Kolberg’s Barber Salon

I visited this barber because Lilian’s was temporarily closed. The barber seems like a nice guy, but my experience was a little aggravating. It’s possible he and I just got off on the wrong foot, but it doesn’t excuse everything. At one point he said he would cut my hair to the length that he thought would be best, rather than what I asked, adding that if I wanted it shorter he would be alright doing that. I went along with it, but after more than half an hour, I was out of patience. He spent most of the time snipping hairs in the back while giving the front less than ¹⁄₁₀^th of the attention. He actually left it pretty uneven. When he handed me the mirror to check myself out, I pointed out parts in the front that still needed work, and he responded «I saw that before you did.» … Really? I was left wondering if he would have bothered if I hadn’t said anything.
There were other parts of the experience that were also awkward. The first story he told me was about a death in his family from alcohol abuse. I appreciate a dose of reality from people, but nothing afterward cleared the air. The rest isn’t worth getting into.

Horrible initial customer service. I am in shock.
I called to possibly make an appointment and simply asked what’s included in the haircut (shampoo, straight razor, etc?). First off, his tone made me fell like I was bothering him when I asked him a simple question. He said he used to do razor neck shave’s but doesn’t do that anymore, then he rudely said, Alright Bye. He didn’t even give me a chance to finish what I was saying. If he treated me this way over the phone, I imagine it would be worse in person. Ridiculous.

Pete’s a great barber and person. He’s truly skilled and will cut you hair properly so even when it grows longer, it looks great. He’s great to talk to and has some very interesting stories (not the typical macho man talk, but really fascinating). My work schedule prevents me from going to him regularly but probably the best barber I’ve ever had.
He only does appointments (which I prefer), so call ahead.

Pete is THE MAN! He did my beard and hair and did it WELL. I would highly recommend him, but know up front you are putting in a bit of a time investment, but nothing good comes quick!

Pete is without question the best barber I have ever had. He has 50 years of experience to prove it. He does a great job and is a good and truly genuine guy. He will always have lots of interesting stories for you as well. The man has lived a full and diversified life!

You won’t get a better haircut anywhere. Just a good old time barber shop! What’s more, Kolberg has a fascinating life history he’ll gladly share with you. From growing up in Wisconsin and going to school on an Indian Reservation to mushing dogs in Alaska. Fascinating story after story. Enjoy!
