Not sure about the other reviews, but my total checkin time was under 5 minutes. Their breakfast had biscuits gravy sausage eggs potatoes cold cereals, a waffle maker. basically all the stuff you normally find. It is a small town Best Western. Employees were very nice and the room was fine. Mine actually smelled like cinnamon sticks. I had a hilarious suite with a stuffed animal moosehead on the wall. See my picture. Overall, it was cheap, clean and got the job done. That’s what I was looking for. Free internet was key as my Sprint phone did not work inside my room. Only complaint was the AC/heater was loud. It’s older and they could probably be upgraded to newer models that aren’t so loud.

I have to hand it to this place. They are trying to upgrade themselves, and provide a better product. They are painting, fixing up, and trying to change things in a positive way. But, they ought to tell people when they are. I guess it’s not good for business because people might shy away from construction, but patrons really need to know that the smell of paint will be in the air, and that the indoor/outdoor pool is closed for repairs. It’s OK. The paint didn’t bother us that much, and we probably wouldn’t have used the pool anyway. After all that, it was a very adequate hotel experience, especially for the price. We just stayed the one night, and it only cost us around $ 90, including tax! That’s pretty rare these days. So, about the room. I liked that we could park so close to our room, but the hotel made two mistakes rigth off the bat. For one, we booked this room a long time in advance, and specifically asked not to be on the ground floor. We don’t like to hear the people stomping around above our heads. Nonetheless, we were put on the ground floor. I hate it when we book months in advance, and the place can’t get it right. My wife also requested extra pillows, and we didn’t get those, either. As it turns out, my wife was right about the bottom floor. Even though it was closer to the car, we did have to endure what sounded like jumping jacks coming from the room directly above us. We were not pleased. The room did come with continental breakfast, and, as expected, it was pretty«ho-hum.» They had the usual, except that other places usually have sausage and scrambled eggs. This place just had the biscuits and gravy in addition to the usual cold cereal, instant cereal, toast, and waffles. That’s OK by us. We don’t eat the eggs, sausage or biscuits and gravy anyway. To their plus, they did have almod milk, and they did have yogurt. The breakfast appeals mostly to Minnesota tastes, and is about what you’d expect. The room was decent sized, but there was really nothing special about it. It was probably just what a person would expect to find in a town on the outskirts of a small, rural, Minnesota town like Red Wing. And, as I said, the price was great. It was perfectly satisfactory for what we needed it for, and that is a place to spend one night in.

Whatever your expectations are, lower them. I heard a lot of complaints in the hotel from other guests because they expected it to be like the Best Westerns in the city. But it really is a small town motel. It’s an ok hotel. Location-wise, it’s not close to anything other than a Perkins. It’s difficult to find(if you’re southbound on the highway) due to the construction and the sign being so far back off the road. If you have a Sprint phone, you will have no coverage inside the hotel and just one bar outside of it. SERVICE: The staff works very slowly. It takes 20 minutes to check in and 15 to check out. The staff doesn’t seem very well trained on their booking software, the front desk gal told me they often delete reservations from the website and re-do them once the customer gets there because they don’t understand the website reservations. She advised to always call to reserve, not use the website. While there is a staff person on the clock at all times, they are difficult to find if you need something. They don’t answer the phone or come to the desk when you press the buzzer. When you do talk to them, they are very polite and friendly. When I checked out before breakfast was served, she offered to let me in anyway for a bagel. «Room service» means they give you the number for Domino’s. ROOM: It was clean. I stayed for three nights, and each day, the cleaning service left it looking new-customer ready with new towels, new bedding, and even a sanitized remote control. It smelled musty in my room. The AC works if you give it time. It took about an hour after turning it on to reach a comfortable temperature, but it stayed that way all week. The bed was hard as a rock. I like firm beds usually, but this bed had no give at all. The pillows were fluffy, down-alternative pillows. The walls are paper-thin. If someone coughs or talks or farts in the next room or the hallway, you can hear it. Each room has a mini-fridge and a microwave.(The lowest time setting on the microwave is 2 minutes, weirdly.) The fridge was cold and the microwave worked fast. You get free wifi in the rooms, and you have to enter your password on their website every time you disconnect and come back. The wifi is not fast enough to consistently stream video, but it’s ok for light web browsing. There are dispensers on the wall in the bathroom for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion. Mine were empty all three days. Good thing I brought my own toiletries. HOTEL: There are several doors leading to hallways around the outside of the building, but only the front door works. The breakfast is about what you’d expect for a free breakfast, but it varies based on who’s working that morning. The dinette is just a rehabbed room, and it’s very cramped, blasting the news on a TV. My coworkers ate the eggs and gravy and both felt sick afterward. I stuck to the bagels and felt fine. VERDICT: I will choose another option in Red Wing next time if I can, even if just for a chance at a better bed. But it’s not a terrible place to stay, as long as you keep your standards at «it’s clean».

Hotel rooms were fine. Clean at least, nice sized bathroom. They had dispensers attached to the walls for shampoo, conditioner etc… I liked that compared to the little bottles so there’s not all that garbage in the world. The staff was adequate, but not extremely bright when I had a question or two. The pool was fine, but not great for our 4 year old as the only place under 3 feet deep was the inside steps to the pool. We stayed here for the indoor/outdoor pool, but ended up skimming bugs off the top of the pool before and during each use. Then in the morning had to skim a frog out of the pool. I’d try another hotel with a pool in the area before returning to the Best Western. The free breakfast was the same as all hotels offer. Nothing awful, nothing delightful.

I neglected to book a 1st floor room for my 88 yr old Dad and no other was available. But, before we had a chance to get luggage out of the car, the manager was there in the parking lot to say the next arrival had a 1st floor room and was willing to change with us. I appreciated his concern for Dad’s comfort. Room was very nicely appointed and appeared to be recently renovated. I liked the soap/lotion dispensers vs. small bars of soap. Would definitely stay here again
