expect it to be a food mecca yet there are quite a few hidden gems in this unassuming town. To say that Masami was extraordinary still doesn’t do it justice. With sushi chefs hailing straight from Okanawa and Osaka the authenticity of each dish is inspiring. Each morsel, more delectable than the last, will leave you wanting more. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered lots of different things but what stood out most was the flounder. I had never seen flounder on a sushi menu and was very curious. A simple piece of fish sitting on a bed of rice will melt in your mouth like butter. Do yourself a favor and order the flounder, your tastebuds will thank me.

Decent rolls served up fresh makes Masami a solid choice for sushi in the Dallas area. Located on the end of a strip mall it may be easy to overlook the place, but once you walk in(and are greeted by the door-operated welcome sign!) there’s no mistaking the fact that you’ve stumbled into a quaint, cozy restaurant that strives to deliver authentic food in an authentic atmosphere. I went on a recent business trip to Dallas and was accompanied by two of my co-workers. After a long day and long drive from San Antonio, we opted to avoid the floor cushion seating and went with the more standard cushioned benches. It would have been nice to have seat backs to lean back on, but it wasn’t a big deal as we spent most the time crouched forward eating roll after roll of sushi goodness. In addition to the regular menu and sushi sheet, they have a ton of menu items hand-written on boards that cover the back wall. We settled on a number or rolls, the most notable being the following: Masami Roll — Basic California topped with shrimp and avocado. Very good. Louisiana Roll — Spicy crawfish. Fantastic! We should have ordered two. Jalapeño Roll — Grilled albacore with jalapenos. Very light and tasty, with good balance. Taiki — Fresh salmon, jalapeño, cucmber, green onions — Probably one of my favorite rolls here. The Darvish Roll — Salmon, sea urchin, scallops, topped with jalapenos — YES!!! Our waiter noticed that we were gravitating towards the more spicy rolls, so he heartily recommended the Tear Roll. The Tear Roll. Now, I’m not sure if this is a legitimate roll that regular people order and enjoy, or if it’s just a cruel joke on the menu. I guess we should have been clued in by the name. It’s called the TEARROLL. We probably should’ve read the description. But we threw caution to the wind, ordered it, and all bit into our pieces at the same time. That’s when we realized our mistake. You see, if we would’ve read the description, or taken heed of the roll’s moniker, we would have known that the roll consists almost solely, of rice, wasabi root, and cucumber. Wasabi Root. This is a whole roll whose main ingredient is wasabi. Our sinuses kicked into fourth gear as tears started flowing down our cheeks, all to the glee of our waiter who laughed and clapped along with our suffering. We shared a laugh over it as well. Definitely a memorable experience. After killing two platters of rolls, we finished with desert. I ordered the Sakura Mochi, which I found to be a big disappointment. A single mochi ball, sliced in half and dressed up with a seasoned cherry blossom leaf. Filled with red bean filling, it was below average. My co-workers went with the tempura cheesecake and the tempura ice cream — huge and decadent, they provided just the right sugar kick to wake us all back up after a filling meal. The sushi was good, not great. The service was attentive and friendly. There may be better choices in the area, but we left content, satisfied, and with a good story about their famed Tear Roll. Enjoy!

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to masami. The insides are so cute! There are separate rooms(no doors) where you can sit and get a more authentic feel. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive even during almost closing hours. they hand you several menus so there’s tons of options. There were a couple chefs behind the sushi bar– the people they were speaking to were clearly regulars. Very friendly sushi chefs! RICEBALLS: I tried the salmon as well as grilled rice ball. And I didn’t like either of them. The rice itself just didn’t sit well with me in either try, and they fell apart after the first bite. Was a little too dry FISH: F R E S H. You can tell by the color and the taste– I love sashimi and the salmon/tuna I got was perfect. Fresh fish is the most important thing in a sushi restaurant and they nailed that See ya soon for the fish! Extra props to the dynamite! I loved it. Perfect amount of sauce ratio to rice, and the ingredients make it even better! If you’re ever picking between Sushi Sake and Masami, pick Masami because they’re considerate and not rude to their customers!

4.5* [Atmosphere: 5] When you first walk into Masami, you’ll be greeted with one of those Asian cats with one paw up and a moving«Welcome 2 Masami» banner. Please keep in mind that Masami is pretty small but cozy — so don’t expect a large waiting area. There’s also a semi-private room with a traditional Japanese table and floor seating that probably can be reserved for private parties; unfortunately, there’s only one of those tables. Not only is the restaurant is small, but the staff is as well. At the back of the restaurant, you’ll find an adorable, bald sushi chef hard at work crafting each sushi order; he looks exactly like a *true* sushi chef — the kind you see in movies. So the wait will be a bit long but so worth it! Tip: Their *secret* menu with all their specials are on the back wall. Don’t be fooled and overwhelmed by their many menus. [Service: 4.5] Our server was nice and super patient with us even though we were a big party of 10+ people. I can only imagine how tedious it must have been to take our orders, deal with our birthday desserts and split our checks so kudos to him for being an awesome server that night! [Food: 4.5] Darvish sushi: As suggested by all of Unilocal, please get this if you haven’t tried it yet. The darvish roll is probably the most popular roll there and is made up of scallops, urchin(!!) and topped with slightly seared salmon and jalapeños(so it’s slightly spicy). It’s pretty creamy and rich, but the jalapenos give it a nice kick! House special #2: A white tuna roll with tempura bits. I really liked this roll as well! Salmon rice ball: Your typical sushi rice ball wrapped with seawood and stuff with salmon. Delicious as always. Miso soup: Flavorful with bits of tofu and seaweed. Served in a small bowl and was on the pricier side compared to other restaurants(approx. $ 2.50 per bowl). Green tea cheesecake: I’ve recently joined the matcha madness so I love this cheesecake! It was rich with a mild matcha flavor and served over condensed milk. Overall, Masami is a cute, little sushi joint that offers a great selection of entrees, sushi rolls and dessert.

The first time I had Masami, I got the Chirashi to go. Sashimi was fresh, rice was flavorful, and they had freshly grated wasabi! 2nd time I went for dinner. Super friendly service [but they didn’t give freshly grated wasabi :(] Chefs special– sweet shrimp and scallops in uni sauce on tempura nori was AMAZING! I was sad it only came with 4 pieces though! They didn’t have it available the first time I went, I had to ask for it the 2nd time since it’s off the menu. They had to ask the chef if they can make it, they said yes but it would take a long time. It was the last to come out. Rainbow roll-typical Rainbow roll, but good ratio of everything, not heavy on the rice and rolls were cut to the right width Flying fish roe– add a Quail egg! Yumm House special roll #2– good flavors but wish there was more fatty white tuna Niku dofu– too sweet and salty, ask for a bowl of rice. Wish it came with more greens Green Tea cheesecake– not too sweet and served with fresh strawberries, small slice but it was a good portion to me cause I was so full!

Hands down the best sushi– they have a huge menu. The sushi is fresh– a true Japanese sushi restaurant. Try the baked Masami Dynamite. The sushi just melts in your mouth.
